Does SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Reporting Service support Shared Datasets?

I have spent a few hours trying to get this to work. I am using Report Builder 3.0 (locally), with SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition on a remote web server. I am running Report Builder as an Admin under Win7 64bit. All is OK until I attempt a Save of a newly created shared dataset. The error message is: Failed to save dataset "mydataset.rsd" The feature "Shared dataset" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. Details: The feature: "Shared dataset" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.OperationNotSupportedException: The feature: "Shared dataset" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. I have researched the web, and the list of features for Express Edition does not list this feature as not being supported, although it does list "Shared component library" as being missing. Could anyone please confirm the situation please. If it is  a bug, is there any fix or workaround?  John Walton

Windows service can't use Reporting Services on SQL Service 2008 R2

Hello. I have a Windows service that run as Local System account. The service uses the Reporting Services ReportService2005.asmx web service. When I have SQL Server 2008 installed, I have no problems and my service is able to browse and create report. After I have installed SQL Server 2008 R2 I get the error "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized." when the service tries to use the web service. If I change my service to log on as a user with administrator rights, it is able to use Reposting Services again. What has changes in SQL Server 2008 R2, that doesn't allow the Local System account to use Repoting Services? And is it possible to configure Reporting Services to allow it?   - Per

How to use SharePoint 2007 list data in Reporting Service (Visual Studio) 2008?

Jeez - I have been googling left and right, and tried all the suggestions. No luck in getting it to work. I am using Reporting Service 2008 tools in my VS2008, trying to create a simple report using SharePoint 2007 data (from a simple list). Here is what I've been doing: Created a simple SharePoint list in a test site - only one column (Title) with one record of data. Started Visual Studio 2008 and created a new Report Server Project Wizard project. I named the data source "dsTest". Type: "XML". As connection string I used: http://site/subsite/subsite/_vti_bin/lists.asmx. Credentials: "Use Windows Authentication (Integrated Security)". Clicked Next and arrived at the "Design the Query" form. I entered this in the Query string box: <Query> <Method Namespace="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/" Name="GetListItems" /> <SoapAction>http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/GetListItems</SoapAction> </Query> Clicking Next I get this error: An error occurred while the query design method was being saved. Failed to execute web request for the specified URL. Soap Fault: Exception of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException' was thrown. Now if I view the Details when trying it inside the Query Builder I get this: <errorstring xmlns="http://schemas.mi

SQL Server 2008 express SQL Server Service won't start

Could really use some help. Am running XP Pro SP3.  Had 2005 Express running fine previously.  Installed 2008 Express but cannot get the SQL Server service to start.  SQL Server Agent does start though.  In log (below) it seems to be trying to access an E:\ drive that doesn't exist (did default install to C:\Program Files) - plus other issues.  Have 5gig+ free, so not sure why it's saying not enough space.  Have RTFMd the problem for a whole day with no luck.  Any advice much appreciated.   Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (RTM) - 10.50.1600.1 (Intel X86)  Apr  2 2010 15:53:02  Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation Express Edition with Advanced Services on Windows NT 5.1 <X86> (Build 2600: Service Pack 3) (Hypervisor)   Error: 17054, Severity: 16, State: 1. Unable to Backup Service Master Key on SQL 2008 Express

Hi I am attempting to do a backup of the Server Master Key but it fails. The error message I am receiving is as follows: Msg 15240, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot write into file 'C:\Users\harvey norman\Documents\SQL Server Management Studio Express\SQLEXPR2008ADV_ServerMasterKey'. Verify that you have write permissions, that the file path is valid, and that the file does not already exist. The PC I am running SQL 2008 Express (64 bit) is running on Vista Ultimate (64-bit) SP2. The SQL I wrote is as follows: BACKUP SERVICE MASTER KEY TO FILE = 'C:\Users\harvey norman\Documents\SQL Server Management Studio Express\SQLEXPR2008ADV_ServerMasterKey' ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = '??' GO Note that the ?? represents the password but is not actually the password for obvious reasons. I am logged in to the PC as a user with Admin permissions.  I had a look at the destination folder, and it shows I have full control. So, I am mystified. If somebody could advise me I would really appreciate it. Many thanks in advance. Kind regards Ross Ross

Changing a current SQL 2008 Express Sharepoint instance to incl. Reporting services

I have a current instance of SQL 2008 Express that was created with a Sharepoint installation. Currently, that is the only purpose of the instance. We don't have management studio installed but from what we can tell by searching help screens is that instance is on SP 1 (10.1.2531.0) with Database Engine Services and SQL Server Replication. We need to now add Reporting Services. If we go to the Installation Tools to Add/Change the current instance, it asks for the SQL media which was from the original Sharepoint install. I have downloaded SQL 2008 Express with Advanced Tools but not SP 1. I've seen some threads where this wasn't a direct install. Ideally, I'd like to be able to change the current instance to add Reporting Services. When the wizard prompts for the media, will I be able to now point to the downloaed SQL Express w/ Adv. Tools even if it's not SP1? Thanks for your help. Tracy

SQL Server Reporting Service 2008 R2 - The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.

I got the error "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized." when I call the Reporting Service Web Service.

The code is very simple:

// Initialise the reporting service Web Service

this.RSWebService = new ReportingService2010();

// Pass windos authentication credentials to Web Service

this.RSWebService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;

// List children

List<CatalogItem> reports = this.RSWebService.ListChildren(folder, false).ToList();

The SQL Server is installed on a different machine (say server A) from the Web server (say server B). We are using Windows Server 2003.

The code work fine for all the scenario below:

i) Run locally (XP) to call the web service on the sql server

ii) Provide the Network Credentials with the username, password, and domain when calling the web service

iii) If the web server and sql server is using same server (i.e. not distributed)

I'm using windows authentication and impersonation. Any idea?

Issue when migrating Reporting service reports from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008

Hi Friends,

We are migrating reporting service reports from SQL server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 and facing below login issue.

We got a virtual machine with 2003 server and got SQL Server 2008 installed with reporting service.

I was able to publish my 2005 reports using VS 2005 easily.

1) But when I try to run the reports I am getting below errors at my website home page.

The permissions granted to user 'DomainName\MachineName' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)

I could not get why there is no user name in above error and how it says machine name does not have permissioin?

There should be at least some user id mentioned as per me.

What could be the reason of above error?

2) Also when I try to run reports using Reports website (i.e. http://server/Reports URL), I get below errro in executing the reports.

"An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot create a connection to data source 'ReportSource'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'."

Here the question is how it is picking up Anonymous logon. I thought it might be using Network Sevice acct to access reports.

What should I be doing to resolve above errors?

3) Also one more point about the s

Reporting Service of SQL 2008, BC30494, Line is too long

I have a report which is working fine on SQL server 2005 reporting service. Recently I moved it to SQL Server 2008 Reporting service but it returns [BC30494] error, saying "Native Compiler returns error: Line is too long". I am using Visual Studio 2008 BI, just bring rdl of 2005 into a new project.

Does anybody know about this? Does 2008 implement some limitations on rdl size?

I searched about this issue and changed by short textbox name and no helps. There are some expressions inside the report but I couldn't locate which expression caused this error.

wondering why 2005 version works.

Thanks in advanced.

SQL Server Express 2008 Reporting Services - rsAccessDenied error

I've read through a lot of posts regarding the problem, but none of the proposed solutions have worked for me. I continue to get an error stating, "The permissions granted to user '<servername>\Rich' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)." If I am logged in as the local administrator account, entering the Reporting Services URL in IE doesn't give me that error, but it takes me to a blank page. I haven't been able to get to a SSRS home page at all.

Order of operations:

  1. I installed and patched Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
  2. I installed SQL Server Express 2008 with Advanced Services using the MS web installer.
  3. I downloaded and installed SP1 for SQL Server Express 2008.
  4. Opened up an instance of IE and tried to go to http://<servername>/Reports, receiving the above error. Well, technically I first tried /ReportServer_SQLExpress as reflected in the SSRS configuration manager, but that didn't work, either. I then changed the Web Service URL to use the virtual directory, "Reports" instead of the longer ReportServer_SQLExpress. It didn't work either way.

I've tried running IE as administrator, adding local machine to trusted sites, and just about every other suggestion I've found. I even ran the entire installation logged in as the loc

Reporting services and Sharepoint Foundation 2010 + SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM - Express with Advanced S

Hallo,

is possible use reporting services in Sharepoint Foundation 2010 if I have installed SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM - Express with Advanced Services? I tried various settings and configurations, but it not works (I am not able successfully configure Reporting Services Integration in Central Administration).

Now I am not sure that is possible use reporting services in SPF 2010 + SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM - Express with Advanced Services...

Thank you!
