Farm account has a MySite - should it be deleted?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

All,

While configuring Form Based User My Sites I discovered that the System and farm accounts have My Sites (in the Shared Service Provider).

This sounds like a bad practice and I should delete these My Sites. I did a few searches on the Web and didn't find any data about this...

Should I delete these My Sites or just leave them alone?

Thanks,

Jim

Central Administration no longer accessible by any account after changing Farm Account in SharePoint

I have a problem, that I no longer can access Central Administration Website, only the Sharepoint itself. I was running installation of Sharepoint 2010 Server with administrative account ImTheAdmin, who is a Domain Admin in the MYDOMAIN domain. Using ImTheAdmin I installed Sharepoint 2010 on one of the Windows 2008 R2 member servers. Besides that, I made ImTheAdmin the primary administrator of the Sharepoint. ImTheAdmin became the only user of this Sharepoint 2010 server after installation.  I installed everything on one box with default installation settings. I used builtin SQL server, not Standard or Enterprise. What then happened is: Using ImTheAdmin account, I opened Central Administration Website, and it said, that I need to change the Farm Account, as the account for Farm was the default one (I think it was network service). So I created a regular domain user in AD Users and Computers called MYDOMAIN\SPFarmAccount. Then using IE, I went to the Central Administration Website page, which is meant for changing farm account usernames. I put in MYDOMAIN\SPFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pressed Change. Browser worked for a while, and after that nothing seemed to work. Neither my Sharepoint, nor Central Administration website. When going to Central Administra

I thought, Windows 2000 is long gone, so I didn't pay much attention, I think everywhere the account SID is important. I don't know if that is the real problem with my failure later, but it might be one of the reasons. I put MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pre

Problems with Farm Account magically losing permissions to certain things

I don't know what's going on, but this has now happened two times in a row during my rebuild from TP to Beta (completely new build from the OS up).  I'm using the same service account (domain account) as my setup and farm account.  While logged in with my farm account, I install the SP2010 pre-reqs, then the bits, then give it dbcreator and securityadmin roles in SQL, then run the SPT wizard.  Within the wizard, I specify the same account as my farm account, and all works fine and dandy.  After it's done, I'm able to get into Central Admin with this same account and see/do everything.After working with things a while and following the MS instructions for getting the User Profile SA working, if I reboot or logout/login, then I suddenly don't have access to some very important things, such as:- System Settings > Manage Services on Server.  It just disappears completely- Security > Configure Service Accounts.  This does not disappear, but clicking on it causes a prompt saying "Error:Access Denied."  Previously, I was able to go in here and set my service accounts for things like search, user code service, etc (I set them to the proper service accounts)- Configuration Wizards > Launch Configuration Wizard.  I used this multiple times when getting my farm setup, but now it's gone.I've gone so far as to make my farm account all of these things:- Member of B

Same server farm administrator domain account for both Intranet and Internet Sharepoint site?

Hello,   We are planning to setup 2 streams of architecture for both Intranet and Internet web sites. Just wondering whether there is any best practices/security concerns if we are using the same domain account as the Server Farm Administrator for both Intranet and Internet platform?   Thanks,

Move MySite with stsadm backup from FARM A to FARM B within same Domain

Hi, I'd to move, with a series of "stsadm -o backup -url..." command, a lot of mySites from one Farm to another in the same Active Directory. Are there special Tasks after the "stsadm -o restore -newurl ..." command ? Can I handle MySite like a "normal" Team Sites ? I'm not sure what happen, for the Users after the new MySite URL become active (I hope it will not create a new empty one) ThanksTester

SharePoint Userprofile synchronize with mysite userinfo in different farm

I am using Sharepoint 2007.... we have 2 userprofiles 1 userprofile for my intranet application in Farm1 2nd Userprofile for mysite in Farm2 both the userprofiles fetch data from same AD.  Onclick of mysite user is redirected to mysite in farm2 which fetches userinfo from farm2 If user updates any Sharepoint information (like picture, about me these are not from AD but stores in Sharepoint userinfo table) from mysite this information is not updated in farm1 intranet sites, this is because both farms use different unserinfo tables   is there any way i can update my intranet farm1 userinfo table with mysite userinfo

not able to create a new web application with farm account

Hi

I installed sharepoint 2010 on windows 2008 R2 machine. I used the farm account to configure the farm as per the documentation. When i logged in to the central admin application using farm account, "New" button (to create a new web application) is disabled under "Manage Web applications".  farm account is not added to the administrator group of sharepoint server.

The "New" buttons gets enabled if i run "Internet explorer" as administrator. Please advise what could be the solution to fix this.

Change Farm Account?

Hello,

SharePoint 2010, I am trying to change the Farm Account. I made the change to a new farm account under Central Admin > Security > Configure Service Accounts. The change seems to have gone through, however, when I delete the old user account that was being used for the Farm Account and I try to backup sharepoint it fails. If I re-create the old farm account in Active Directory (don't change anything in Central Admin) I can backup again. The specific error I get from STSADM is "The specified user or domain group cannot be found". I'm assuming that the old Farm Account still have something it's holding onto in SharePoint 2010 that the new farm account should have and doesn't.

Any help?

MOSS 2007 MySite not working after deleting & readding an exchange account

Hi All,

One of our users had their AD account deleted and readded in Exchange, and now they cannot access their mysite, as the old profile information still exists. How and where would I fix this please?

As a test, I recreated this issue and found that deleting the old mysite entirely meant the new user profile could go and recreate a new mysite, but I need to know if I can somehow re-link the old mysite with the new profile?

Many thanks!

Paul.

You can't be right all the time, but you can be smart everyday.

MySite Employee Pictures not showing up within connected farm

I have two sharepoint 2007 farms.  One holds the global intranet content for all our opco's and houses the mysites.  The profile pages are enabled but not the personal pages.  We have allowed our users to update their employee pictures within their profile page.  Those pictures come through within web parts and lists just fine within this farm.  The other farm is in another domain and have connectivity to the mysite info on the other farm.  Within the secondar farm we are not seeing the pictures but get all the other data just fine.  What might be our problem with not seeing the image on this secondary farm?

Sharepoint - Workflows deleted by System Account

Hello all:

We are running into a problem where our workflows as well as the file's version history are being deleted by the "System Account".  And what's more peculiar is that this issue only seems to be happening with .pdf files.  I have checked the "Workflow auto cleanup" timer service in Central Administrator and it is set to disable.  However, even if they were enabled, these workflows are fairly new and should not have been deleted.

I created an approval workflow based on the predesigned approval workflow template.  I had set the approval to allow it to be manually started by an authenticated user & to start the workflow when publishing a major version of the document.  The assigned tasks are serial (one participant at a time) and I assigned 2 approvers, both of whom have owner rights to the site.

I first noticed the problem when the workflow is started and gets approved by the first user.  The second approver wants a change to the .pdf file so he sends it back to the first approver.  The first approver checks out the document, makes a change, then checks it back in.  Then we notice that the workflow has disappeared and the version history is gone.  When the user checks the document in, it reverts back to a version .1 and the workflow has to be generated again.  When looking at the workflow history, it says that the task

JQGrid Loading deleted values

Hi,

This is quite strange. here is the issue:

Some Info:

1. I'm using a multi-select jqgrid.

2. I have my own delete button to delete multiple orders

The problem:

When i press the delete button on the pager of my jqgrid, the records are deleted from the database but JqGrid shows some records (4-5). On refreshing the grid, correct numbers of records are shown.

Here is the code:

function delorder() {
        var amg = $("#horder").getGridParam('selarrrow');
        var cont = amg.length;
        if (amg.length > 0) {

SqlServer - Windows Account to install Application from Gallery

Referring to this tutorial: http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/tutorials/download-and-install-an-asp-net-application

I selected umbraco cms and got this wizard:

I already have Standard Sql Server 2005 on my machine which I wanted to us for above DB and not SqlExpress.

I did not remember "sa" account pwd nor I use explicitly any account to connect to my Sqlserver. I use Windows Authentication account i.e implicit authentication. So I created new account and gave all rights and used it in the above wizard and was able to install the database after some struggle.

My question is: What if I want to use my Windows Account to install the database above? Why the wizard don't have any option to use Windows Integrated Authentication?

Note: I can create the DB with external user I created, just looking specifics for using Windows Authentication for above installation.

Wrong Account being used to access files - Help - No Impersonation

I run a simple .aspx website on a Windows Server 2008 machine.

There is NO impersonation, and System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name returns NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE, which it the account which the application pool runs. In my web.config, I have <authentication mode="Forms">.

I tried to test the security of the application and server by removing file permissions to the .aspx files. I was greatly worried when the website continued to run without problem (it should not have been able to read the .aspx files).

By turning on file level auditing, I discovered that the .aspx files were being read by the machine$ account (if the machine is called Serv1, then the files would be read by the Serv1$ account, which seems to have access to all files on the local machine).

Is this a security breach or is this behaviour by design ?

Please can somebody assist, as I am worried.
