Changing SharePoint URL and Authentication

A couple of issues with authentication and site collection URLS.

1) I changed the authentication type on my site collection to NTLM.  After doing so I am unable to connect to central administration from a remote computer, I am only able to connect to while logged onto the physical server that hosts central administration.  What did I break by changing tha authentication type and how do I fix it?

2) I want to change the URL used to connect to the site (internally for now).  The original URL is "Http://<server hostname>"  I want the url to be http://sharepoint.<domain>.com.  I went into central adminsitration and then into alternate access mappings and changed the default URL to http://sharepoint.<domain>.com.  I am still able to connect to the site using http://<server hostname> and I am also able to connect with the new URL (additions also made to DNS).  The issue I am having, is when I connect to the new URL, I am prompted to login where before the windows authentication jsut worked.  Also after logging in if I attempt to open a document I am once again prompted to enter my credentials.  Even after checking the r

Changing an authentication of SharePoint site from SQL-FBA to Active Directory

Hi,      We are using MOSS 2007. I have customized a web application using Custom web part, features and ASPX pages. we have configured SQL-Form based Authentication for this site. I have also used FBA user management functionality from Codeplex. I have created some groups and my application (custom aspx page) is referencing these groups to send an email to specific person as per his role for certail events.        I have a requirement to migrate this set up on other server and change the authentication from SQL-FBA to Active Directory. So if I have to change the Authentication from SQL-FBA to AD then what are the steps I have to follow to make this happen?      I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks, Patav

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

Custom SharePoint Timer Job doesn't run after changing code and restart timer services.

Hi We are facing an issue that our custom SharePonit Timer Job doesn't run after a changing the code. First, we developed and deployed a timer job. It worked fine for a few days, then we detected a memory leak and killed the OWSTIMER.EXE. (Maybe we should uninstall the timer job and restart the timer services nicely). We fixed the problem, redeployed the fix as a feature (assemblies are re-GACed ...) to our small SharePoint farm (one web server, one services server), restarted the SharePonit Timer Services. Now we can see the time job in Timer Job Definition in Central Admin but the job never runs (Since it doesn't run, the timer job status page doesn't have any info about it). We tried the same process in a dev environment with SharePoint signle box installation. The timer job just works fine. I did some search on Internet and followed some instruction to clear the cache from "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\SharePoint\Config\1d50d73c-9bf1-4444-85a9-910ed050d1bf" by 1. Remove all the xml2. Clear the cache.ini with "1".3. restart the timer services. It still doesn't fix the problem.Please advise what else I can do. I even rename the timer job and redeploy it. It doesn't help. I checked the even log and SharePoing log and couldn't see anything wrong. Our OS is W2K8.         public override void FeatureActivated(SPFeatureReceiverProperties properties)        {

Central Administration no longer accessible by any account after changing Farm Account in SharePoint

I have a problem, that I no longer can access Central Administration Website, only the Sharepoint itself. I was running installation of Sharepoint 2010 Server with administrative account ImTheAdmin, who is a Domain Admin in the MYDOMAIN domain. Using ImTheAdmin I installed Sharepoint 2010 on one of the Windows 2008 R2 member servers. Besides that, I made ImTheAdmin the primary administrator of the Sharepoint. ImTheAdmin became the only user of this Sharepoint 2010 server after installation.  I installed everything on one box with default installation settings. I used builtin SQL server, not Standard or Enterprise. What then happened is: Using ImTheAdmin account, I opened Central Administration Website, and it said, that I need to change the Farm Account, as the account for Farm was the default one (I think it was network service). So I created a regular domain user in AD Users and Computers called MYDOMAIN\SPFarmAccount. Then using IE, I went to the Central Administration Website page, which is meant for changing farm account usernames. I put in MYDOMAIN\SPFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pressed Change. Browser worked for a while, and after that nothing seemed to work. Neither my Sharepoint, nor Central Administration website. When going to Central Administra

Using ONLY User Certificates for SharePoint 2010 Authentication/Authorization

  Hello, I am relatively new to SharePoint, and was wondering how I can accomplish using only user certificates to authenticate (and eventually authorize) access to the SharePoint 2010 Server (not just IIS). My Environment currently looks like this:  - SharePoint is SSL-enabled - User Browser Certificates (generated using OpenSSL) successfully authenticate to the IIS Server - SharePoint uses Basic Authentication (user/password based on AD credentials) I need to: - Authenticate the user to SharePoint using the User Certificate from my browser (in other words, no password authentication to access the SharePoint website, but use the certificate that was used by iis to be able to log into SharePoint) I am assuming I must use some sort of claims-based authentication.  Ideally, I would like to use ONLY the certification itself as a source of Authorized Repository for authentication. However, I am also open to having the user certificate be linked to Active Directory users as well.  I have done some research on this but am still lost as to how to approach this problem. Is there anyone that has done this or can assist me in getting this to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

SharePoint crawling - Windows authentication failing for STS4?

In a Sharepoint 2010 installation, we are trying to crawl the content of a small, single-node SharePoint installation. The crawling is partially successful. We are able to retrieve data delivered from the web services (_vti_bin/sitedata.asmx), but when the crawler tries to access the full page contents, it fails. The error message shown in the Crawl Log is: The crawler could not communicate with the server. Check that the server is available and that the firewall access is configured correctly. SharePoint - Report Server - Client Certificate authentication

Hi,I have a SharePoint site collection which requires client certificates. On the server I have configured Reporting Services in integration mode.I can call reports on other site collections which don't require client certificates but not on the site which does. On the site which requires client certificates the pages fail with the following error message:'An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode. --> The request failed with HTTP status 403: forbidden'The error message indicates that SharePoint doesn't call the web service with a client certificate. Does anyone know how I can configure SharePoint to use a client certificate?Any help is greatly appreciated.Adam
