Crawling does not happing on a content database from set of DBs of my Web Application (MOSS)

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi Team,

This is regarding indexing in MOSS content sources. I have an MOSS application(web site) configured as Content source for crawling. A user reported that his is not able to search on the content uploaded to his site. After performing quite a few checks and investigatations. We found below info in crawl log, we suspect that this is  crawling of all sites in Content Database(i.e., non are crawled and searchable). Atleast that is what we understand by trying search of quite a few sites residing in the databse.

Exception from HRESULT: 0x81070504 (There is no Web named "/sites/020045t".)

Also we find the site only in SiteMap table in SharePoint config Database only. We tried deletesite command with -force and -siteid switch, both were unsuccessful. Can someone tell us how to remove this orphan site/ entry in sitemap table? We are hesitent to delete the row in sitemap table since we do not impact of doing it from backend.

Thank you,

MOSS Content Database has more documents than what's seen on browser

I am not sure how sharepoint internally handles stuff, but this is what I see. I am a SQLDBA and one of my company sharepoint group re-organized a site, by moving some files from a document library to another document library. I think she used the content deployment.

When she see the number of documents in the document library it showed 700 documents. She moved only 50 of them. I went into the database and queried the Docs and DocStreams View and I get the list of all the those documents. I see both the ones that we see on the site as well as something that we do not see on the site.

Move Single MOSS Content Database to Different SQL Server

We want to mmove the single database of MOSS on Network Test and Development to the Production SQL Server. But MOSS aplication server remains same!

So in this condition it points out for the two database servers at the same time.

Is it possible? Or I need to migrate the all concern databases to the another SQL Server?

Pls HelP!

Creating and configuring a Web Application with pre-created content database

I recently looked at the very interesting Technet article named "Deploy by using DBA-created databases (SharePoint 2010)"; I've noticed something strange in the following section:

To create and configure the portal site Web application

  1. [DBA] Create the portal site Web application content database using the LATIN1_General_CI_AS_KS_WS collation sequence and set the database owner (dbo) to be the Setup user account.

  2. [DBA] Using SQL ServerManagement Studio, add the service application service account to the Users group and then to the db_owner role for the portal site Web application content database.

  3. [Setup] From the SharePoint 2010 Management Shell, use the New-SPWebApplication and Get-SPWebApplication cmdlets to configure the portal site Web application content database. Use the following example as a guide.

New-SPWebApplication -Name "Contoso Internet Site" -Port 80 -HostHeader "http://sharepoint.contoso.com" -URL "https://www.contoso.com" -ApplicationPool "ContosoAppPool&q

Application Vs. Content Pages in SharePoint

SharePoint has two types of ASPX pages. One type is the application page, also known as a _layout page. The other type of ASPX page is a content page, also known as a site page. Each of these page types is stored in a different location in SharePoint. When developers create custom ASPX pages, they must decide on the page type.

    Content Types in MOSS 2007

In this article I will try to describe the one of the best feature in Microsoft office Share Point 2007 called Content Types.

Content types are simply collection of contents. Each content in a Content type can have different settings.Basically it is a reusable collection of settings which you want to apply to a particular category of contents.

Upsize Your Database: Convert Your Microsoft Access Application to Take Advantage of SQL Server 7.0

What if you need to convert an existing Microsoft Access 97 database application into a true client-server application that is based on a SQL Server back end? If you know a little about Visual Basic and SQL Server, it's easy to make your app take advantage of the power and scalability provided by SQL Server 7.0. Using some concrete code examples, this article takes you step by step through converting the native Jet queries in your Access application into stored procedures and pass-through queries that SQL Server can use. You'll also learn how to pass on parameters when your client-server app calls these SQL Server stored procedures and queries.

An example of packaging web application containing database upgrade SQL file

A few months ago, we have a blog talking about extending the web publishing pipeline to package database project deployed SQL file.  In this blog, I'll show step by step example of packaging web application with SQL Server database upgrade SQL file using Visual Studio 2010.  This way, we can generate a web package with incremental SQL script to certain database version.  The scenario may help distributions of a web upgrade package which needs to be installed on many different locations, each with their own SQL server database.   1. Create a Web Application Project 2. Add a new "SQL Server 2008 Database Project" to the solution 3. Prepare a development database, such as my test1 database as the following: 4. Creating an database search application in VS C#

Hello everyone, I wish to create a C# application that will have a form and a text box where I can enter a text, and then ask the application to search if this text exists in a database. If it exists, I want all the information associated with this text to be displayed in a datagrid view or list box. I am able to create a database in SQL Server and I can connect to my database from VS 2005 C#. If this is possible, how do I go about it? Many thanks in advance.

Search content of different languages in one language of MOSS

Hi, Hope you guys can help to answer this Search question. E.g. English MOSS is installed, content in English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and Japanese are input to the system (either in Word/Excel file, ASPX page, Blog entry or Wikis page). In this case, how can the user search content by entering search keywords in languages other than English? The reason I ask this question is that: MOSS Search Engine uses English work-breaker/stemmer in the crawling and query process in MOSS English Version. Then, it cannot distinguish which languages are being crawled, e.g. pretending Japanese and Chinese as English when crawling the content. Is there any advanced way to solve this issue in MOSS 2007, besides installing various languages of MOSS in different servers? This problem exists in SharePoint 2003, so now I wonder if there is any improvement in 2007. As you know this is especially important in HK environment. Every customer ask the same question in Pre-Sales demo. Thanks in advance. Paul

SharePoint Version 2.0 (WSS 2.0 SP3) Content Database restore to new farm

Is it possible to use an SQL backup from a sharepoint Version 2 SP3 database to restore the content on a new server farm and attach to a new web applicaiton. NOTE: This is WSS 2.0. In WSS 3.0 this is a very simple task, but it is not the same in WSS 2.0 (the add content database option CANNOT be used to attach to an existing content database like it does in WSS 3.0). The options I have found appear to say you need the configuration database from the old server then it can be done. I am migrating from an outsourced deployment, so I do not have access to that. Plan B is to do a sharepoint STSADM backup. THis seems to be a more likey way to do it.

Looking for Clarification - Using a SQL Database MDF in an ASP.Net Application

I am looking to understand how to use Database files with ASP.Net web application projects. Very similar questions were posted, but I couldn't find quite the clarification I am looking for, so here's another post. I've been programming with ASP.Net for a while, but have always been in an environment where I had a full SQL server setup, and the databases were not file format. For the purposes of this project I am trying to keep it in .MDF format so that I can pass it on easily to my customer and let them do what they wish with it. The project is in Visual Studio 2010, a simple ASP.Net 4.0 MVC2 application that is to use EF 4.0 for persistence. Background Issue First thing I did was add a database to App_Data folder. It shows up on Server Explorer and I can manually add tables via Visual Studio - this should mean that the connection string and permissions and such fine I would think. So, next step. I created an Entity Diagram, built everything "model first" and used the Model to generate the database schema. Using the connection string in web.config, the generated SQL code runs, and says at the bottom of VS, "Disconnected". I go to the Server Explorer, and sure enough there's a red X next to the DB file. I expand the MDF, the little black arrow comes back, showing me I am connected. I try to run it again... and it does the same... "Disconnected"

We are working on a Publishing site and planning to provision each client as a sub-site under the top level site (TLS). All of these sub-sites will almost have the same web pages and based on the client specific requirement they can customize these pages if needed. To meet the above requirement: I want to develop common content pages or application pages with the publishing capabilities and host them at the TLS, making these common pages available for all sub-sites under the TLS with the following requirements. ·        Sub-sites will not have any of these pages on their own and there would be only one central copy of this common page at TLS. ·        The sub-sites should be able to access these common pages in their context that means using the sub-site specific Master page & Themes. ·        When there is a specific customization is required such as adding a different web part, or updating the HTML data on the page, the common page will be edited in the sub-site and eventually making its own copy of the common page and resulting breaking apart from the common page for any future changes. ·        When the user edits the page he should be alerted that customizing this common page will make a local copy an
