Sharepoint Designer and Foundation version mismatch error

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

The company I am employed by has been running SharePoint 2010 successfully for several months now. Recently when anyone attempts to edit our main site using SharePoint designer they are prevented from doing so an given the following error message: "Server Error: The version of Microsoft SharePoint Foundation running on the server is more recent than the version of SharePoint Designer you are using. You need a more recent version of SharePoint Designer". We are running the most recent version that we can find available for download from Microsoft. The server administrator has attempted to roll back the most recent patches / updates to SP Foundation, rebooted the site collection, tried a fresh install of Designer and other obvious common solutions to no avail.

This is a massive impediment to our continued development of this product. How do we resolve this problem?

Error creating Read Item or Read List operation in Sharepoint Designer 2010

In terms of high-level requirements, I need to pull in lists from a couple of different web apps.  To do this, I’m using SPD 2010 to create an External Content Type for the list of interest.  I’m able to create a SOAP Service or WCF Service connection just fine.  However, when I try to create the external content type and create a Read Item Operation on one of the GetList or any other Get* (or other Update methods for that matter) methods, I get the following error:"The method that your operation is based on has parameters with complex types that do not have default parameterless constructor.  This kind of data source methods cannot be used in Business Data Catalog."I tried defining an operation on the “AddAttachment” method, and that worked just fine.  I also tried providing default values to the listName and viewName parameters when creating the SOAP Service connection, but still get the error.  Same issue with a WCF Service connection as well. Does anyone know if this is a 2010 issue, or am I approaching this requirement incorrectly?  What are other approaches for connecting to lists that reside in a different web app than yours?

Error in SharePoint Designer when converting to XSL

While using SharePoint Designer, I attempt to convert a web part "list view"  to XSL and i get the error:  "The server returned a non-specific error when trying to get data from the data source.  Check the format and content of your query and try again.  If the problem persists, contact the server administrator."  Was able to convert this same web part a week ago, and now I am getting this error.  I have restarted all of the servers and still receive this error.  The only thing I can think of is that there might be an issue with having too much data in the list.  Any ideas?

Error customizing Approval Workflow in SharePoint Designer

When attempting to customize OOTB Approval Workflow, message "Workflow is read only?"  Request copy errors with "Server could not complete your request" Details button produces blank.  Any clue?  I am the site collection administrator for the site and the secondary farm administrator.

Microsoft.NET version 3.0 Install Error: Installation failed for Windows Communication Foundation. M

Please help! I've been trying for the last day and a half to properly install Microsoft.NET version 3.5 so that I can install TurboTax and do my taxes. I was only on version 1.1. Multiple tries to upgrade to 3.5 was giving me a code 1603 error on install on "Microsoft.NET version 2.0a". I followed advice from forums here and elsewhere to uninstall and reinstall my prior versions. I also used Windows Install Cleanup before reinstalling. I keep getting to the same result when I try to go from version 2.0 to version 3.5. In my last attempt, I went all the way back to version 1.0 and installed each step up to 2.0 SP1 with (allegedly) no problems. This last time I decided to upgrade to 3.0 instead of going right to 3.5. Now I get the following error message: [04/03/10,04:07:14] Windows Communication Foundation: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Windows Communication Foundation. Unable to load External list in Sharepoint Foundation - error due to trial period expired

I've created an external content type and external list on Sharepoint Foundation. Everything is OK when creating and viewing these items in create mode in sharepoint designer. When trying to view the external list in the browser I get error message "Unable to display this Web Part..." When I opened the same list in the mobile view url I get a more descriptive error message: "The shim execution failed unexpectedly - The trial period for this product has expired.." I have read and followed the instruction related to this thread concerning expired trial period bug, and iisreseted the server after change but I still can't display the list. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010setup/thread/644ab342-4eaa-468c-95c1-f345a4f65f26#644ab342-4eaa-468c-95c1-f345a4f65f26 Any ideas anyone??

Error - The evaluation period for this version of SharePoint Portal Server has Expired

I am using SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and in the app log I'm seeing this error "The evaluation period for this version of SharePoint Portal Server has Expired" which I believe is causing the search service to not work and I can no longer sign in to the SP central admin console. While I did not perform the install myself it has been running for over a year and according to MS the SP PS 2003 eval was only 120 days so I assume the full version was installed.  Any idea's? There are a couple more errors in the event log but I assume they are symptoms and not causes. SharePoint Designer Error - Unexpected error on server associating the workflow

I am creating a multistep workflow with multiple Approval steps.  When I get to step 7 or the 7th Approval step and try to publish it, it states that "Errors were found when compiling the workflow.  The workflow files were saved but cannot be run."  With "Unexpected error on server associating the workflow" in the advanced section.  This same error occurs at other stages of the approvals as well.  If I put another process/action in the step, the workflow runs without any problem.  Thanks for the help! After Installing SharePoint Foundation 2010, trying to open site gives 404 error in browser

I had this as reply on a thread about migrating from WSS 3.0 to SFS 2010. But I have completed all the steps with the modified documentation, but the browser delivers an error 404 when I try to open the site I created.  Same thing happens if I go at it via https, but first I get a certificate warning error (using the IP instead of the FQDN) and then being prompted for credentials.

I am completely stumped at what else to look at.  Any help in gathering information to get help is also appreciated.

Environment:  SBS 2008, SFS 2010, SQL Express 2008.  Rest of the IIS sites continue to function normally and I can get to the management site ok.  Although after the install, I had to go into application pool and change the service account from the domain admin (it defaulted to that) to networkservice account, otherwise I got a 503.  Same thing happened on the site I created until I changed the service account.  Now just a 404.

SharePoint Designer 2007 - Customize List View - Error when saving view ASPX page

We have a custom list definition that includes custom site columns.  When we try to open one of the list view aspx pages in SharePoint to update the view query we get an error when trying to save the page in SharePoint Designer 2007.  We receive a warning that the operation will customize the page from the site definition, which is fine.  And then get a general "Server error: ServiceRequestorID" alert.  ServiceRequestorID is a custom site column used by the list definition.

ServiceRequestorID field definition:

<Field ID="{FA39D24D-AB40-4b1d-BD80-94ABE34A7578}" Name="ServiceRequestorID" DisplayName="Service Requestor ID" StaticName="

Your backup is from a different version of Microsoft SharePoint Foundation -- Sharepoint 2010

I made a backup of SharePoint farm from 2010 and tried to restore on a dev server and kept getting this error.  I looked at the versions of SharePoint on both servers, and they were identical:  14.0.4763.1000

I'm posting this although it is not a question, but a statement that might help someone else.  It took a while to notice that there had been an upgrade on the original server that the new dev box did not yet have... not an SP, but more like a hotfix type upgrade.

In Central Admin, go to "Upgrade and Migration".  Click on "Check product and patch installation status".  Scroll down the page of results and see if there are any links to updates that have been installed on the original server that are not on the new server, or vice-versa.  I did find a link on my original server.  Clicking on it opened the update page, so I copied the URL, went to my dev server, opened that page and installed the update, and voila!
