updating to .net 3.5 framework on win 2008 r2 web (64)

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

I've been trying to install the update to get my system up to .net 3.5 sp1 framework with out success. What I get on running the setup is a message that I need to use role management but I'm unable to figure out how to do that and my searches on msdn have been fruitless.

Accroding to the system services list .net 2.0 is installed. Starting it (or stopping it) doesn't seem to make a difference. I've searched down the "roles" entry in the server manager but I don't see how to make this update.

Call me stupid but what I need is a straight forawrd step by step way to get this framework installed and working.

SQL Server 2008 - Installation Woe - .NET Framework 3.5 SP1

On a Windows 2003 R2 x64 server, I have been unable to install SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition x64. When running setup.exe, I almost instantaneously receive the following Microsoft SQL Server Setup error:"Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installation has failed.SQL Server 2008 Setup requires .NET Framework to be installed."What does not make sense is that I successfully downloaded .NET Framework 3.5 from the Microsoft download site (published 8/11/2008) prior to the SQL Server 2008 installation attempt.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7&displaylang=enI do need to note that a few nights ago, prior to downloading the framework (3.5 SP1), I ran the SQL Server 2008 setup executable. I was prompted that in order to install SQL Server 2008, the setup program needed to first install .NET 3.5 SP1 and Windows Installer 4.5. I let the .NET 3.5 SP1 install run for about 1.5 to 2 hours and cancelled (now I wish I had just let it go).It is my understanding (correct me if I am wrong) that the SQL Server 2008 setup program initially checks for any pre-RTM versions of .NET 3.5 SP1 Framework. If one is found, it is then supposed to guide the user through both the installation of the .NET 3.5 SP1 Framework and Windows Installer 4.5. I have removed .NET 3.5 SP1 Framework (Add/Remove programs) and rebooted. However, upon runni

Connection to Exchange Server of .NET 1.1 Framework application on Windows 2008 64-bit

I am running Visual Studio 2003 .NET Framework 1.1 application on Windows 2008 64-bit machine. There is only one problem - connection to Exchange Server. The same application is running fine on Windows 7 64-bit machine (not server). I tried to use the same Interop.MAPI.dll I used for Windows 7, but it doesn't work for Windows 2008.   Please help.

SQL server 2008 compact editioin + Entity Framework: Can we backup the SQL server compact edition da

our application uses the SQL server 2008 compact edition and entity framework. The application will control the instrument. It may run for several days before it stops. In order to protect the database crash (database failure), we plan to backup SQL compact database during running. Can we backup or duplicate the ~.sdf when application is running? Is there any SQL server command we can call inside the application to achive the backup? Or we only can backup the database when application is not running. thx!

Referencing framework 4 assemblies from Visual Studio 2008

Hi all,

I read a lot about Visual Studio 2008 and framework 4, and I have understood that it is not possible compiling framework 4 with Visual Studio 2008. By the way, I cannot find a definitive answer to a sibling question: it is possible, within a Visual Studio 2008 project (say 3.5), to reference a framework 4 assembly?

Trying to do so, I get the following error

[...] This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded.

thanks

Can not establish a connection to SQL Server 2008 R2 via Visual Studio 2010 Framework 4.0

Hello All, I would appreciate any help with this.

I believe my problem exists within the web.config which already had code in it to connect to SQL Server Express 2008.

I uninstalled the SQL Server Express that came with Visual Studio 2010.

I installed SQL Server 2010 R2 Developer, and I'm able to connect via Management Studio and through Visual Studio's Server Explorer's Data Connections I am connected.

I did run aspnet_regsql.exe within the 4.0 folder in order to create the database with Microsoft Service Providers.

Here is the ServerName: USER-5529234649

Here is the name of the DataBase:  StepByStepChapter9

Here is the name of the Connection within Visual Studio's Server Explorer's Data Connections:  user-5529234649.StepByStepChapter9.dbo

Here is the code I changed in the web.config:

<configuration>
  <connectionStrings>
      <!--<add name="ApplicationServices"
            connectionString="data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated   Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|\aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true"
            providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />-->
      <add name="ApplicationServices" connectionString="data source=user-5529234649\Step

on windows 2008 Ent SP2 (non R2), install SQL2008 sp1, will be .net framework 4.0 works?

I used the windows update downloaded and install all suggested updates, the .net framework 4 installed too, since sql 2008 sp1 requires .net framework3.5sp1, but .net4 is newer, I assume it is ok? can someone confirm thanks.

Failed to install .Net Framework 3.5 SP1 on windows server 2008 SP1(x64)

I followed instruction http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/netfxsetup/thread/6c8d4d98-b6cd-4702-bc90-d048ca31a7b2 to install the collect the log files. I checked other posts for similar problem, but seems none of them are exactly the same.

I uploaded the log files and winver to http://cid-a74010283a9fb544.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public?uc=2

Inserting and updating 2 tables in sql server 2008 from 2 worksheets in Excel

This excel sheet gets updated daily, I am wiriting a console app( which will later be a batch build). I know we can do this using ado.net or LINQ, I am a little new to database based programming ..so any help is more appreciated. I have already tried googling but colud not find the perfect solution.

Updating sql express 2008 database table from an XML file.

I'll start off with the usual caveats.. new to the forum, new to programming, not a programmer by trade..just a dabbler

A little background..

I run a hockey pool for me and a few friends. I currently use Excel to produce everything. Every week I download a csv file from a stats reseller, update my pool, then run some macros to create web pages and upload those to my site. It works alright but I want to take my pool/site to the next level. So I decided to do a new site using ASP.NET and sql express.

My plan is to download an XML file from the same reseller and update my "Player" table every week with the "new" stats.

I used a Dataset, SqlDataAdapter, and the XML file from the reseller to populate my "Player" table in the beginning. It was pretty slick, pretty easy. My problem is I can't seem to figure out how to update my "Player" table with my new stats.

First I tried using the same Dataset/SqlAdapter but it threw a Primary Key exception, saying I couldn't insert that ID because it was already existing in the table. I can fill my dataset from the "Player" table change things and save it back to the "Player" table..but that's not what I want to do.

Updating the AJAX Control Toolkit from VS 2005 to either VS 2008 or VS 2010

At work we've got a ASP.NET app written using VS 2005.  At the time I downloaded and installed the AJAX Control Toolkit from off of this website.  We've been using it ever since, in that website.

Now I'd like to upgrade that website to either VS 2008 or VS 2010, but I'm concerned about the AJAX Control Toolkit.  If memory serves, I think that it came with VS 2008, and I would assume it certainly is a part of VS 2010.  Do I have to remove any reference to the AJAX Control Toolkit, before trying to upgrade it?  Or after upgrading it?  How do I make it reference the AJAX Control Toolkit that's a part of VS 2008/VS 2010?

Utilizing Entity Framework 4.0 in MOSS 2007 with Visual Studio 2008

Hey

I am trying to create a webpart using VSeWSS 1.3 in VS 2008 and utilize Entity Framework 4.0 .

I am able to do it in .NET 3.5 but i am unable to create a 4.0 solution in VS 2008 to replicate steps for 4.0 .

Can this be done, if yes then how?

Your help will be really appreciated.

Reports referencing .NET Framework 4.0 fail to upload to SSRS 2008

We are running SSRS 2008 on a 64-bit Windows Server 2008 SP2

When attempting to deploy a report containing a reference to a .NET Framework 4.0 assembly via the Report Manager, we get an error.

For example, when deploying a report referencing System.Xml, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089, we get the following error:

Error while loading code module: ‘System.Xml, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089’. Details: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Xml, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. (rsErrorLoadingCodeModule)

The same report deploys correctly in a development environment (Windows 7 64-bit, SSRS 2008).

The Win2k8 server has .NET Framework 4.0 installed and is fully patched.

Is there a strategy for troubleshooting this issue?

Thanks!
