Issue with designer files not updating -- and therefore cannot code

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have a problem in which some nested controls on a page are not updated in the designer file. I have deleted the designer file, selected Convert to Web Application, but still the controls are missing.

I know there is a supposed fix at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/webdevtools/archive/2010/03/05/hotfix-for-issue-with-auto-generated-designer-files-not-adding-controls.aspx

Unfortunately the patch won't install and I still have the issue.

Any thoughts? I am running VS 2010 Version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel.

Updating list item values in SharePoint Designer using code

Is it possible to programmatically modify the SharePoint objects using SharePoint Designer Object Model. By that I mean coding in SharePoint Designer (not Visual Studio). For example, can we access the list items of a list programmatically and change their values? I can do all this in Visual Studio using SharePoint Object Model but I don’t find a way of achieving this by using programming in SharePoint Designer. I searched through http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb208639(office.12).aspx but no success. If the answer is yes. Can someone please give example(s) or point to some articles etc? Thanks in advance.

Code Name WinFS: Revolutionary File Storage System Lets Users Search and Manage Files Based on Conte

One of the monumental problems organizations face today is aggregating information that's stored in disparate formats. Knowledge workers have long wanted to be able to search for content independent of format. The next version of the Windows operating system, code-named "Longhorn," boasts a new storage subsystem that makes that task easier. That subsystem, code-named "WinFS," allows the user to perform searches based on the metadata of the stored item, regardless of what type of file it is or which application created it. This article covers the basic architecture of WinFS and explains how to use the WinFS managed API.

Can't open site in Designer/ Can't open files in Designer

I'm having trouble in Designer 2007.  I can not open any sites files on sites on our prodution server.  I get "Couldn't open file ..........aspx".  On our development server I can't even open sites.  I get "Invalid folder name".  Can anyone please advise?  I have seen other posts about this behavior, but none of the solutions have worked for me.  I've uninstalled Expression Web, I don't have Front Page installed, and I ran a repair installation on Designer.  Still no luck.  Any ideas please?

Showing Designer error for Silverlight App when trying to access resource which contains code e.Resu

Environment is: Silverlight 4, VS Studio 2010. Designer is showing error in a Silverlight App when trying to access a resource as below. And there are no build or runtime errors. Extensive research found that, in the "InvestorsProvider" class I am using wcf services, which has a callback method. In the call back method I am using this statement "this.MyProperty = e.Result" where e.Result is ObservableCollection. If I remove the e.Result it is not showing any designer problem. <UserControl.Resources> <local:InvestorsProvider x:Name="investorsProvider"></local:InvestorsProvider> </UserControl.Resources> Here is the error System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException [Async_ExceptionOccurred]Arguments: Debugging resource strings are unavailable. Updating Config Files in Sharepoint Farm

I am trying to update config files web.comnfig in the Virtual Directory of my server so that users are allowed to upload more that 50 MB of files in my IIS 7 server. Everytime i do the update it works fine but after few days when there are few changes then it removes the added elements itself and restore in the Original Stage. I used to edit my config files manually. I found a way of creating a config files and saving it to the Config Directory under 12 Hive in Server. Like the Content will be similar as follows <actions>    <add path="configuration/SharePoint/SafeControls">       <SafeControl          Assembly="System.Web, Version=1.0.5000.0, Culture=neutral,             PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"          Namespace="System.Web.UI.WebControls"          TypeName="*"          Safe="True"/>    </add>   </actions> I have to add following line <system.webServer>     <security>       <requestFiltering>         <requestLimits maxAllowedCon

VS 2010 not updating code

I have VS 2010 64 bit installed on Win7 64. When I had a datagrid control attached to a SQLdatasource it would select fine but not do any updates to the database. thought it was a caching issue.  I went the SQLdatasource route and added a class to handle the data retrieval. I had attached code to a button to do a search of the table based on text in a textbox. I got that working, but decided to comment out all the code in the button_click event. I ran the code in the debug mode and the page still worked including the lookup. copied the URL to other browsers and same outcome.  i closed VS2010, restarted, deleted the button, ran the page with no button, then added a button onto the page (different name for button) and when I ran the application the search worked. So the code must be cached somewhere and is not being updated each time i save an update. Has anyone seen this behavior??

SSIS And Sybase Source OLEDB connectivity issue with code page for character set

Hi I am using SSIS 2008 to connect the Sybase Server version 15.0.3 64-bit. The default character set id used by this Sybase server is 4 (i.e. roman8). (http://manuals.sybase.com/onlinebooks/group-charc/chg0300e/charsets/@Generic__BookTextView/1706;pt=266) I had installed Sybase Client for Sybase OLEDB Driver (ASEOLEDB) to integrate this in OLEDB Source Editor. As per guidance from one of the past MSDN forum discussion, I tried setting property of AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage property to "FALSE"  (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sqlintegrationservices/thread/f5af9328-e1fb-48d7-a85d-1d08bb7cf0e5/). However, I am still experiencing error message as follows:- ********************************************************* Error at Package2 [Connection manager "xxxxxx.xxxxxxx"]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. External Code Assemblies, Report Subscriptions, and configuration files

I've got a report that relies on a very small external assembly for data for one of its fields.  That assembly, in turn, relies on some values from System.Configuration for portions of its work. I have the configuration keys and values running fine in the web interface, set up in web.config, but when users set up subscriptions for the report it runs fine but doesn't retrieve the configuration values from web.config (as expected) nor does it retrieve them from rsreportserver.config, where I have tried them in the root of the config file as <add key=... /> entries and also by wrapping them inside an <appSettings /> node.  I have also tried them in an appropriately-name config file in the bin directory.  In all cases the report is fine except the field that relies on the external assembly, where I recieve an error indicating that there's missing information (the config vals are used in a String.Format() call): Value cannot be null. Parameter name: format at System.String.Format(IFormatProvider provider, String format, Object[] args) at ExternalDBFunctions.ExternalSelectors.GetNotificationStati(String NotificationID) mscorlib When I remove the config values from the web.config, the web interface shows exactly the same error. Where should these configuration values go?

Sharepoint Designer issue "could not deserialize object"?

Hi there, I'm relatively new to Sharepoint in general but I've got an install of Sharepoint Foundation and I'm working my way through the book "Sharepoint 2010 Development." At any rate, I'm trying to create a workflow in Visio 2010 and then export that workflow into Sharepoint Designer 2010. However, when I try to import the .vwi file into Designer, I get a "Could not deserialize object. The type 'Microsoft.Office.Workflow.Actions.ApprovalTaskProcess' could not be resolved." This, of course, is because in Visio I have a Start Approval Process object.  Is this particular workflow item not available for Sharepoint Foundation? Does anyone have any idea why I'm getting this error? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks, Jearod

Data from text files, What's wrong with my code?

Hi all, I have uploaded some tab-delimited .txt files on my web site (actually run on my computer, ie localhost, for now), and now I try to retrieve the data from those files. I do this by calling a vb file containg the sub below. Everything works great, except that the sub won't recognise unicode characters. I can split the resulting string using vbnewline and vbtab, but already in the sub in question, the string doesn't understand the Swedish letters åäö, apostrophes and more. Any help would be greatly appreciated! /Pettrer       Shared Function getTextfile(ByVal FullPath As String, Optional ByRef ErrInfo As String = "") As String Dim strContents As String = "" Dim objReader As StreamReader Try objReader =New StreamReader(FullPath) 'UTF8Encoding? strContents = objReader.ReadToEnd() objReader.Close() ErrInfo = Ex.MessageCatch Ex As Exception End Try Return strContents End Function

Is it possible to create WSP files within Designer 2010?

I'm just getting to grips with Designer 2010 and was wondering if I edited a CSS, Pagelayout or Masterpage (for example), how easy it would be to package them up into a WSP file? Would it be easy to export the changes within Designer into VS2010? Can you import the changes into VS2010? Or would I have to do it the hard way and copy each file and drop them into a WSP project in VS2010 and then build and deploy? Just getting my head around which would be more automated - if at all. Cheers.   Keith.

How do I get column values in Sharepoint designer so I can use them as a variable in code block?

The code below is in my EditForm.aspx and it works but instead of it outputting "This is just a test!" I need get a number that is stored in a column named Phone Number that has 5555555555 stored in it and have the line that says TD2.innerHTML = "This is just a test!"; ouput what ever number is stored in the Phone Number column. Here is the code that is in my EditForm.aspx <script type="text/javascript">function DisplayItemID(){       var TD1 = document.createElement("TD");       TD1.className = "ms-formlabel";       TD1.innerHTML = "<h3 class='ms-standardheader'>Test</h3>";       var TD2 = document.createElement("TD");       TD2.className = "ms-formbody";       TD2.innerHTML = "This is just a test!";       var IdRow = document.createElement("TR");       IdRow.appendChild(TD1);       IdRow.appendChild(TD2);       var ItemBody = GetSelectedElement(document.getElementById("idAttachmentsRow"),"TABLE").getElementsByTagName("TBODY")[0];

Designer vs. Code-Behind

Is it better to add strongly typed datasets from the designer or write the code by yourself and why i should use one over another ?Cons and Pros? Thanks
