Getting Exception: Testing Custom Webservice deployed on SharePoint 2010 using VS 2010 Pro

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WCF

Hi there, I am a newbie in Webservice programming.
The exception:
The Address property on ChannelFactory.Endpoint was null.  The ChannelFactory's Endpoint must have a valid Address specified.
I have read many sites in internet (found unfortunately only for VS2008 and SP2007) and tried many things, but always failed. I really need your help to solve this problem. Thank you in advance.

I am trying to test a custom webservice deployed on Sharepoint 2010:

The webservice can be called: http://localhost/_vti_bin/StructureSearch/StructureSearchService.svc
And I got instructions like below:

svcutil.exe http://localhost/_vti_bin/StructureSearch/StructureSearchService.svc?wsdl

This will generate a configuration file and a code file that contains the client class. Add the two files to your client application and use the generated client class to call the Service. For example:

C# .. and so on

So I created a simple c# console app like following:

sharepoint 2010 custom webservice, visual studio 2010, unable to get reference - content type is tex

I followed the MSDN example in how to create a custom webservice that integrates with sharepoint at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms464040.aspx

I'm able to successfully call the custom webservice it walks you through from internet explorer out of a sharepoint 2010 site using a URL such as http://vm-spproduction/sites/resource/_vti_bin/service.asmx

And, I'm able to successfully call the same custom webservice from internet explorer out of the same sharepoint 2010 server with the URL http://vm-spproduction/_vti_bin/service.asmx

In Visual Studio 2010 (running on the same hardware server as sharepoint 2010), I am able to bring up the same custom webservice in the add web reference using the advanced buttons of the add service reference dialog.  But, when the custom webservice is found, visual studio reports the following error:

The document at the url http://vm-spproduction/sites/resource/_vti_bin/service.asmx was not recognized as a known document type.
The error message from each known type may help you fix the problem:

Passing values from web page to custom security trimmer in SharePoint 2010

Hi, In SharePoint 2007 we had a custom security trimmer that implemented ISecurityTrimmer interface. We also had a custom webpart used for search. Now, using HttpContext we passed values from the webpart to security trimmer with additional info needed to trim the results. It worked since trimmer was executed in the same w3wp process as webpart. Now in SharePoint 2010, the architecture for ISecurityTrimmer2 has changed, as it's executed in search process (other w3wp) - not the webpart w3wp so it has no access to the HttpContext. Question is: how to pass custom data, in form of the string, to a security trimmer when search is done from custom code in webart?

Custom XSL stylesheet rendering for a XSLTListViewWebPart in SharePoint 2010

Hi, How can I apply the custom XSL rendering for the XSLTListView web part in SharePoint 2010? So, for example, I have a list of "Employees". Here is the list of columns I have for this Employee list - Full name, Job Title, Team, Contribution, Project. For this list I have created a new "List View" which has a grouping by Job Title. Then I have created a new page. In that page, I have added the Employees List and then in web part properties I have changed it to use the new List View (grouped by Job Title). I would like to control the HTML rendering of this web part and I don't know how do I achieve this? I do understand that by default a list view web part uses vwsytles.xsl and fldtypes.xsl stylesheets which are located in %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\14\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\XSL on the server. Should I grab these stylesheets and then change it and then point the web part to use these new ones? How do I change the web part to point to the stylesheets that I want to use instead of the default ones? I have also noticed that you can not even export the list view web part and change the properties and then import it back. I had a look at the web part properties (by clicking on "Edit Web Part"). The properties panel has "Miscellaneous" category which has the following properties - Sample Data, XSL Link etc

Creating Custom ASP.NET Control for use on a SharePoint 2010 OOTB WebPart

I am currently trying to develop a custom asp.net control that can be deployed to SharePoint 2010 and then included on something like a New item form. I have been able to build the control as part of a webpart but it needs to be done as a stand alone control that can be used on various webparts including the out of the box webparts like the WebPartPages:DataFormWebPart. Are there any good examples of building a custom control, deploying it to SharePoint and then using SharePoint designer to add that control to an existing web part?

SharePoint 2010 Excel Service Exception

SharePoint 2010 Excel Service Exception   I created Windows Form Application in Visual Studio 2010. I added Service Reference: http://<SharePoint _Server_Name>/_vti_bin/ExcelService.asmx. The code line: ExcelContract.XLWebService.ArrayOfAnyType returnData =              proxy.GetRangeA1(sessionID, sheetName, nameRange, false, out wsStatus);     throws exception: The formatter threw an exception while trying to deserialize the message: There was an error while trying to deserialize parameter http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/excel/server/webservices:GetRangeA1Response. Adding a custom control to the SharePoint 2010 Team Site Wiki Page Template ( wkpstd.aspx ) programm

Topic This is maybe my last post about the Team Site Wiki Page customization with the aim of exceeding its limitations. This time we are going to customize the unique template ( wkpstd.aspx) by replacing the control that renders the editable content by a custom one. In this post example, we will take advantage of the use of this custom control to render not editable additional contents, for instance, a header and a footer that could be the same for a specific Wiki Page Library. Of course, we are not going to really customize the template, but we are going to use a delegate control to replace the control at runtime. Here are the screen shots of the result: We can see a non editable Header and Footer on the Team Site Wiki Page In edit mode these additional contents are not rendered, but we can add new content as usual And of course, after having saved the page, the new content is rendered wtih the non editable Header and Footer. Steps required   If you look at the Team Site Wiki Page template, wkpstd.aspx, you can see the control that is rendering the editable content/ <SharePoint:EmbeddedFormField ID="WikiField" FieldName="WikiField" ControlMode="Display" runat="server" /> We are first going to create a custom EmbeddedFormField control Then, we are going to use a delegate control to replace the native EmbeddedFor
