Display Related Data in an ASP.NET GridView

Typically when you display a datagrid you will want to show data from a related table. There are 3 different ways to accomplish this with NetTiers. You can use a custom stored procedure, deepload functionality from the code behind, or a strongly typed datasource control. We'll provide an example of each

How do I display excel, pdf and word binary data in a gridview?

Hello forum

I'm using the following code to upload images, pdf files, word files and excel to a sql table as binary data.  However, I can only figure out how to display the images but am clueless about the other type of files.  What adjustments do I need to make so that with a button click I can access the other files?  't By the way, I'm using an image control to display the binary data and I'm aware that that will only work to display images, I just don't how to access all the other types of files once uploaded. Thanks

Customizing GridView to display and edit boolean data

Hello,

I'm quite new to ASP.NET programming, so excuse me if my question is dumb.

I have the need of showing a grid (A GridView ?)  of boolean values. But instead of showing checkboxes, I want to show the cells filled with black (value is true) or white (value is false). I understand I can do that by crafting a TemplateField and changing the style of the cell to select the correct background color and never displaying an actual value. I have not tried but I think it could work. The grid will contains 99% of boolean values and will contain something like 20 rows of 100 columns (2000 cells).

Now I would like to have that grid edited in place at client side, that is with JavaScript, changing the style of the cell when the user clicks on the cell. There would be a submit button somewhere to postback the whole thing.

Is that possible ? Any hint for programming it ?

Since I have a lot of webforms which needs to display that kind of grid, I would like to go further and design a custom GridView (or other control) that I could install in the toolbox and reuse easily.

Any help appreciated.

Editing the Data in a GridView

In addition to deleting a GridView's underlying data, another common need is to allow end users to edit the data displayed in a GridView. With ASP.NET 1.x's DataGrid control, editing the data is certainly possible, but requires creating three event handlers and writing a dozen or so lines of code. With the GridView and ASP.NET 2.0, it is possible to create an editable GridView without writing a single line of code! All of the necessary functionality is encapsulated within the GridView.

The GridView allows editing on a row-by-row basis. An editable GridView contains an additional column with an Edit button in each row. When the end user clicks on an Edit button that row becomes editable, causing the Edit button to change to Update and Cancel buttons and the other columns to become TextBoxes. The end user can then update one or more column values and click Update to save their changes.

GridView inline Master/Detail record display

This code drop is part of a smash and grab series. If you're in a rush, you can just grab this code and insert it into your application, no understanding is required. When you have some time (ya, right) you may want to review the source code.

GridView control to show master-child or master-slave data, written in c#, asp.net

I previously made a master slave datagrid using Visual Studio 2003 .Net (original article) that would allow users to show data to clients using collapse and expand features. These features however did not carry over to gridview for many users. This tutorial will explaing how to create a collapsable/expandable gridview in frameworks 2.0 and higher

Easily manipulate data with the GridView control in ASP.NET 2.0

Last week, I introduced ASP.NET 2.0's GridView data control and covered the basics of using it. This week, I go a step further by going into the details of working with the data contained in the control. This includes viewing, editing, and deleting data. Thankfully, the GridView control makes it easy to utilize these features. Before diving into these topics, I begin with an examination of the different field types supported by the GridView control.

Sorting Data in a GridView Web Server Control

The GridView control provides built-in sorting functionality without requiring any coding. You can further customize the sort functionality of the GridView control by using custom SortExpression property values for columns as well as by using the Sorting and Sorted events

Rendering data with HTML tags in the DD Gridview for a selected column

I am having trouble finding out where and how to HTML Encode a cell's data on the Dynamic Data (v4.0) gridview of List.aspx.  As a simple case, suppose I have formatted cell data that is A<br/>B in the DB.    Obviously, I want A stacked on B in the cell.

It seems gridView1.HtmlEncode = true has gone away.

So maybe I'll try to catch it on the RowDataBound event:

protected void GridView1_RowDataBound(Object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)

        {
            if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
            {
                // Html Encode the cells
            }

        }

but this event never fires?

Has anyone figured out how to properly render HTML tags data in the List.aspx's GridView1?

If I figure this out, then I can add a MetaAttribute called something like [EncodeAsHtml(true)] and be on my way.  Thanks!
