Role to view Procedures

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I am using sql server 2005. When i create a login as public, the login is not able to see sql stored procedures in SSMS by default.

If I create a role and grant execute permisison to the role and assign this role to the login then they can view the stored procedures. Do we need to have execute permission to view the procedure?..what role do i need to use against the loging to make them to view the stored procedure.

What I am missing?

Best regards, Sengwa

application role how query a view whose reference table is in another db?

Hi everybody. I created  an application role in a database (DB1) and gave it all the rights on a view  in DB1 which refers to a table located in another db (DB2).  I also gave the rights to the app role on a table of  DB1 I tried to use this app. role through the sp_setapprole launched by a user  (server principal?) which is SQL Server administrator (and local administrator (Win 2003 Server)). With the following query SELECT USER_NAME() I see that the approle is being used. Than, if I query the table on DB1 everything works, but if I query the view, referring a table in db2 I get following error:   The server principal "NameOfServerPrincipal" is not able to access the database "DB2" under the current security context. What should I do to make it work? The table in DB2 has the same schema of the view in DB1 which refers to it. I put the DB1 TrustWorthy and both the database have the db_chaining option activated.   Any idea on how to solve the problem would be widely appreciated. Thank you very much. Vania

Data View Web part, stored procedures, and sorting

I know I'll probably never get an answer to this because it seems that no one uses the Data View Web Part and there is a dearth of documentation (sigh), but here goes...

In MOSS2007, I need to call a stored procedure and get the data back and display it in the Data View Web Part.  I can do that.

The problem is enabling sorting.  I can enable sorting in the DVWP and it allows me to click the column headings and supposedly sort the data - but it doesn't sort it.  It does a postback, but doesn't affect the output.

I did some tracing with SQL Profiler, and found that if I use a SELECT statement, the sorting causes the web part to add the "ORDER BY" clause using the appropriate field.

However, since this is a stored proc, it does not seem to do anything - it just keeps calling the same stored proc over and over.

What I suppose I need it to do is pass the stored proc a parameter to tell it what order to sort the data - but I don't see any way to do that.  I can pass the stored proc parameters via the DVWP, but how do I figure out what sort field was selected and pass that?  Anyone know?

sql server 2005 view rights only on stored procedures

 I would like my developers to be able to view stored prcedures in production but not execute or modify them.  Is there a way to do this?  I tried granting view definition to the schema but I think they can still modify the procedure.  Any ideas?

GridView Parent Child View with JQuery Effects

I was just checked how to add some more cool effects to the GridView control using JQuery. In this post I will display parent-child data in the GridView control with some help of the wonderful JQuery library.

Let's first populate the GridView control.

Model View Controller (MVC) for ASP.NET

Model View Controller (MVC) architectures, immediately wonder how the MVC pattern can be applied in an ASP.NET world. This article will demonstrate how the MVC pattern can be applied to an ASP.NET web application and still maintain the basic Microsoft supplied architecture.

view state vs request parameters

If  the view state is the data entered into the form fields then they are supposed to be available in the request parameters or request body. Then why would we need view state for?

partial view, 2 controllers

This is my first visit to the forums, I hope someone here can help me

I'm writing a small webapplication for creating repair tickets and adding comments, really basic

now I'm writing this in MVC2

So I have 2 controllers, 1 HomeController that does everything related to the tickets (listing tickets, creating new ones, editing) and 1 controller for the comments

the edit view for the homecontroller contains a partial view for /comment/create

so /home/edit/ticketnumber can edit the title and status of the ticket on the left side of the screen, the right side of the screen contains the partial view for adding comments

this is done like this:

Html.Renderaction("Create", "Comment");

but if I look at the generated html code when running the app, both save buttons go to /home/edit/ticketnumber

so the comment is never saved.

I hope this makes sense and that someone can help me solve this

Problem making Role based Menu in MVC application

 I want to make Rolebase menu in MVC such that if user doesnot have permission for some action then that Action name shouldnot be shown in the Menu.

 I have used the code in the url(http://forums.asp.net/t/1566328.aspx) in my MVC application.My application is a Discussion Forum(in MVC) same functionality as in this forum forums.asp.net

 I have used Controllers for post, thread etc.In each controller there are some actions that are using [Authorize(Roles)] attribute

 but this coding does not count  those Actions in Controllers having Authorize attribute according to the url http://forums.asp.net/t/1566328.aspx

 In the code, Authorize attribute is applied to Controller class, but my requirement is of Applying Authorize attribute to some actions in controller so that some are available for all users and  some links are available rolewise.Now what is the solution for that?

I am using Windows XP SP3, vwde2008 with SP1, on a HP desktop.  Also using Office 2003 if that is relevant at all.

Thanks, Justin

View State Encryption

SqlDataSource how to change the stored procedures at run time

Is it possible to change the select, insert and update stored procedure of an SqlDataSource at run time. I don't mean to change the definition of the stored procedure, but I mean to change the assignment, i.e. To change the select stored procedure from "selectSP1" to "selectSP2" at run time. Is it possible?

Custom Control Design view error

I have created a custom control from scratch and it works fine as in you can build the project that uses it and it works fine at runtime. Problem is when you go to design view the control shows an error in the place of where the control should be rendered.

Error: '<SomeValue>' Could not be set to '<SomeProperty>'

This shows up on all my custom set properties. These properties are created as basic as possible. I can give the properties values in Source view and run the app just fine. I can even add a Onclick event. If I don't set any custom properties the control will render fine in Design view. It's only when I set a value to a custom property.

Property Code Example:

public string Text
                string ret = "";
                object obj = ViewState["Text"];
                if (obj != null)
                    ret = obj.ToString();
                return ret;
                ViewState["Text"] = value;

I've even removed the Category and Description tags with no difference.

I don't know if what I said makes sens, but I hope it
