check file size before uploading process in c# with asp.net

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hi All,

Thank you for Advance.

currently we are configured execution Timeout="1200" (The default is 110 seconds)  and maxRequestLength="12288"  (The default is 4096 KB)

but some times users upload files above 12MB so we are getting "Maximum request length exceeded" error.

we are checking the file size using client side javascript ActiveXObject object. but ActiveXObject only works in IE not in others like mozilla,crome,...

Jacescript Code are

function GetSize(file)
  var fso=new ActiveXObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject");
  var f=fso.getFile(file);
  return fso.getFile(file).size;

how can i check the file size before uploading process with support all the browser.

any posiblities for checking file size before server side script/object?

How do i force SharePoint to open file automatically during check out process?

Currently, when checking out a file (doc., excel, pdf etc.) in Sharepoint, i right click on doc. and click "check out". Then a window pops up and saying " you are about to check out:...." and i choose the option of saving the file in my Local Drafts Folder. The issue is that the file does not open automatically once i click "ok" in pop up window. I have go back to file in SharePoint and click on it again to open it. How do i force SharePoint to automatically open the file, when i go through the check it out process? Thank you all for your feedback.

SharePoint 2010 Incoming Email cannot process file attachment with zero size.

When sending email with attachments to SharePoint list, if one of the file attached to the email is of size 0, then none of the files will be saved and NO new item will be created in the list.

The SPEmailHandler's ProcessAttachment method should check the length of the "contentStream". If the length is 0, it should return immediately.

As you can see in the ProcessAttachment method none of the arguments are validated before they are used. This an example of poor quality code.

It should do at least

if (contentStream == null || contentStream.Length == 0) return;

if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(fileName) || item == null) return;

Finding client file size before uploading

I need to upload images from client to server as follows:

1. Server is passing the client a file name
2. Client is checking file extensins to ensure it's an image then issues a __dopostback to the server.
3. Server uses the FileUpload control to save the image on the server.

I have that all covered, but, if image is too large, the upload fails with the following error: 'System.Web.HttpException: Maximum request length exceeded.'

Is there a way to check file size on the client (without the use of ActievX which also errors out), before it is passed back to the server?

Sample code will be greatly appreciated.

How to go around the file size issue when uploading large files?

In my application the user uploads three files ( Resume, Cover Letter, Selection Creteria).

I want users not to upload more then 4 MB files, so In my web.confing file I have allowed max of 5 MB. <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="5000"/>. I did this so that I can validate the file and give user a message that they are trying to upload more then 4 MB file.

It all works fine if the user is only uploading resume. But if the user uploads all three files of size 4MB then my validation does not work and it goes to connection time out.

How can i handle the validation to check the file size of all 3 files?

Uploading to SQL Server using AJAX muiltiple file uploader and dynamic SQL Server Tables

I am getting an error on the following code when trying to pload files directly to a database.

 Incorrect syntax near ','.

 Incorrect syntax near 'image'.

    Private Sub Uploader_FileUploaded(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal args As UploaderEventArgs)

The file reached the maximum download limit. Check that the full text of the document can be meaning

I'm facing an issue with the indexing.

I have 1 WFE+Index server+DB server.

Index server is not installed with MS FIlter pack 1.0

When crawling, the there will be document with warning in crawl log:
The file reached the maximum download limit. Check that the full text of the document can be meaningfully crawled.

Documents that with warning are such as doc, ppt, xls, docs, ppts and many others.
However, I view into the successful crawled document, there are doucments with ext doc and ppt.

For large file index, there are MaxGrowthFactor + MaxDownLoadSize required to be added into the index server.

As my understanding is, MS Filter Pack should installed into index server(already did, correct me if i'm wrong).

I looked into the Office SharePoint Seach(CA>Services in farm), if the server is appointed to "Use this server as indexing server", then MS Filter Pack is suppose to be installed into that particular server as well.

At the bottom, there also has another option is "Use all web front end for crawling".

The question here is, IF the option "Use all web front end for crawling" is selected.
Does the WED FRONT END Server required to installed the Ms Filte

Access to path xxx denied when uploading a file using c#

Hi I have a file upload app written in c#. The app runs on IIS on a Windows 2003 Server OS. I want the app to upload the file onto the server (The app and the server are on the same machine). This code has been working fine for a long time running on Windows Server 2000, and Windows XP Professional. Now when I moved onto Windows Server 2003, it stopped working. I have given ASPNET account full access to the folder on the server, and it still gives this error. Is this a bug in 2003, and can anybody assist me? Thanks Shane

Log file size question

I recently setup transaction log backups after we had a log file get near its capacity. I noticed after log files are truncated, they still use up the same amount of disk space. Is it safe to shrink a log file?  If so how do you determine what is an appropriate size to shrink it to? I ask this because some databases, like a sharepoint content database, have log files that are 130 GB in size when their data files are only 5 GB.  I assume that now that I am running hourly log backups they dont need logg files that huge. -Edit - Also most of the logg files are setup with the default settings

Uploading a file to a document library produces access denied error, but only on first try.

Hi I have a task which uses a custom form which is part of a custom workflow.  The form incorporates an asp fileUpload control to allow a user to browse for a local file which they can then select and it will be upload a file to a folder in a document library.  The first time this action is performed the folder in the document library will not exist so the code creates a folder and then uploads the file to it. The problem I have is, the first time users try and upload a file the directory is created in the document library as expected, but then the user gets redirected to the standard SharePoint Access Denied page.  If the user goes back to the task list, then loads the task web page again, selects the same file and hits upload, then the file is uploaded fine. All subsequent file uploads work fine after that for all users. Users have Contribute permissions on the document library. The code to do the upload is as follows.  The task has a "CR Number" associated with it, which the directory in the doc library should be called.  It uploads the file to a stream.  Then gets the url of the web and works out the file url and uploads it.  The creation and checking of the folder in the doc library happens in the getDirUrl method. /// <summary> /// Processes an uploaded file. /// </summary> /// <param name="

Problem with uploading a zip file containing xls with macros

I am getting the following error when I try to upload a zip file containing xls file with macros. The zip file size is 4 mb. However, we have SP 2010 environment (ready to be deployed in couple of months) and it works there. So, it is not to do with the file. I am not sure if SP 2007 has any limitations/restrictions with .xlsm files. How do I fix this issue ? "GILA_Reports_File_byGTStar_9_2010.zip" contains the following virus: "Large uncompressed size; Tagged ID: C57E7332_69BC_484A_B087_DB04D574CDC4" . This file cannot be saved to the document library. If you want to save this file to the document library, clean the file using alternative virus scanning software and try saving it again.
