Accessing Client Devices & Upload to Server

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 23, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I'm in the process of creating a ASP.NET page that will allow the user to upload PDF files stored on a CD onto the server. I have written a piece of code that checks for an .ini file and then goes into a specific folder that will save the PDF files to a folder I have specified on my computer. Now that works fine in localhost, but when I uploaded it to the server it stopped working.

I get a 404 error everytime I click on the button to upload. I suspect i'm not correctly accessing the client's cd drive because the path to their drive isn't correct.

01.Protected Sub btnUpload_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpload.Click
02.       Dim fileReader As String = ""
03.       Dim intCount As Integer = 1
04.       Dim strFileName As String = "D:INI FILES\"  ' TODO: CHANGE PATH
05.       Dim fFile As New FileInfo(strFileName)
06.       Dim files() As String = Directory.GetFiles("D:\PDF\")
07.       Dim intNumOfFiles As Integer = CInt(files.Length()) - 1

Problem accessing Report Server from client machine

We've deployed some reports from a server machine which can be accessed without any problems if you are logged onto the server itself by going to the URL of http://servername/ReportServer. However if we try and access the reports from a client machine (even if we use the same administrator Windows account) we get the Windows security window appear asking for a Username and Password to be entered in order to connect to the server. We've tried entering this but we then just get a blank screen after being re prompted a few times to enter the details.

Now I'm not sure whether this will be a Reporting Services or a Windows issue. Could it be a setting within IIS? It can't really be a user thing as the same user works on the server but not on the Client machine so it's more of a machine problem. It's as if there are some authentication settings somewhere that need to be set.

We are using SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7.

Thanks a lot

SOAP: Using ATL Server to Build an Asynchronous SOAP Client in Unmanaged C++

SOAP opens up a new world of Web Services, letting you make function calls across a network or the Internet. But this flexibility creates new problems when your app needs to wait for calls to return from halfway around the world. What you need is an asynchronous SOAP client that takes advantage of threading to continue execution while waiting for calls over the wire. This article covers the basics of building such a client with ATL.

SQL Server CE: New Version Lets You Store and Update Data on Handheld Devices

Handheld device users need to be able to synchronize with a main data store when it's convenient and, preferably, when the back-end database server isn't busy. SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition allows you to build a traveling data store that can be displayed and run on a variety of devices. SQL Server CE supports a subset of the full SQL Server package, and can be used as a standalone server or in tandem with SWL Server and IIS. The architecture of SQL Server CE, along with data manipulation, synchronization, and connectivity issues, are discussed in this article. Topics such as making your data public, choosing the right type of replication, and handling errors are also covered.

Educational question: How server objects are accessed from multiple client threads?

I will appreciate it if someone can help me to undestand how the following scenario works:   There is remoting server that is registered as WellKnownObjectMode.Singleton. Server implementation: It instantiates a class TestServer that implements interface IFoo interface IFoo { IHelper GetHelper() }   interface IHelper { void StoreString(); }   Implementation of TestServer: internal sealed class TestServer: System.MarshalByRefObject, IFoo { private IHelper> helper = new Helper(); public IHelper GetHelper(string helper){return helper;} }   Implementation of Helper: internal sealed class Helper : System.MarshalByRefObject, IHelper { public void StoreString (string val) {}; }   Implementation of a client (simplified; shown to illustrate the question only): static class Program { public static IFoo TestService; public static IHelper Helper; public TestThreads testmultiplecalls; [STAThread] static void Main() { TestService = (IFoo)Activator.GetObject(typeof(IFoo),"ipc://Channel"); Helper = TestService.GetHelper(); testmultiplecalls.Start(); } }   internal class TestThreads { public Start() { for (int i = 0; i < 20; i++) ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem((new TestCall(i.ToString())).DoWork); } }     internal class TestCall { private string m_str; public TestCall (string str) {m_str = str;} public void DoWork() { Program.Helper.StoreString(m_str); } }     Que

FtpWebRequest - how to upload two files on FTP server using only one connection?

Hi I am using FtpWebRequest with option KeepAlive = true. When I upload first file I create ftp request object: FtpWebRequest result = (FtpWebRequest)FtpWebRequest.Create(""); I set KeepAlive = true and I do upload file. When I want upload second file I have to create new FtpWebRequest object using new URI FtpWebRequest result = (FtpWebRequest)FtpWebRequest.Create("");   I set KeepAlive = true and I do upload file. The problem is that I have to create new FtpWebRequest so I create new connection to FTP server (I have checked using netstat -b command that my application uses another port number for second file). How can I upload two files (or more) using only on FTP connection/session? Regards
