Percent of Total Calculation with Mixed Static and Dynamic Groups

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Ok, here's one I'm really struggling with.  I have a report that has two dynamic row groups and three dynamic column groups that are nested beneath static column groups.  It looks similar to this:

                                                  Market Share                  Discharges                           LOS

                                                Column Group1               Column Group2               Column Group3

Row Group1  Row Group2       &

Menu with Static and Dynamic Menu Items

I need to populate a menu with static and dynamic (at runtime) menu items.  I know this issue has been posted before, but I haven't seen anything with a date newer than 2009. This is what I want to do: <Menu> <Menu.ItemsSource>                     <CompositeCollection>                      <MenuItem Header="Menu Item 1" /> <MenuItem Header="Menu Item 2" /> <MenuItem Header="Menu Item 3" />                         <CollectionContainer Collection="{Binding MyMenuItems}" />                     </CompositeCollection> </Menu.ItemsSource> </Menu>   The posts every where say the issue is that CompositeCollection is not freezable.  Regardless of that arguement, has anyone come up with a good solution.  I don't want to create it all in code behind because it is a decent size menu with separators, etc.  This seems like something that should have been fixed or have a decent work round by now.   Thanks.

Static and Dynamic Resources with Brush and Resource Dictionary

Hi, We're using a huge resource dicionary with all the styles and templates for our controls. Some of these are the images that we use for some buttons and icons in the application. As far as I know, Static and Dynamic resources have nothing to do with the ResourceDictionary and The Brush, i could use any of them, if i need the resource to load only when needed i could use dynamic and if i want it to load on initialization time i should use Static. But everytime i try to use a static resource to define a Fill of a rectangle my application crashes on initialization time (when it exectues the InitializeComponents). The resource i'm using is a DrawingBrush that is declared on my resource dictionary and the only way i could make it works is defining it as DynamicResource. What is the limitation? Its realy impossible to define a static resource on a fill property, and if its realy impossible, why?

Percent of Total for Each Member in a Dimension Across Another Dimension

I've got a particularly nasty problem that I've been pounding my head against that I hope someone has encountered and can help me with.  I have a hospital cube that has a Hospital dimension and a Service Line Dimension (among others).  Service Lines are such things like General Medical, Surgical, Cardiology (there are 16 total).  Each member hospital in the Hospital dimension will have Discharges associated with each Service Line.  I'm trying to construct a percent of total calculation for each Hospital and Service Line, so I can look at the percent of total of each Service Line across Hospitals.  I'm trying to create a report in SSRS based off this cube.  Here's what the dimensions look like:

Hospital Name1 General Medical
           Surgical
           Cardiology
Hospital Name2 General Medical
           Surgical
           Cardiology
Hospital Name3 General Medical
           Surgical
           Cardiology

What I want to do is calculate the percent of total of each hospital's Service Lines, using the total for each Service Line across hospitals.  This will show the contribution of a Service Line at a specific Hospital to the overall total for that Service Line for all Hospitals.  Here's the MDX I've been working with that does not work the way I want:

SQL 2008 R2 Dynamic Ports and Static Ports

We have a single application (Interaction) that needs the port number specified in the application itself in order to 'talk' to its SQL database. The SQL environment consists of a two node cluster with two named instances. Each of the instances are divided equally between the nodes. We are obviously using dynamic ports on both of our names instances. I gave the application owner the port that the instance the database is currently running on. He hasn't gotten back to me yet, however, I suspect that when he specifies that port in the application it will connect to the database just fine. If it does, I need to come up with a plan for this one application.

Is there a way to use both dynamic ports with a static port specified? In the TCP/IP properties under the instance name, dynamic ports are used because the 'TCP Dynamic Ports' is set to '0'. Can I set it to something like '0,5100'? That way it'll still use dynamic ports with a specific port to always listen on? It seems like a stretch, but I'd rather not change my whole environment due to one silly application.

Another solution is to maybe create another instance for this one application and set the port statically? That's also very silly in my opinion to have a dedicated instance with only one database to set a static port. If anyone has any other creative ideas, besides just using the

TopCount dynamic named set + "Others" and "Grand Total"

After going through all available posts, unfortunately I could not find a solution for my problem. I have to create a dynamic named set of with TopCount in a cube that will be accessed with excel 2007. This how the outcome should look like:

Brand_A        $50.00

Brand_Z        $40.00

Brand_B        $10.00

Others           $200.00

Grand Total   $300.00

This is the MDX I used which gives me the top 3 but not the "Others" and the "Grand Total." Just to keep it simple I used top 3 Brands.

CREATE DYNAMIC SET CURRENTCUBE.[Top 3 Brands]
 AS
  TopCount
  (
    [NDD].[Brand].[Brand].Members,
    3,
    [Measures].[Sales]
    )

, DISPLAY_FOLDER = 'Sets';

Now I am stuck here. After reviewing many posts it seems that Excel 2007 has some issues with handling sets. I found two possible solutions from Raymond-Lee which I think may work.

Solution 1 - Use a named query in dsv

Solution 2 - create a dummy "Others"

Add total in group footer for calculation with multiplication and sum

Not sure if the topic title clarifies my problem correctly but this is what I'm trying to achieve:
I have a simple report, an overview of different projects grouped by accounts. Every project shows the revenue, the costs and the profit.
I want to have a total of all 3 colums, both in group footer as in the table footer. I know how to do a simple Sum(Fields!revenue.Value) but my calculation is a bit more complicated:

=(Fields!new_afstand.Value*Fields!new_kilometervergoeding.Value)+Fields!new_kostenvoorbereidingaccount.Value+Fields!new_kostentrainingaccount.Value+Fields!new_kostenoverigeaccount.Value+Fields!new_kostenoverigeaccount2.Value+Fields!new_kostenoverigeaccount3.Value

Basicly this adds up: Transportation cost (km*cost/km) + Preperation cost + Project Cost + Multiple other costs
The formula itself works perfectly.

Now when I have 3 projects with an account, I want to know the total. I've tried the following:
- =Sum(Formula)
- =Sum(km*cost/km) + Sum(Preperation cost + Sum(Project Cost) + Sum(MultipleOtherCosts)
- =Sum(ReportItems!textbox2.Value)

But either I get errors, or the total is incorrect because of the multiplication. The problem is I need to mulitplie km*cost/km first and not Sum(km)*Sum(Cost/km) because than the total is incorrect.

Is there someone who sees a solution for my problem?

Thank

Needing a Total based on a dynamic total in a column grouping

Hi, Please help

I am using RS2008
I have a Tablix with a row grouping by Location and a row field Totalling the current employee count for that state

I have three adjacent columns grouping by Month, based on what month is selected in the multivalue-parameter, one column returns back number of employees joined for those months. second column how many left for those month. The third column the total headcount for those months

FOR Example if the parameter selected was Jan, Feb, March, the below would be returned

                                 JOIN                   LEFT                  HEADCOUNT
CURRENT      Jan  Feb March         Jan Feb March         Jan Feb March
WA     15              2    3    4        &nbs

SQL Server (2005 to latest) - Change dynamic port to static TCP port 1433 automatically

Hello All !

By default, when I install SQL Server (from 2005 to the lastest), the TCP port 1433 is not set to 1433 on the network interfaces (see with SQL Server Configuration manager - Network Connections - TCP/IP enable - properties - IPAll).

Many of applications use this 1433 port. I want to change this port automatically, after installation and disable dynamic ports

How can I do this with a powershell script ? or by Transact-SQL ?

Thanks for advance for your ideas / help - Regards - Have a nice day ! RHUM2

Adding Dynamic Rows in ASP.NET GridView Control with TextBoxes and with Delete functionality

In my previous examples, I have demonstrated on how to add dynamic rows in GridView control with TextBoxes and how to save the values into the database. Now, seems that most of the developers are asking if how to add a delete functionality with it. So in this example, I'm going to show on how to delete a certain row in the dynamic GridView with TextBoxes.

Dynamic Data Templates in GridView ASP.NET 3.5

At a high level, Dynamic Data Templates can be seen as a system to very quickly build up a User Interface linked with the relevant data model, immediately enabling you to perform CRUD operations (Create, Read, Update, Delete) on the database using the specified data source. They provide a powerful method for building up these kinds of applications, and I'm going to focus on an overview of what Dynamic Data Templates actually are, and a few ways of customizing them to suit industry needs.

ASP.NET 4.0 Dynamic Data and Many to Many Entity Framework Entities

I did not play much with Dynamic Data controls in VS2008 and just made a cool discovery in VS2010 Beta 2. This may not even be new, but as I'm sitting 30,000+ feet over the Atlantic ocean, I don't have access to VS2008 at the moment to check.

Static Class for Beginners

In general, the members of a class can be accessed by instance of that class when they are in public, but there comes a situation to access or call members of a class without an instance and this can be achieved by declaring them as static

RadioButton Groups, Table Rows And NamingContainers in asp.net

The RadioButtonList. Very handy for inviting users to select just one item from a list although because of the screen real estate it takes up, used less and less in favour of the DropDownList. In plain HTML, the browser knows to enforce the unique selected value amongst a list of radio buttons because they all have the same value for their name attributes.

(In which AJAX-enhanced CheckBoxes become more useful than RadioButtons but inheritance saves the day, and a simple RadioButton-derived control establishes the purpose of a control's naming container)

Dynamic Systems Development Model (DSDM) Methodology

The Dynamic Systems Development Model was developed in the U.K. in the mid-1990s. It is the evolution of rapid application development (RAD) practices. DSDM boasts the best-supported training and documentation of any of the agile software development techniques, at least in Europe. DSDM favors the philosophy that nothing is built perfectly the first time and looks to software development as an exploratory endeavor.

Adding Dynamic Rows in GridView with TextBoxes

I decided to write this article because this has been asked so many times before at the forums(http://forums.asp.net) . Basically, this example shows on how to generate a Row in GridView with TextBoxes when clicking a Button that is residing inside a GridView Footer.
