How to shrink the sharepoint database log file

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hello,

I have a SharePoint content database with the size 70GB but he log file is 450GB. i wanted to shrink the log file. Can anyone tell me  how to do that ? It would be great if anyone can provide me the complete flow.

  1. Do I have to shink the log file when the database is offline?
  2. what if we just take the backup and create a new log file ?
  3. How do we restrict the size of the log file by not growing big but just auto shrink by it self.

This is all on the production server, i need to fix this asap. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance.

Shrink database log file sql server 2005

Hi, I am trying to shrink log file for a testing database.This database will be restored with production database periodically.When i tried to create backup of the log file Processed 0 pages for database 'hcbeta', file 'HC_log' on file 6. The log was not truncated because records at the beginning of the log are pending replication. Ensure the Log Reader Agent is running or use sp_repldone to mark transactions as distributed. BACKUP LOG successfully processed 0 pages in 0.423 seconds (0.000 MB/sec). I tried EXEC sp_repldone @xactid = NULL, @xact_segno = NULL, @numtrans = 0, @time = 0, @reset = 1 Resulted with error:Unable to execute procedure. The database is not published. Execute the procedure in a database that is published for replication. So tried to publish the database using EXEC sp_dboption 'hcbeta', 'Publish', 'true' resulted error mesage:Msg 15242, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_dboption, Line 138 Database option 'Publish' is not unique. and retrived duplicate_options as "merge Publish" ,"Publish" Plesae help me in shrinking my database log file. Thanks, Adi.

Upload a File to a SharePoint Document Library - Part I

The following helper class demonstrates a few techniques that allow documents to be uploaded to a SharePoint document library programmatically without using the API or a custom web service. You don't need to specify a document library name, and it will create any folders specified in the URL as required. File meta data will be updated if any properties are passed.

ClientAccessPolicy file in SharePoint 2010

I am upgrading my Silverlight demo code from the old beta to beta 2 and see that there are a few new considerations for the deployment of ClientAccessPolicy.xml files. In a previous post I demonstrated how to do this for SharePoint 2007. The heartburn that I get with that approach is any site collection owner or designer can drag the file into the site collection and open the site up to unwanted client access issues. In 2010 the virtual path provider no longer serves the files from the root of the site collection

Does this look correct for saving a file/ new record to a database

So thank you for all your help so far, So I think i got this right,
but would like for you all to look it over to see if there is any
areas I might run into trouble with:

//using asp.net mvc 2

"Pattern_Media"
table fields
"Pattern_Media_GUID  uniqueid
"Pattern_GUID  uniqueid
"Media varbinary(max)
"height int
"Width int
"Media_Type String (50)

the form:
<h2> Add Media to this pattern</h2>
<% Html.EnableClientValidation(); %>
<% Html.BeginForm("AddMedia", "Pattern", new { id= Model.Pattern_Guid} , FormMethod.Post, new {enctype = "multipart/form-data"}); %>

    <%: Html.Label("height") %>
    <%: Html.TextBox("height") %>

    <%: Html.Label("width") %>
    <%: Html.TextBox("width") %>

    <%: Html.Label("Media") %>
    <input type="file" id="Media" name="Media" />

An example of packaging web application containing database upgrade SQL file

A few months ago, we have a blog talking about extending the web publishing pipeline to package database project deployed SQL file.  In this blog, I'll show step by step example of packaging web application with SQL Server database upgrade SQL file using Visual Studio 2010.  This way, we can generate a web package with incremental SQL script to certain database version.  The scenario may help distributions of a web upgrade package which needs to be installed on many different locations, each with their own SQL server database.   1. Create a Web Application Project 2. Add a new "SQL Server 2008 Database Project" to the solution 3. Prepare a development database, such as my test1 database as the following: 4. Insert image into Infopath form and save to SharePoint as PDF file

I have an InfoPath web-enabled form in MOSS 2007, that is integrated with a K2 blackpoint process for an approval workflow.

Once the form (a Purchase Order request form) has been approved in the K2 workflow process, I switch the form view to a "print-friendly" view for the requestor to view from the browser.  However, now I need to go one step further with this scenario:

1) I need to somehow insert/embed an image with the scanned-in signature of the approver (likely stored in a SP doc library) at the signature line section of my form.  Also, what are the security requirements for storing such images, but not granting all users access to these (e.g. only services accounts that need to access this for embedding into the form, etc.)?

2) Then I need to convert this final "print-friendly" view of the form (with the signature image) to a PDF document so that I can store it in SharePoint (and email it to the requestor using K2's email event capabilities).

Can anyone help me with a solution to both of these requirement, or point me to some resources for this (even 3rd party components are open-game).

thanks!

SharePoint List with Hyperlinks Stored in a Database

To all,

I need to display a List of Hyperlinks that are stored in a database. I want it to be a SharePoint List so it can be Indexed and Search properly in SharePoint.

SharePointSite Table - Columns:SiteName(nvarchar(256)), URL(nvarchar(256))

Example: Acme Foods, http://www.acme.com

I need a List that shows:

Acme Foods and is a clickable hyperlink  to http://www.acme.com

What is the best way to get access to the data and feed it to a List and then host it on a Site landing page?

This is meant to be a directory of Site Collections. We have 175 Site Collections that host our customers Report Libraries.

Thanks,
Eric
