ASP.net free text search issue for "C#"

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

In my ASP.net application I have used index server utility to search specific text from word/text files.

For this functionality I have used index server and configured folder. After implementation of this program this was running fine but after some time user reported they can not find keyword "C#" or any word with "#". I think I should share my experience and solution with other developer who may also faced or facing this issue.

Use the following code and it will work.

"Desc" is the text box name and searchstr is the search string paased to index server to search from files.

Desc.Text.contains("C#") Then

searchStr = "C#"

searchStr = Desc.Text.ToLower()

End If

Filter search over multiple text columns

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a library that stores information on various cases. The case table has several columns that contain descriptive strings on what happened in the case. I would like to create a single filter that returns all cases where the search string is found in any of the columns. I've looked at Dynamic Data Filtering, but as far as I can tell, the "Contains" filter only allows you to connect to each column individually. Has anyone tried this?

Full text search in a Word document

I´m currently programming a web search application in ASP.Net and having problem with full text searching. My requirements are:

1. Save a byte array from SQL server to word document as a temp file in a server side?

2. How to highlight the string I am currently searching in the Word document and return to the user the sentence with the highlighted string (like on Bing or any other search engines)? Is it possible to fullfill this requirement with full-text search integrated in SQL Server 2008?

Thanks in advance,

Search does not find text in Word document stored in document library on a Report Center site within

We have a document library on a site created off of the Report Center site template. We uploaded a Word 2007 document with the word zebra in the text. Using the search bar at the top of the page we selected This list: Our document library and searched for zebra. We received no results.

We tested the same thing on another site (site template Team site) within the same site collection and search worked fine.

Does the Report Center search function differently then the search functionality on the Team site?

Search Scope Issue

I have 8 web applications containing different sites. One of the web applications is hosting a site called pmsportal.

Currently search results display files from all sites and from all web applications having matching results. That is like google!!! Sweet!!! BUT its over-performing! The owners of the pmsportal want search results to display only results from within their site ONLY...how do I do that? In the SSP Search Settings I have only two(2) Content Sources defined

(1) Local Office SharePoint Server sites

(2) PeopleSoft_Data

Someone please help.

Custom Search issue with freetext

Hi All,

My Environment : MOSS 2007 (sp2) with SQL Server 2005

I have a custom search webpart which uses FullTextSqlQuery to fetch the results from Index. I have a some keywords and a free text boxt to build the search query. Poeple enter their query by selecting the keywords and enter some free text into the text box.

Issue : When any PDF document (Not tested with .Doc) is searched using custom webpart with the numbers like "2,0233.21" I do not get any results returned even though the results are returned using the SharePoint out of box full text search. But when I search the content like "2+0233+21" I get results both in Out of box and in custom search webpart.

Requirement: The Custom search should be able to find the document when numbers like "2,0233.21" are entered. It should work exactly like the out of box search.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

full-text search error

I have created procedure for full-text search and it works in SQL Management Studio 2008 (SQL Server 2008 Express) but in Visual Studio 2010 not - I have error:

Full-Text Search is not installed, or a full-text component cannot be loaded.

I have read somewhere that only admin can use full-text indexes - so how I can use full-text search in VS2010 ?

Text Search Strategy Question for the SSIS Gurus...

BACKGROUND: As I have mentioned in some of my other posts I am using SSIS 2005 to replace an existing MS Access 2003 / VBA based ETL engine which I developed some years back.   Part of my existing Access-based ETL performs a text search of the source records and I am now attempting to replicate that functionality in SSIS (replicate in terms of the end-result and not necessarily the methods used to get to that end result).  I have an idea of how I plan to go about this but since am relatively new to SSIS so would greatly appreciate the feedback of those more experienced... DETAILED DESCRIPTION: In the source (Sybase ASE15) database, there is an "object" table (not the actual table name but for illustrative purposes it will suffice).  Within the object table there is a "description" column which is a char(60) datatype.  The description column simply represents a description of the object as defined by the source system end-user. For my ETL solution I allow the ETL administrator to define one or many (1...n) key words or phrases which represent search criteria.  These search criteria are stored in a reference table in my target SQL Server 2005 database (the same database to which my ETL will transform results and store them).  My objective, is as follows:  For each of the 1...n search criteria defined, try and find th

Weird Issue with the MOSS Search : FileExtension metadata object type instead of string

Hello, We 've got a strange issue with the search and especially with the FileExtension metadata. when we make a query on the search engine, we receive for the FileExtension metadata an unexcpected result. here is a printscreen showing the issue. http://cid-53eee937847a625e.photos.live.com/self.aspx/Public/Untitled.jpg as you can see the Type of the FileExtension is object and it should be string and I checked the type of the object and it's System.String[] the element at the index 0 contains the value! what's wrong ? thx in advance

Accent-insensitive search with Arabic text

I've indexed documents in Arabic that contain accents (or diacritics) and I want to be able to conduct searches where the query does contain the accents but returns results for texts that both contain and do not contain accents. For example, if I have a document that contains the word "????????????" (a word with accents), I would like to be able to search using the word "???????" (the same word without accents). I have tried several combinations of configurations in my environment to no avail. I have tried installing my SQL Server using Arabic collation and I have installed the Arabic language pack on my OS. I have also tested the same thing with French, and it is working properly. The spsearchdiacriticsensitive value is set to false (the default). Does anyone know how to get this working? Is it even possible to do accent-insensitive search with Arabic? More on my environment: MOSS 2007 Enterprise Windows 2008 R2 SQL Server 2008 R2 Thank you

Full Text Search architecture needs to be enhanced for true multilingual web applications

This is for the MS SQL Server development team that handles the code for Full Text Search. Hopefully you will read this. I developed a web application that supports multilingual content. As is typical in the real world, many people often need to create their content in multiple languages or even have multiple languages present within the same content. In my SQL Server database I have a single table that is used to store all the text from all languages. A single column is used to store this text. A separate column is used to identify the language of the content and uses Culture Codes like en-us, de-de, etc.. Furthermore, the format of the content could be plain text, html or whatever. Business logic at a higher level in my application code knows what the format is for each record because data is retrieved within the context of whatever a web page uses. For example, a user sending an e-mail would use plain text for the subject. For the body, html would be used. When these two pieces of information are stored in the same table, my code knows upon retrieving it what is text and what is html. It makes no sense storing a subject and body of an email in two separate tables. This is just a simple example but hopefully you get the point. After going through the documentation on FTS, it became clear to me that my table design is completely incompatible with the FTS paradigm. FTS requ

Advanced text search...

See requirement examples below.... any suggestions / ideas are helpful.... I am using SQL server 2005 and I have a limitation that I should not use full text search. I have a table with nvarchar(100) column which holds data. Users will enter search terms on text box with predefined grammar. See examples below..... 1. BEFORE operator "intersection before(n) car" finds intersection when it precedes car by n terms, where n is the nearness value 2. NEAR operator "intersection near(n) car" finds intersection within n terms of car, where n is the nearness value
