Is it possible to (re)create a variation's subsite?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Let's say I have two variation labels: NL(dutch) and EN (english) and NL is the Source Variation.

The main sites are working fine and the variations are linked correctly.

Now let's assume I have a subsite A, but somebody deleted the subsite A on the english variation. Is it possible to recreate this subsite without throwing away the entire variation label EN and then choose Create Hierarchies?

Thanks in advance!

Create site template and adding subsite using site template is broken in sharepoint 2010

I am trying to create a site template base on an existing site and try to use the new site template to generate other sub-sites.  It sounds simple and the code is not that difficult to follow; however, Microsoft has made it impossible to accomplish by having a bug in their template creation process.   //Generate web template from existing website using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://localhost")) { SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb("/barrington/accounting"); web.SaveAsTemplate("NewDepartmentTemplate", "NewDepartmentTemplate", "NewDepartmentTemplate", true); }   //Generate sub site using the new template using (SPSite site = new SPSite("http://localhost")) { SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb("/barrington/accounting"); SPWebTemplate tp = null; foreach (SPWebTemplate wt in web.GetAvailableWebTemplates((uint)1033)) { if (wt.Title == "NewDepartmentTemplate") { tp = wt; break; } } if (tp != null) { SPWeb newWeb = web.Webs.Add("NewDepartment", "NewDepartment", "NewDepartment", (uint)1033, tp, false, false); } } Error: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException was unhandled   Message=The content type name '$Resources:_FeatureId367b94a9-4a15-42ba-b4a2-32420363e018,DataSourceContentTypeName;' cannot contain: \  / : * ? Site Collection Admin Unable to create subsite

Hi All,

We are running into a wierd kind of problem, we had a site called A, A had to be split for two different user base so A was exported into B. Now we have two sites A & B with its own user groups.

Site collection admins of B are not able to create subsites in B. But site collection Admins of both A & B are able to create subsites in either sites.

if site collection admin of  B is given read/write control on Site A then he is able to create sites in B (totally wierd)

Can anybody help me identifying what is happening here and points to start our troubleshooting.

Thanks in Advance,

Programmatically create blog subsite

public override void FeatureActivated(SPFeatureReceiverProperties properties)

   SPWeb web = (SPWeb)properties.Feature.Parent;

    web.Webs.Add("CommunityBlog", "Community Blog", "A blog for community sites", 1033, "BLOG#0", false, false);

    //write to logs

    //Free up resources

I have the code above in a feature receiver which is activated from my site definition. I don't receive any errors but when I create a new site collection based on my definition, no blog subsite is created. Is there a way to get the SPSite object without using SPContext, since it looks like it can't be used in a receiver?Any help would be appreciated.

Create And Run Excel Macro At Runtime in C#

You've been tasked with writing a Windows Form application using the .NET Framework that interacts with Microsoft Excel. If you are new to working with Excel in .NET and are having trouble learning how to format certain cells or cell ranges, then this little tip will come in handy. Rather than scour the internet hoping to find the correct set of constants or method syntax for formatting your spreadsheet, use the built in tools in Excel to write the familiar VBA code for you. Then, you can paste the VBA code generated by Excel into the sample C# code below and run it dynamically at runtime.

Create and Use a Typed DataSet by Using Visual C# .NET

How to create a windows mobile (Smart Device) .Cab installer

A Cab file is the default setup format for Windows CE and Windows Mobile devices (similar to windows .msi files). You probably already have installed several application using .cab files, and are familiar with the concept. One point which is often unknown is that .cab files are processed by wceloader.exe, and it can only install one .cab file at a time. That means we cannot have nested .cab files. It doesn't mean we cannot have .cab files contained by another .cab, but the contained .cab files will not be installed during the installation of the container .cab. We should install it manually after the container .cab file installation has been completed.

There are two ways to create a cabinet (.Cab) file. The traditional one, and the friendly VS Smart Device Cab project which doesn't require additional coding, but which also relies on the traditional one at low-level.

Create Web Site vs Web Application

Create an API (aspx vs mvc)

Hi everybody!

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, so, sorry if it's not. I have to create a web application. I can handle that. But, it has a requirement I've never done before. I need to create an API for that application, so other apps can get or set information from/to my webapp.

I've been searching a lot and still don't have a starting point. Seems that MVC is really good to do that, but I'm not familiar with MVC, so I would need a starting point. I was thinking to do it in aspx (Framework 4), but do not know how to do that with aspx either.

Can anyone help me to get started with this?

Thanks in advance

I thought this would be simple... Trying to create a login does an ajax check before submit

I have the standard .net login control that is working.  (Still learning .net after 15yrs of classic)

What I want to do is OnButtonClick run a javascript function (to do an ajax call to the db to check if login is valid or not) and if it returns true, then submit the form normally, else don't submit. The piece that I can't figure out, is how to correctly override the default click even to hit my JS routine and then submit the form properly afterwards.

Thanks ahead of time

MVC2 issue - Stuck. Trying to create a cms with nested partials

I am currently trying to display multiple items on a single page. I am not sure as to how to tackle this. What I have is a database table that has all the page data in. I have this run as a PagesController and this works fine. However what I would like to do is, if say the Products page is selected via the menu, I want to pull back not only the Products page html but also get all the products, and even be able to pull them through via category. I was trying to use a partial view, but I can't get it to work. The same would be for other pages, having partial views to display the other content, ie if Gallery is selected, the page html for Gallery shows and it then can push to a partial view that pulls all the gallery images from the gallery db table and so on.

Maybe I am tackling this the wrong way. I have the pages stored in the db to allow for a CMS system I have setup. Maybe I need to use models for all the other items(Products, Gallery, Videos and such) and use the partial for the page html?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am confused.
