Report Server change

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hello All Experts,

In my live server we have total nos of approx 200 reports and 50 email subscriptions created by us.

Now we are planning to change our existing hardware configuration and due to some other reasons, now the current live server we will not use in future, In view of same we want to move our all our reports and email subscription to other new server and that new server will be our next live server.

Now the problem is that i have 50 email subscription which i have created in old server so how can i move this subscription to new server ?

Reports can be deployed to new server by taking the backup. Is there any other concern in such situtation?

Please suggest me and any other feedback regarding the same.

Regards,
AKM

A connection could not be made to the report server http://localhost/ReportServer.

Hi,

  • I created a Report using Business Intelligence Studio. Its working working well, i can able to view records. But when i try to deploy the report an error occurs specifying that "A connection could not be made to the report server http://localhost/ReportServer. (Microsoft Report Designer)".
  • I open the IIS 7 and find out virtual directories "Reports" and "ReportServer" are available.
  • I check on the browser and type "http://localhost/reports".  I find the browser direct to this url: http://localhost/reports/Pages/Folder.aspx and find error specifying the following one:

         Error:The report server is not responding. Verify that the report server is running and can be accessed from this computer.

  • when i type http://localhost/reportmanager, i found the error:

    HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found

    The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

Data Points: Report Controls in SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services

Reporting has always been one of the dark arts of development. The tools typically seem to do just enough to get you to a certain point, then leave you to find workarounds to solve more complex issues.

Virus Hunting: Track and Report Server Attacks Quickly and Easily with the .NET Networking Classes

To help stop the spread of worms, viruses, and other hostile activity, it is important to track down and report the servers used in these attacks along with those used to send spam. Many Web administrators, however, don't take the time to track them because the manual process can be quite cumbersome. The Microsoft .NET Framework comes to the rescue with several networking classes, including the Dns class and the TcpClient class, that abstract away the complexity of performing DNS and WHOIS lookups. These classes make it easy to create a simple, straightforward ASP.NET-based utility for performing these lookups and automating this very important task.

Cannot export from a Report in SharePoint integrated mode in a server hardend environment

We have installed Reporting Services 2008 integrated with MOSS with SQL Server 2008 on a 64 bit platform.

The environment has worked fine in test (but the servers are not hardend).

With the production environment, any attempt to export from a report into another format (eg excel, tiff etc) results in an unexpected error within SharePoint requiring closing the browser and reopening.

There are no details behind the error. We can also find no traces of the error within any of the logs (SharePoint, Reporting Services, Windows event log etc)

When the report is opened directly from Reporting Services (ie http://servername:8080/reportserver) the report exports fine. Similarly, if the report is opened directly from Report Builder 2, or through opening Report Builder 2 from SharePoint there is no issue. This issue only happens when the report is invoked directly through SharePoint.

We can only assume that this issue has something to do with server hardening/UAC as we have

Report server URL accessible with Firefox But not with IE 8

I configured reporting services integrated with Share Point. I can able to access the report server URL using firefox. But, i am unable to browse to the URL using IE. Anyone, please shed some light on this. I can able to access URL in IE by using IP address:

Example : [Firefox]

http://systemname/reportserver      {accessible}

Example : [Internet Explorer]

http://systemname/reportserver      {Not accessible}

http://IPADDRESS/reportserver    {accessible}

Thanks,

Gautam

MSSQL 2008 R2: Change Server Collation Steps, with user DBs already of desired collation

On the default instance of SQL Server 2008 R2, I want to change the server collation from the usual US default SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS to an application vendor's required collation, Latin1_General_BIN.  I understand that changing the server collation is essentially the same as changing the collation of databases master and model -- is that a fair statement? But my main question is, since there are user databases on the server that I would like to preserve, can I not simply detatch the user DBs prior to performing the server collation change, and then reattach?  The database collation of the user databases is already set to Latin1_General_BIN.  This article, Setting and Changing the Server Collation, at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179254.aspx says that to preserve the user databases, I should script all DB objects out, and bulk-copy all data out, because the DBs will have to be recreated and repopulated.  Can someone explain why I ought not simply detach and reattach the user DBs, given that they are already of the desired collation (i.e., the same collation that I will be changing the server collation to)? Your help much appreciated. -Tom

SQL Server Compact loses change tracking anchors when copied to device

I have a device app that use SQL Compact and uses sync framework to synchronize to a SQL Server 2008 instance.  In order to speed up the initial synchronization of my device app, I'm creating the database (.sdf) using the sync framework on the server based on the suggestion in this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd938879.aspx#HandlingInitialSynchronizationandExpiredSubscriptions Then I get it via a WCF service down to the device app.  I'm able to download the db and it has data.  When I sync however, the database doesn't seem to think it is syncronized.  It seems to have lost it's anchors.   The following code returns an anchor for my State table on the server, but not after copying it to the device. Any suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks FPASQLCeClientSyncProvider).GetTableReceivedAnchor("State")

report viewer error / visual web developer 2008 / sql server 2008 / report viewer add on / win7 x64

hi, i decided to export my local site to iis today, the process wasn't smooth.   anyway. i was able to access my site, the db tables are working as i am able to create new records and retrieve them. my main problem now is with the report object. i've tried the work around found here : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2002980.. it helped sort of. i used to have only a big page of error before i did the work around, now i am able to see half of the report (the report interface) but the contents, the field are filled with 404 errors. any idea how i can fix this??

Coloring sql reporting services report depending on the change of value of a certain field

Hey guys, I have an SSRS report that looks something like this: Column1 Column2 Row1 2 A Row2 2 B Row3 2 C Row4 6 A Row5 11 E How can I color the rows with the same value in Column1 with the same color? for example Row1 to Row3 would have one color, Row4 would have a different color, then I'd go back to Row1's color for Row5? note: I don't know in advance the numbers returned in Column1. I query for them and then I hide them from the user so Column1 shouldn't show on the report, but I want to use it for the coloring only.

Cannot add SQL Server 2008 R2 Report items to SharePoint Server 2010 document library

Using account which is the primary parent site administrator, can upload RDS and RDL files to the document library (however, cannot open report). User is also a domain admin with SA on the database instances. Cannot add Report Data Source with "New Document" icon. The permissions granted to user '[domain]\[user]' are insufficient for performing this operation. Under "Site Settings", "Managed Shared Schedules" fails with same error. Attempting to deploy from BIDS results in the same permissions error. Sharepoint Server 2010, Report Server 2008 R2. RS and SP databases hosted on remote server (SQL Server 2008 R2). All connections (SharePoint services, RS services, users) except SQLAgent authenticating to remote SQL Server with Kerberos (all SPNs look correct). Single site, site collection "/". Document directory called "Reports". Windows Integrated Security (Negotiate). How would I troubleshoot/solve problem?

Report server cache vs RAM

Hello, When report server executes a huge report(or any small or big report), it consumes some amout of RAM available on the server box. Once the report is completely executed, does it releases the RAM that it used for report execution? Does RAM goes to the original level after complete report execution? When the report is cached, does this cache memory something different from the available RAM on the server box? If so, from where this cache memory comes from? Regards.
