Lookup conditional caching possible? or flush cache as data changes?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi Forum

Is there any way to switch caching setting on the lookup up component on-the-fly? I have a lot of lookup components that I want to use full caching setting - some times I know that there will not be a lot of data - so N lookups or partial caching would be better. I could indicate this by using a variable  - I could use a conditional split to make 2 paths - I could make 2 different lookup components but these two cannot point to the next task in the flow since it seams that all data flow task only take one input path.

I could really also use a way to flush the cache when ever a row value changes. In this way I could order the data by Company, and have it use full caching but flush the cache whenever the company id changes. Is this in any way possible?

Thank you in advance

Jay

Data flow - Conditional lookup possible?

In my data flow I use a Lookup component to check if the row already exists in the data warehouse. I insert the row in the No Match output path and update in the Match path.

In the initial load it is a waiste to have a lookup for each row - I know the rows are not there. Is there a way to skip the lookup?

Ideal case (As I see it):
Initial load - No lookup which also means no index on business key in destination table, giving faster inserts as well
Diff load (Dest table might have 2 mill rows) - Lookup on index of business key

I have set a variable to Inital load - but I can't see how I can use the Conditional split - because I can find no way for 2 paths to point to the task after my lookup.

Hope someone can help.

Using Conditional Split data Transfer in SSIS 2008

This article uses the Integration Services Conditional Split Data Transformation element to filter and transfer data from a set of flat text files to SQL Server database table. The concept can be easily extended to apply to any other source or destination such as Microsoft Excel. This scenario is useful in creating denormalized database tables in a reporting and analysis situation.

Data caching c#.net

Hi Friends,

I have a large SQL Database in the server from which I can create a dataset of about 10000 rows. My question is about caching this data. Which type of data caching should I choose (Server side or Client side)? Which one will provide better performance?

Thanks in advance

Web Farms: Use Data Caching Techniques to Boost Performance and Ensure Synchronization

Performance is an important concern for any application, but becomes critical when the app is a Web Service accessed by thousands of clients simultaneously. One hardware approach to distributing Web Services requests evenly is a Web farm consisting of multiple servers. Once on a Web farm, Web Service performance can be improved by using ADO.NET DataSet objects to cache frequently accessed data, reducing round-trips to the database. Here the author describes data caching in a Web farm environment and discusses how to avoid the cross-server synchronization problems inherent in this approach.

BDC Entity as a Data Source for a Lookup column

Is it possible to create a custom lookup field type to have a BDC entity as the data source?

Paste data in a lookup column

Hi all, I am trying to create a Sharepoint list from a previous Excel file and I would like to use a lookup column, to allow users to pick values of “column B” from “column A”. The values are already entered in "column A", so now I would like to edit the list in datasheet view and copy/paste the values from my excel file into my “column B”. It works well when I copy/paste only one data, but when I try to paste several values in the same row (using a semicolon as delimiter), I get the error message “Cannot paste the copied data due to data types mismatches or invalid data.”, although the column is set to allow multiple values. I noticed that lookup columns allowing mulitple values store items with the item ID, as follows: ITEM NAME;#ITEM ID, but don’t display it in datasheet view or standard view, and I guess this is why I can’t copy and paste the data from my excel file since they don’t have the ID encoded, but is it possible to do it anyway? Thanks for your help.

Unable to load data into a LookUp column in sharepoint using sharepoint destination

I have loaded details of a customer on a list and was able to load the data with out any problem using sharepoint list destination. We have a lookup column called customerid looking at customer list  . This lookup column is in another list, called Customer Main, so I am trying to load additional data for customer in this customer Main  list which contains a lookup column called customerID. I was not able to load data into this cutsomerid, whereas rest of the data is coming into sharepoint with out any problem. How should I load data into a lookup column. Thanks

In data view web part - how to display document name with link that opens lookup document rather tha

I have a list with a lookup column to create relationships with documents in a separate library. I am creating a data view web part to display each item in the list. One of the fields I want to display is the document field (the lookup column). I want this to be in the form of the related document's name with link to directly open the source document itself (Word, PPT, ...). Now I am only managing to display the document name linked to opening the document's display form of the related document library, and then I have to click the document's name there to open it. Alas one unnecessary click too many. Any wize tips? Henning

Caching in WCF Data Services on Azure

I want to enable output caching in my OData service on Azure but I can't get it to work. It doesn't even have to be Velocity or any other distributed caching provider. I just want simple output caching. It can be as simple as the one Scott is talking about over here. I haven't got that example to work though and it seems that other ppl commenting on his article have the same problem as me: getting fresh data all the time. Please guide me

XSL Lookup to another List in a View. Joining in data from another List. xsl:value-of select=

I've been able to create a DataView with data joined from two SP Lists. I did this using SPD, a linked Source, and doing joined subviews.  The technique works nicely, but I have to create my DataView from scratch. As an alternative, I took an existing AllItems View in SPD, converted it to XSL, and was able to add a column from another List as follows:   <TD Class="{$IDA1VDGH}" style="width: 62px; height: 23px"><xsl:value-of select="/dsQueryResponse/Master/Rows/Row/@Lastname" />The problem is, it reports the column for the first row everytime. I'm new to XSL and was wondering..    using XSL, and preserving all the original columns already in the View, is there anyway to make the added column smarter, maybe with a filter?I noticed in my working example, I have this filter (I guess where the subview join magic is)            [@Title = $dvt_ParentRow/@Key] which does not resolve syntax:I tried this, but it does not work, only finding one match, and it also seems to get set for the entire Dataview and not just the column.     [../../../Master/Rows/Row/@Title = @Key] I guess I'm looking either for the SPD steps, or XSL code for adding a single column from another list, joined in by a column in both lists. Thanks for any help or information.

Applying conditional formatting to the 'AssignedTo' column does not work in a data view using Shar

This one is throwing me for a loop.  I've joined two lists using "Linked Sources" in SharePoint Designer.  On a new ASPX page I added a data view and added 3 columns (Title, Priority and AssignedTo) as a multi-Item view.   I can select a row and apply conditional formatting to the Title field (changing the background color if @title = 'Parent 1') and the changes are displayed in the design pane.   The only oddity there is that I have to go back and edit the condition in advanced mode, changing the XPath expression from ../../../Rows/Row/@Title = 'Parent 1' to @Title = 'Parent 1'  and then it seems to work just fine. Here's the problem.  I want the condition applied to the AssignedTo column (hide row if 'AssignedTo != 'John Doe')  If I create a condition to hide contents if the AssignedTo = 'John Doe' it creates the XPath expression ../../../Rows/Row/@AssignedTo = 'John Doe'.  When I save it, the row is still visible.  If I edit the XPath expression, changing it to @AssignedTo = 'John Doe' and save it the row is still visible.  The same is true if I simply try to change the background color, conditionally formatted  against the AssignedTo column. Does anyone have any ideas here?
