datetime conversions (en-GB) (en-US) giving errors using calendar extended textbox

I have a site which is in en-GB culture (cannot be changed) and provides dates via a textbox with a calendar extender in this format  DD/MM/YYYY. This then populates an sqlparameter

The db server is in en-US and expects dates in this format:  YYYY-MM-DD 00:00:00.000

I have tried many many different methods to get this converted, ready to submit to db but am being presented with errors. Please can you show me the necessary syntax?

Server errors making backup tough

I have an older SQL server, with a RAID 1 mirror...most of our company is dependent on the databases on the machine...so we are upgrading to a RAID 5 SQL server 2008 box. The problem is I have dying sectors on the old machine. It will only make backups locally, if I try to copy them to the network, mirror them or use a tape drive for a backup, it bombs the machine and forces a reboot...thus killing the backup.

Any help on getting this info safely off this machine so I can get it loaded on the new box would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! --Grainger

Errors restoring DB from backup created on another server

I'm trying to restore a DB from a backup created on another server. The restore finishes but then I get the following error and everything rolls back. Has anyone seen this error before? Is there a resolution? Here's the response received.

SSRS Reports deployed on sharepoint giving Permission Errors.

Dear All

We recently migrated our sharepoint from standalone to distributed environment.Everything is working fine except SSRS reports.

MOSS is on Server X and Databases,Report Server is on Database Y

Report Server is configured to run in SharePoint integrated mode.

Central Admin Settings are set as recommended by microsoft for distributed environment.

When i try to access reports or Report DataSource i get this error.

An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode. --> The permissions granted to user 'EMS\bmsadmin' are insufficient for performing this operation. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: The permissions granted to user 'EMS\bmsadmin' are insufficient for performing this operation.

I have looked around everything and all setting seems fine. Single Domain Account is used for all services and Report Server service account as well.

Transaction log backup job failed suddenly

We are using SQL Server 2000. There is a maintenance plan to backup three databases on a daily basis (full-backup) and their transactional log every 4 hours.

All the jobs have been running well, however, since last 3 days the transactional log backup job has been failing for one of the three databases. Transactional logs are stored on same location on disk.

I checked to confirm that there is enough space on the disk. Performed DBCC command on the database and that returned 0 errors.

I noticed the following errors:

From SQL server log:

From Database Maintenance Plan History:

“[Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000)] Error 3241: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The media family on device 'H:\XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.TRN' is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family. [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally”

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been a developer and now have to take c

Getting Started with Windows SharePoint Services

Of all of the capabilities of SharePoint, I thought I would start with the most basic installation - as a corporate intranet. It is likely that we will need to discuss some of the elements of SharePoint as we go along, so this also gives us the opportunity to review these elements for future reference.

Before going into too much detail, I would like to point out that you can try the core SharePoint framework (known as Windows SharePoint Services or WSS) for free. On Microsoft's Web site you can download a trial version of Virtual PC 2004 (VPC). Using VPC, you can install the Windows 2003 Evaluation Kit and the WSS add-on. This combination will give you 45 days to evaluate the setup.

Getting Started with Windows Communication Foundation

Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) provides a unified framework for rapidly building service-oriented applications that makes it easy to build and consume secure, reliable, and transacted Web services. It unifies the capabilities in ASMX, WSE, Remoting, COM+, and MSMQ; therefore developers need to learn only one programming model.

Getting Started with the SharePoint Packaging Designers

Visual Studio 2010 SharePoint Tooling supports packaging of WSP files with visual designers, tool-windows and MSBuild. Here we start by introducing the designers.

The feature and package designers expose deployment concepts which are familiar to SharePoint developers. These include features, packages and SharePoint items as well as their attributes and contents. Some of them include feature scope, feature dependencies, packaged assemblies, safe-controls, class resources, and more. Additionally, the designers abstract away the more difficult concepts and provide pre-deployment validation rules to avoid common issues when deploying your solutions. The designers allow advanced users partial or full control of the feature and solution manifest files to merge or add data and view the final product.

SQL Server Backup and Restore (video)

Restore your full backup, then run a few queries before you keep restoring transaction logs. Brent shows how to use the Standby option for restores.

In this five minute video, Brent demonstrates how to do it by creating a database, populating data, and then showing what disaster recovery is like by doing RESTORE WITH STANDBY.

How to backup SMS from windows mobile Pocket PC to computer

How to backup SMS from windows mobile Pocket PC to computer

Many Windows Mobile Pocket PC Phone users could not backup their SMS to txt file or view on computer. I found this software offers a SMS Messages backup solution to Backup all SMS messages for Windows Mobile Phones onto computer and keep them safe. Here is the user's guide:

How can I be sure that my entire project is up-to-date and free of errors in VS2010?

Seems like a stupid question, but I will go to Build > Build Solution many many times and the build will succeed many many times, then I will put in a minor syntax error and the build will fail, BUT the build will not fail because of the minor syntax error; it will fail because of an unresolved type that I put in about twenty compiles ago. And then I will fix the minor syntax eror, and the compiler will still complain about the unresolved type. Here is my code:

<%@ Register TagPrefix="FTB" Namespace="FreeTextBoxControls" Assembly="FreeTextBox" %>
  <form runat="server">
  Hello World!!

Pretty simple, really. I go to Buld > Build WebApplication1 and it runs OK. Now, if I put in a minor syntax error, such as substitute "forrrrrrrm" for "form" and then try to Build Solution, it complains not about the misspelled word, but about the FreeTextBox. And then if I correct the misspelled wird, it still complains about the FreeTextBox. Which leads me to believe that Building the Solution does not check absolutely 100% everything that needs to be checked. Is there a more thorough way of compiling a program that I need to use?

Word Automation - Multiple DCOM Errors/Behavior

Before I get started, I already know that Microsoft does not support and highly discourages server-based MS Office automation.  I've read a multitude of posts and smarmy "*wink*, here's a link" replies, so I'm looking for actual help here, not condescending reprimands.

That notwithstanding, here is my problem.  I have developed a simple method that will open a local Word document, modify some header information, and then save the document as a new file.  As expected, it works great as a console/windows app, but as soon as I went to ASP.NET, DCOM jacked my world up when accessing the app remotely from a different domain account (that has access to the ASP.NET app.  For reference, my method is shown below:

1 public static string ModifyAndSaveBuildDocument(string localFilePath, BuildDocumentType docType, string buildNumber, DateTime buildDate, string projectName)
2            {
3                try
4                {
5                    ProjectConfiguration config = (ProjectConfiguration)ConfigurationManager.GetSection("ProjectConfiguration");

Getting Started with CI

I know I might be in the wrong section, so feel free to move my post.

Though I used TFS (for .net) and Hudson (for Java and PHP) I never set up and administered a continuous integration server.

Knowing all the benifits of such, and having some long term plans, I'd like to get my hands dirty and set up an CI environment on a spare box at home (with Win Server 2008).

However I'm unsure which direction to go.  I can get any MS software (bizspark) so TFS seems like an obvious way to go.  But have had recommendations of using SVN and other tools I cant even remember the names.

Pretty much want source control (checking code in and out), automated builds and tests to run with builds (with notification emails).

Any advice, pointers and such?

I was about to get myself a TFS book, but figured I'd ask around first a bit.
