            {

Code works on aspx but not ascx

Not sure which category to put this question in, so I will put it in here.

Just to give you an idea of the layout of my solution, I have the main project, along with 2 class libraries, BLL and DAL.  (Business Logic Layer and Data Access Layer)

The BLL refers to the DAL and the main project refers to the BLL.

I had a test website and the code worked fine, but the same code will not work on the real project. The only difference is that in the test project, the code was on an aspx code behind, whereas in the real project, it is an ascx code behind (Web User Control )

The code is:

Dim connectionString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ASPNETDBConnectionString").ConnectionString
        Dim recordEntry As New UserRecord(connectionString)
        recordEntry.UserName = "TestName"
        recordEntry.BMI = bMI
        recordEntry.BMR = bMR
        recordEntry.FTM = fTM
        recordEntry.TDEE = tDEE
        recordEntry.TodayDate = dateForToday
        recordEntry.InsertRecord()

Dim connectionString As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ASPNETDBConnectionString").ConnectionString

Ldap authenication code is not working with IIS but works with Visual Studio developement webserver

Hi,I have weird issue here, I have a method that  takes a login Id and authenticates with LDAP active directory and returns the employee Id.It works great when I run the application in Visual studio 2008 ( it uses the default visual studio developement webserver). The code authenitcates the login id and returns emp Id perfectly. But the problem comes when I publish the code to the Local IIS in my developement PC.public string GetEastWestTeamMembersEmployeeID(string loginID)        {            string domain = string.Empty;            string login = string.Empty;            int position = loginID.IndexOf(@"\");            string empid = "";                  System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry directoryEntry = null;            if (position >= 0)            {                domain = loginID.Substring(0, position);    &n

Windows Service crashing on call to unmanaged code, even though console app version works

I have a C# program that at some point calls 2 functions from an unmanaged dll using p/invoke.  Everything works fine when I'm running in a console app.  When I compile the same program as a windows service and run it, it crashes.  The console app and service should be identical as far as my code is concerned... all either program does is create an object from another assembly of mine and run a Start() method on it.

I have used VS2010 to debug the managed and unmanaged code, and when I step through the Console app everything looks great.  When I attach the debugger to the service, i can step through the first function in the unmanaged code, control returns to the managed code, and then later when it comes to the point where it calls the second unmanaged function, the process terminates immediately before the debugger steps into the first line of unmanaged code.  There are no exceptions that I can see, and the only thing written to the event log is the generic "service terminated unexpectedly" message.  Running "sc query" on the command line lets me know the win32_exit_code is 1067.

Im running everything in .net 4, on winxp 32bit.  The serivce is running as Local System ideally, but the same behavior exists when I run it under my user account.

Not able to get current windows user in RS2005 (but same code works for RS2000)

We use the following custom code (checkGroupMembership.dll) to get identity of the current windows user and then check if the user is part of a certain group (roleName in code below).

SecurityPermission perm = new SecurityPermission(SecurityPermissionFlag.ControlPrincipal);
perm.Assert();
WindowsIdentity wi = WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent();
WindowsPrincipal cPrincipal = new WindowsPrincipal(wi);
isMember = cPrincipal.IsInRole(roleName);

The code above behaves differently for RS2000 vs. RS2005. Both RS2000 and RS2005 are installed on same server. If I use the following code to check the WindowsPrincipal name, I get the expected result (my windows login ID) when called from a report in RS2000 but for RS2005 I get the user id of reporting services.

cPrincipal.Identity.Name.ToString();

I have checked rssrvpolicy.config (for both RS2000 and RS2005) and it has the same permission for checkGroupMembership.dll.

Any suggestions on why the same code will get different WindowsIdentity? Where I should look next? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

WsHttpBinding: No FaultException for http status code 400 (for 500 everything works fine)

A .NET client consumes web services using Soap 1.2 via WCF. The services generate SOAP errors with http status code 400 and body containing SOAP fault code as well as subcodes. The client side exception that is thrown only contains InnerException = {"The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request."} without ability to access SOAP error code information.

For http status code 500 type of errors everything works fine by raising a FaultException with information.

Is there any flag to get it working for http status code 400 as well?

Code that works in WebDAV does not work when deployed to IIS7

Hi

I have been working on a solution that:

1. Connects to a Lotus Domino server to retrieve data from the .nsf file

2. Uses NotesSQL Driver 8.0 (I've tried both System DSN and ConnectionString method)

3. When I view the page using VS 2008 own's WebDAV to test run, it works flawlessly.  Database can be connected and so Data was retrieved successfully.

However, when I deployed the website to IIS 7, it gives me problem:

Following is the stacktrace from the Event Viewer entry:

svcutil ( wrong code) and add service reference (works smoothly)

Hi all,

I have a web service at java and I want to consume it with wcf. When I use add service reference to create the proxy everything works ok! When I tried to generate the proxy with svcutil it's generates me two files (*.cs and app.config) which I think is all I need. But nothing works, no errors but when I try to call the services I get nothing!!! But in the case you can't use add service reference (like an authenticated scenario which is the next step for me) what can I do? Why is this happening?Can someone help me?

Thanks.

SQL code works elsewhere, not in VS2010 Query Builder

SELECT caseid, recid, trandate, description, amount, SUM(amount) AS billtotal
FROM billtran GROUP BY caseid

The above SQL executes and gives me what I want under PHP/MySQL, but it won't even execute under VS2010 Express. When I put the above SQL code in the Dataset Designer Query Builder, I get an error: "In aggregate and grouping expressions, the SELECT clause can contain only aggregate and grouping expressions. [ Select clause = ,recid ]"

I don't understand what the problem is. What is the thing I must know about SQL that is different under Microsoft?

Problem with Web Handler - Code works as .aspx, but not .ashx

I'm trying to cover a page that is code-only to a web handler. However, I'm having problems figuring out why the code works when used in the code-behind for the .aspx file but not the .ashx page.

.ASPX Page Code Behind

Partial Class launchsite
    Inherits System.Web.UI.Page

    Protected Sub Page_Load() Handles Me.Load

        If Len(Session("UserDashboardURL")) > 0 Then
            If Len(Session("UserCurrentShowNumber")) = 0 Then
                Response.Redirect("~/development/content/dashboards/" + Session("UserDashboardURL"))
            Else
                If InStr(Session("UserDashboardURL"), "?") = 0 Then
                    Response.Redirect("~/development/content/dashboards/" + Session("UserDashboardURL") & "?ShowNumber=" & Session("UserCurrentShowNumber"))
                Else
                    Response.Redirect("~/development/content/dashboards/" + Session("UserDashboardURL"))
                End If
            End If
        Else
            Response.Redirect("~/development/content/dashboards/default.aspx")
        End If

    End Sub

End Class

Code Optimized Web Development Profile (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

When you first run VS 2010 it prompts you to select an IDE profile to use. The profile you select will configure how tool windows are displayed/docked in the IDE by default and set the default keyboard shortcuts. You can then customize any of these settings by using the Tools->Options menu within the IDE and then override/change them. You can also later reset your profile and pick a different one by choosing the Tools->Import and Export Settings menu command.

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.

Microsoft StyleCop: Source Code Analyzer for C#

StyleCop is similar in many ways to Microsoft Code Analysis (specifically FxCop), but there are some important distinctions. FxCop performs its analysis on compiled binaries, while StyleCop analyzes the source code directly. For this reason, FxCop focuses more on the design of the code, while StyleCop focuses on layout, readability and documentation. Most of that information is stripped away during the compilation process, and thus cannot be analyzed by FxCop.

C# and XML Source Code Documentation

Through many years of enterprise level software development and consulting, I became critically aware of the importance of good source code documentation, and several years ago when I began working with the first release of Visual Studio .NET beta 1 and found C# provided built-in support for inline XML code documentation, I was thrilled.
