Outgoing mail server in Not Configured status!

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi all,

We have one test SP 2010 server on our LAN, it's a standalone server. Everything is working as it should be, except Outgoing Mail setup. The thing is we point outgoing mail server to internal Exchange mail server. We have same configuration for our five MOSS 2007 servers, and they work flawlessly. On 2010 we have same settings from same network but with “not configured” status under Servers Services. What is difference between these two SP setups? Is there something else we needed to do after SP setup or…? Thanks in advance for tips and answers…

SP Outgoing E-Mail Error

Hello Community,

I have a MOSS Server running on Virtual PC.  I have installed and configured MOSS to include incoming and outgoing e-mail.  Incoming e-mail works fine and my lists are receiving e-mail.  My problem is outgoing e-mail.  Right now, any outgoing e-mail produces an error message that is caught by the System Event Viewer, here is the error message:

Event ID: 6857

Description: Cannot connect to SMTP Host

I have checked and rechecked my outgoing e-mail settings and I'm convinced they are correct.  I don't have any firewalls on (it's a virtual development server on a platform that has ant-virus, firewall, etc.).  I have enabled verbose logging for SharePoint Workflow Infrastructure events but the SP Logs only have the same exact message as System Event Viewer.

I've checked out the other posts here and searched the internet as well but no luck.

Any ideas?

SQL Server VSS Writer "Status"

Hello, I have an HP Server running Win 2008 R2 Ent. X64 SP2 with Hyper-V and been having issues with Windows Server Backup. My original post can viewed here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverhyperv/thread/6a20c2e9-499e-4ae3-9c21-f6a6971d9e5f/#676611f6-1d1f-4c1c-84f8-84f6bae9187b I have read a lot of forums and article and done windows update, but could not get the Windows Server Backup to work manually or on scheduled time. The above link shows the list of errors when the backup runs. When I opened the Service list I noticed that SQL Server VSS Writer had a status of "Starting" and startup type "Automatic". When I stopped the service I managed to get the backup to work manually and on it scheduled time. Should this service be stopped and set to automatic or should be started and automatic? Thanks..

Real Server noob having mail problems.

Hi Everyone, I have coded my application to send mail and it works fine some of the time depending on the to or from address specified in the particular message but at other times I am getting a relay error. "The server will not relay mail for foreign domains". I HAVE authenticated myself to the mail server using a valid username and password in the code. Basically here is the setup. Our site is hosted overseas in the states with one company, our nameservers are also in the states but with our company not the hosting company. Our mail server is local (that is here in New Zealand). I'm pretty sure that the code is right because I've read dozens of posts on here which point to coding errors and it seems to be right. Do I need MX records or anything like that in some place? What do I do? Thanks

SharePoint Server 2010 - E-Mail Alerts on Tasks

I want an e-mail alert to be sent to the user I assign to a task in a Task List web part. I'm going to be assigning tasks to everyone in my organization (200+) so I don't want to setup alerting for all of them or for an AD group. How can I do this?  Should I use SharePoint designer or will I need managed code? TIA

Mail Enable Sharepoint 3.0 with Exchange 2007 on same server.

Windows 2008 SBS with 2007 and Sharepoint 3.0.  I can create the email contact and it works fine but when I attempt to send the email with the attached document I get the following error and the email never makes it to the document library.

#554 5.4.4 SMTPSEND.DNS.MxLoopback; DNS records for this domain are configured in a loop ##

Can I get the STEP by STEP procedures to mail enable a Document Library on Sharepoint 3.0 with EXCHANGE 2007 on the same server or is there a simple fix that I can do to get this resolved.

PLEASE advise ASAP. I have been working on this issue off and one for weeks and the client really wants this for their timesheets.

Thanks in advance!

Project Server Services remains in Starting status

When trying to start the Project Server service, the service remains in Starting status.

I've tried to stop and restart the service on the server that I want to run and this doesn't help.

These are the services that I see on the server:

Microsoft Project Server Events Service 2010

Microsoft Project Server Queue Service 2010

I'm on SP2010 14.0.5123.5000 (August CU).

This is preventing me from accessing the service to configure and provision my Project Server site.

SQL Server Reporting Service 2008 R2 - The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.

I got the error "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized." when I call the Reporting Service Web Service.

The code is very simple:

// Initialise the reporting service Web Service

this.RSWebService = new ReportingService2010();

// Pass windos authentication credentials to Web Service

this.RSWebService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;

// List children

List<CatalogItem> reports = this.RSWebService.ListChildren(folder, false).ToList();

The SQL Server is installed on a different machine (say server A) from the Web server (say server B). We are using Windows Server 2003.

The code work fine for all the scenario below:

i) Run locally (XP) to call the web service on the sql server

ii) Provide the Network Credentials with the username, password, and domain when calling the web service

iii) If the web server and sql server is using same server (i.e. not distributed)

I'm using windows authentication and impersonation. Any idea?
