"More" option for Summary view on lists

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I'm not sure if this is the correct area to post this question or if it's more of a design question but...

I noticed with 2010 that when lists such as announcements and links get beyond a certain quantity that the Summary view within the webpart shows a "More" link even if the webpart is set to only show say 5 items.

I've checked the XSL stylesheets and can't find any entries that would specify to show the More link once a list grew to a certain point. I've also checked the web part, list, and view settings to no avail. Any suggestions?

How to filter view using ListViewXML with group by option?

I try to filter my view in list using ListViewXml property. The view has group by section. After implementing a filter for the view data under groups are the same(not filtered), but group rows show quantity of rows for each group  like filter is implemented. So it works well without group by.    XmlDocument document = new XmlDocument();  document.LoadXml(webPart.ListViewXml);  XmlNode queryNode = document.SelectSingleNode(".//Query");  XmlNode whereNode = queryNode.SelectSingleNode(".//Where");    if (whereNode != null)     {        whereNode.InnerXml = query.Query;      }   else       {        queryNode.InnerXml += "<Where>" + query.Query + "</Where>";        }  webPart.ListViewXml = document.InnerXml;

Adding ListViewWebPart to a page - how do you set its view to

If you add a ListViewWebPart to a wiki/web part page (such as the Links list), it will default to the <summary View>.  If you add it using code, it will default to the default view.  How can I set it to use the <Summary View>? I tried setting node.Attributes["BaseViewID"].Value = "0" in the web part view xml, but that didn't do anything. Any thoughts? ListViewWebPart wpLinks = new ListViewWebPart(); SPList listLinks = site.Lists["Links"]; wpLinks.ListName = listLinks.ID.ToString("B").ToUpper(); wpLinks.ViewGuid = listLinks.DefaultView.ID.ToString("B").ToUpper(); AddToolBar(wpLinks, "Add new link"); private void AddToolBar(System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.WebPart wp, string label) { // Get the view used in the web part by using reflection PropertyInfo viewProp = wp.GetType().GetProperty("View", BindingFlags.NonPublic | BindingFlags.Instance); SPView webPartView = viewProp.GetValue(wp, null) as SPView; // This is necessary after the infrastructure update, without it you can't get to the XML of the view webPartView.GetType().InvokeMember("EnsureFullBlownXmlDocument", BindingFlags.NonPublic | BindingFlags.Instance | BindingFlags.InvokeMethod, null, webPartView, null, System.Globalization.CultureInfo.Current

Programmatically adding Calendar web part with summary view or custom view?

Within my feature I am adding a calendar web part to page.  I would like to specify the summary view (not the full graphic calendar view).  Is this possible? Is it possible to create a custom view and set the listviewwebpart to this custom view through code?   thx -davedave

Creating a generic template writer that can handle drop downs and option lists

If I have a the following model

public class User
		public List<Company> Companies;
		public string Login { get; set; }

		[DisplayName("First Name")]
		public string FirstName { get; set; }

		[DisplayName("Last Name")]
		public string LastName { get; set; }

		public string Password { get; set; }

		private int Company { get; set; }

And the following generic control template writer (which would have to be extended appropriately)

<%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl" %>
<% foreach (var prop in ViewData.ModelMetadata.Properties .Where(pm => pm.ShowForEdit && !ViewData.TemplateInfo.Visited(pm)))
{ %>
	<div class="SD_FieldItem">

			switch (prop.ModelType.Name)
				case "Boolean":

						<div class="SD_BoolField">
							<%= Html.CheckBox(prop.PropertyName) %>

							<%= Html.ValidationMessage(prop.PropertyName,

Is it possible for a sharepoint VIEW to aggregate multiple TASK LISTS?

I have a few TASK LISTS, each with identical structure, that can't be combined initially, based on the groups that control the task lists.  ALL Task Lists reside on the same SITE.  I would like to find a way to "UNION JOIN" multiple task lists under a single Tasks List VIEW, if that can be done.  Alternately, is there a WEB PART that can do this?

Is there a way to merge multiple similar-structured task lists within a single site - and if so, how would it be done?

Sharepoint Foundation - Create and deploy custom edit/view forms for external lists

Firstly, we are using sharepoint foundation so Infopath forms are not an option for us.

We have a Visual Studio sharepoint project which deploys a complete sharepoint site. The site contains a number of external lists and we want to be able to create customised view/edit forms for these lists and add them to our Visual Studio project so they can be deployed as part of the new site. The idea is that we can deploy the solution to a fresh site with a default set of forms which can then be customised for different implementations of the site.

Here's the steps we have been using to try and do this:

1. Deploy the base project (BDC) to the sharepoint site

2. Create external lists based on the BDC content types

3. Use Sharepoint Designer to create new edit/view forms for the lists and set these as the default forms for the list

3. Save the site as a template

4. Import the template into a new Visual Studio project and select the lists we require. This gives us a List Definition, a pages module (with element file), an elements file and a schema file (both for the List Instance).

5. We then add the contents of the imported project to our main solution as follows:

  • Create a new List Definition (including List Instance)
  • Copy the contents of the imported Elements.xml to the Elements file for our List Instance.

Datasheet view, I get this error message: The lists are access DB lists.

  When I try to edit any of the lists by typing directly in the Datasheet view, I get this error message: The lists are access DB lists.

"An unexpected error has occurred. Changes to your data cannot be saved. For this error, you can retry or discard your changes."

I get this error message when I try to
1. add a new row by typing directly in the Datasheet view,
2. edit an existing row by typing (or selecting from a dropdown menu) directly in the Datasheet view, or
3. delete a row by right clicking on a row and selecting Delete Rows.

The error does not occur when I add new items to a list in the Datasheet view by clicking on one of the dropdown menus at the top of the list (such as New, and selecting New Item; or Actions, and selecting New Row). Using these options works fine for adding new rows, but I see no way now to edit or delete existing rows.

The problem seems to have developed sometime in the past few weeks.
I'm using Internet Explorer 7 with Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 3.

"View Reports" Option is missing from the "Site Actions" Dropdown - Please help!!!!

I have users who have contribute rights on one Document Lib and View only on another, but the option to view the reports is not under their site actions menu. We need to check in multiple documents by running the report of "All documents checked out to me"? Why would this occur for onlyone persons profile????

Why am I missing option to delete lists and libraries?

I just setup my first SharePoint 2010 site using the Publishing Site template. I seem to be missing the option to delete libraries. From what I understand, the option should be listed under Permissions and Management Settings on the List/Library Settings page. However, I don't have this option... I am logged in with an account that has Full Control permission.

What am I missing? Thanks!

how to customize the graphical summary view of the survey list

Hi, I created a survey list with a number of open questions. The out-of-box graphical summary view, however, list all questions by default.

This means one bar for every single answer of each open question because most of those answers are expected to be unique.. I tried using Javascript trick to hide certain questions, but there is simply no identifier I can use for each question block..

Is there any way I can choose what questions to present in the graphical view or any other workaround..

Thanks in advance

Large lists unmanageable in Standard View?

I'm migrating some content from a SharePoint 2007 environment to a SharePoint 2010 environment. As it's not much, I've opted for simply recreating it and migrating it manually. In this process I've got a few large lists.

In a list with 40 columns and 1500 items, I had to use Datasheet view to view it properly. The original view in the SharePoint 2007 version was datasheet too, so not a problem there. However I did notice that a standard view was completely unusable, it just soaked up memory and utilized one core of my dual core cpu to max, doing practically nothing. All I could do was close the IE instance.

In another list, with around 30 columns and 600 items, I noticed that the original was a standard view. So I created a standard view in SP2010 as well. However this view is quite sluggish, not at all as smooth as the SharePoint 2007 counterpart.

My quick findings are that I must use Datasheet view for all large lists in SP2010. Have you come to the same conclusions, or is there a another way of displaying large lists in Standard View?

Provision an InfoPath form template in a content type, with "view in browser" option

Hi all.
I've to provision an InfoPath form template in SharePoint 2010 within a content type, and my form must be open in a browser.
The provision of the .xsn file and of the content type goes well, but my form always open in the client and not in the browser. Instead, if i publish my form from InfoPath 2010 using the "Publish" option and i select to publish my form within a content type, everything goes well. I can see the form in the browser.

Here is my code.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Elements xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/">
 <Module Name="OpeningJeans" Url="_cts/MY CONTENT TYPE" RootWebOnly="TRUE">
  <File Path="InfopathModules\MyForm.xsn" Url="MyForm.xsn" />

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Elements xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/">
<!-- Parent ContentType: Form (0x010101) -->
 <ContentType ID="0x0101

How do I adjust the # of posts visible on the main page of a blog? Summary view?

So while I love the basic summary view used by the blog, I would like to limit the main page to showing just the 5 most recent updates.  Most views this is easy to edit by adjusting the item limit on the list, but since the Summary view of the posts list doesn't show up anywhere I am unsure where I can set the limit.

I have looked at the editable views in designer but again I do not see the Summary view listed anywnere.  Help

Show filtered data from multiple data lists in a view

I am attempting to build a very simple Sharepoint site with 3 data lists: 1) Themes,  2) Value Statements, 3) Supporting Details

Each Theme has 2+ Value Statements and each Value Statement has 2+ Supporting Details.

Currently, I have the Forms setup so that when I enter a new Supporting Detail, the individual must select from the avaialable Value Statements (using a Lookup Column).

What I would like to do, now, is allow an individual who is looking at a view of all the Value Statements to see the Title field of all the Supporting Details that have been entered for that particular Value Statement (with hyperlinks).

I'm guessing that I need to use SharePoint Designer 2010 to customize the view, but am not certain how to do it from there.

Option to Group By: Content Type is missing from view settings.

In testing for migrating/upgrading our WSS 3.0 environment to SharePoint 2010, I have noticed that there is no longer an option to group list items by the Content Type column in view settings.  Is this by design, or a known issue that still needs to be fixed?  This is using the recent SharePoint 2010 Enterprise RTM.

Removing "External List" option from Custom Lists?

We are in the process of upgrading from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010.  Our business users have noticed a new option of creating a new "External List" under the Custom Lists heading.  Is there any way to remove the External List option without having to customize the create.aspx page?
