SQL User Permission (No answer found by searching)

Hello all!   I'm hoping someone will be able to answer my simple question!   Previously, I've run the below script to give one user access to their db in SQL management studio but nothing else. use [someDB] -- use the real db name go sp_changedbowner 'theUser' -- use the new username go 4. Next, deny the new user "public" access to ALL databases: use master go deny VIEW any DATABASE to theUser go   However I now need to add an additional user with view on permissions to the database and can't figure out how to do it. I'm sure it's simple but my SQL knowledge is at a low level.   Many thanks, Lee.

User Profile Service - "The specified user or domain group was not found"

Hi there, I had configured the User Profile Service and all was working well (Syncing with AD etc.). However, something has gone wrong. The services still appear to be running; both Forefront Identity Manager services are running, and the services show as 'Started' in Central Administration. The 'My Profile' and 'My Site' options have disappeared though, and browsing to the My Sites page results in an error (Could not load user profile). To make matters much worse, it seems to have also broken the Central Administration site. If I try and go to 'Manage Service Applications' I get another error (The specified user or domain group was not found). This error seems to come up on around half of the pages on the Central Administration site. Looking up the error (abb6b174-0f71-413a-a27a-41cdc87b66d0) in the logs I find this: 09/06/2010 15:35:45.44  w3wp.exe (0x0868)                        0x06A0 SharePoint Portal Server       User Profiles                  cm6y High     User Profile Application Proxy failed to retrieve partitions from User Profile Application: Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserProfileA

Loop until a string match is found

Hi,I have a column in a table which contains a string of data (about 2000 characters in length). this particular column data may have multiple occurances of an Order number. I will have to find out each one of these and insert them as a separate row in another table. I'm not quite sure how to approach this.To make it clear, here's an example:Table_A has column called data_col.data_col has data :********TOP OF DATA***********some text Order# 1111111 some textsome text Order# 2222222 some textsome text Order# 3333333 some textsome more text********BOTTOM OF DATA***********each of these rows will have the header and footer called top of data & bottom of data. So , I was thinking of something like looping through until we hit "Bottom of Data", and get the 3 order#s into a separate tablebut I'm not sure how.Let me know if the question is not clear enough. Thanks

Unable to Customize Custom Lists. Sharepoint Error: User cannot be found.

I am not sure what the best way to put/describe my issue . I am unable to customize my custom list. Steps: 1. Login to sharepoint site. 2. Site Actions -> Site Settings 3. Under Site Administration -> Site Libraries and lists 4. Clicked on a custom list.   Error: Error User cannot be found.   Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation. Correlation ID: 4063bf58-9cb7-4204-8cc4-cc2889abffe3 Date and Time: 9/9/2010 5:51:58 PM   I figured this may be an issue with site permissions, so I have went into site permissions and removed and re-added Administrator into Homeowners group.   Thank you in advance.   Howie

STSADM userrole problem - 'User cannot be found'

I want to add a domain group to site collection with 'Full Control'. I am using below stsadm command:- stsadm -o userrole -url http://sharepoint/sites/sitecoltn -userlogin "Domain\<domain group>" -role "Full Control" -add http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262083(office.12).aspx (This is the MS article I refered). But i am getting message - 'User cannot be found'. When i try to add same domain group from Central Admin, I am able to add it. Can someone please help me on this?

SQL 2005: Error 15401 - Windows NT user or **group** not found

I have a fresh install of Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Standard Edition and SQL Server 2005 x64 on top of that, with Service Pack 3. This server, SERV, is in DOMAINA which trusts (one-way) DOMAINB.

When I try to create a login for a group in my domain, I get the following error:
Msg 15401, Level 11, State 1, Procedure sp_grantlogin, Line 49
Windows NT user or group 'DOMAINA\groupname' not found. Check the name again.

I get the same error whether using "create login [domaina\groupname] from widnows", "sp_grantlogin [domaina\groupname]" or Manangement Studio.
This happens ONLY for groups , both in DOMAINA and DOMAINB domains. I can add individual users from both A and B and local computer. For local computer groups: I can add default Windows groups (like Users, Guests, Event Log Readers) by [BUILTIN\Event Log Readers], etc. but not by SERV\Event Log Readers; for custom created group MyLocal it's the other way around: I can via SERV\MyLocal but not via BUILTIN\MyLocal.

If I add a domain group from either DOMAINA or DOMAINB to a local group, whether my own or builtin, I can login to SQL Server remotely using creditentials of a user who belongs to that group (user DOMAINB\ux belongs to DOMAINB\group and DOMAINB\group to SERV\MyLocal). After sp_grantlogin [serv\mylocal] of cours

Error: The specified user or domain group was not found.

Hi all,

So I am having this issue with SharePoint Central Administration. I am not able to get into many of the services within CA due to the above error. I have narrowed it down (I'm almost positive) to a user who was an administrator on the managed metadata service and is no longer with us and was removed from the AD. I have asked to have the account added back in, of course, we don't have the SID history. It was added and I used the stsadm cmdlet migrateuser -ignoresidhistory and I get the same exact error. I've tried this logged on as several diffeerent administrators including the domain administrator account and have received the same error.

Anyone have any ideas?

GetRoleCollectionFromUser() returns "User Not Found" 0x80131600 in Sharepoint 2007

I am using GetUserCollectionFromSite() to get the list of users for a site, and with the same list i am calling
GetRoleCollectionFromUser() using login Name i got from previous method. The method is returning a "User Not found" 0x80131600 error. I am the site collection admin for this site and even if i hard code my login name as Domain\UserName(NT ID in this case) i get this error. Please help.

This is in Sharepoint 2007

Calling the UserGroup.GetRoleCollectionFromUser returns "User cannot be found"

We're trying to call the standard SharePoint 2010 web service UserGroup.GetRoleCollectionFromUser. No matter what user we use to authenticate, the web service always returns the same error:
"User cannot be found"
Of course the user does exist and the user name has the form DOMAIN\user. Other methods of the UserGroup web service work fine. In particular, UserGroup.GetGroupCollectionFromUser() with the same user name returns the expected results.

This web service works fine on 2007, although the user privileges required to call it are somewhat unclear.

"User cannot be found" error when selecting "List Settings" for a list.

I have a simple custom list I created with two fields.  When I try connecting to the list's settings (the listedit.aspx page), I get a "User cannot be found" error.  I get this same error when I click on the workflow settings as well.  All other features of the list appear to be working normally.  There are a couple other lists in my site that exhibit this behavior, but the rest function normally.

The only recent change we made to the site was enabling an SSL certificate.  When my sys admin returns from vacation I'll have him disable SSL for testing purposes, but in the meantime has anyone come across a similar issue?

Sql 2008 on Windows 2008 domain error: windows nt user or group not found

I am running sql 2008 R2 and win 2008 R2 and simply trying to add a new domain user into sql, but I get the error above. What's weird is that when I do a check names from the add user or group window it finds the account I want to use. I've tried adding a different account, but I get the same issue--so its not the account. I've also tried running the create login t-sql command but it gives the same error. I've also tried disabling, via the gpedit.msc tool, the digitally encrypt or sign secure channel keys. But that did not work either.

People search (by GUID) giving 'User not found'

When I go to the people search off of our landing page, put in an account name, it returns the proper person and when you hit that link for the person, the resulting page gives 'User not found'. Specifically:

However, if you go to an item that has that exact same person in it (for instance to a list item and click on their 'Created By Joe Shmoe' link) it comes up just fine. Specifically:

So, when using the GUID, it doesn't show up and when using the account name for the Person.aspx page it works fine. When I go to the SSP hosting the mysites.etc.com and view the profiles, I can extract a proper GUID directly from the profile, replace it, and it works like a charm.

I've tried to do a detach and reattach of both the landing site and the MySite databases with no avail. Also note that I've done full imports of both the people search and the profiles across all SSP's and there is only one search crawl with the sps3://etc protocol.

"User cannot be found" error when creating My Site after upgrading to SP2 for MOSS 2007

Hope this is the place for sharepoint gurus?

I upgraded MOSS2007/WSS3 to SP2 and since then I have been unable to get My Site to create new sites for existing domain users.

Some of the domain users created their My Site before the SP2 upgrade and they still work. We just cannot create new My Sites for existing domain users.

Now when we try to create a My Site we get this error:

"There has been an error creating the personal site. Contact your site administrator for more information."

I checked the event logs and usually no error is recorded when this happens so sharepoint does not even give me a breadcrumb (thanks!).

However, on one occassion I did get an event message after fiddling here and there and many attempts at trying to create a My Site, hooray! See below for all the glorious details of the event message, but the basic error is:

"User cannot be found".

I have checked the My Site settings of shared services (SSP1), veiwed user profiles, all the domain users are imported. So I have no idea why when creating a My Site it fails?

I have searched many forums and although they get the same error it seems to be for different reasons so the solutions don't help my situation.

Is there somewhere in Sharepoint that these domain users need to exist? Would I be able to c
