I've been working on my first asp.net application and for the most part it's been pretty smooth. Right now I'm having trouble getting reporting services working under SQL Server 2005. I developed the site with Visual Studio 2010 and didn't think about any of the .Net 4.0 compatibility issues that have arisen. I'm having no problems with the site communicating with SQL Server 2005 for the regular database stuff. The only problem I'm having is with setting up Reporting Services. I have the .Net 4.0 framework installed on the server, however Reporting Services is still using 2.x. I'm not sure if this is a problem with SSRS or with IIS. When i go to localhost/Reports it's reading my web.config for my application and throwing an error: "Parser Error Message: Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'." This is referring to a line in my web.config where targetFramework is set to 4.0.
Software that I'm using:

Reporting has always been one of the dark arts of development. The tools typically seem to do just enough to get you to a certain point, then leave you to find workarounds to solve more complex issues.

SQL Server 2005 Reporting Servicesis a great tool that offers a centralized approach to storing and rendering reports. It also lets users view and download reports without installing additional software. Plus, reports can be saved in any number of different formats using custom report renderers. In this article, the author will develop one such report renderer that outputs HTML reports, but the skills you'll learn can easily be used to create a renderer for Microsoft Word documents or any other format of your choosing.

Many organizations analyze their business-critical data using Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) technology. OLAP-based data mining provides a way to query multidimensional data sets and drill down into the data to find patterns. ASP.NET and the Microsoft Office Web Components (OWC) enable Web-based OLAP reporting. The OWC controls include PivotTable and Chart components that can be embedded in a Web page and scripted by programmers. In this article, the authors build a Web-based OLAP reporting app using ASP.NET, OWC, and SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services to illustrate the process.

i am installing WSS 3.0 which has default instance of SQL 2005
I wanted to ask whether i can use reporting services from this instance of SQL in integrated mode with sharepoint ?
I am tasked with writing reports for existing MOSS 2007, for that i am doing a test installation and test connection to a test moss server (copy of the main one)
So, i have a already set and running MOSS 2007. I am following theese tutorials
But in my case, i have only two machines - one with main site moss and one with reporting services and sql for reporting services.
So far, i have installed SQL server, installed moss and reporting services on the reporting services machine.
I joined my moss into the existing farm successfully.
I've set up reporting services according to the tutorial (Except i use an account provided by test server administrator, which has all rights granted, since we dont bother with least privellege here, not a very big company...)
But when i check the /reportingservices page i see an error (its in russian) that teh server is wrongly configured. rsServerConfigurationError is the kind of error.
The tutorial said that i should see a blank page at this point. I will continue tutorial futher tomorrow (work day ends now
I am trying to install reporting services and join it into existing service farm.
Main MOSS 2007 is on one pc, with config bases etc, while reporting services, reporting services db will be on other pc.
We are using same domain account to run sharepoint services and reporting services.
I've installed web part of MOSS on that other computer, also reporting services and sql server, set reporting services in integration mode.
Either way, it wont work for me:
If i am running the service of reporting services as Network Service account, then the /reportserver page will complain about some generic error "probably you dont have access to the farm if you are in integrated mode" etc....
I've read that i should include networkservice into a group WSS_WPG which i did, no luck anyway, same error
If i try to type the adress into the integration with reporting services in moss admin page, i will get error like "expected xml received html" and alot of red text.
If i switch service to run from domain account (the one that is used for running sharepoint on the domain) (we did the spn thing, didnt work either), the /reportserver page will open
