Changing ContentType in Workflow using vs2008

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi Everyone,

I need to change the ContentType in my Sharepoint workflow. If I set the following will this change it? If not how. If I am presently using ContentType 1 for a List and want to switch to using ContentType 2 what code do I need in order to make this happen?

SPListItem currentItem = workflowProperties.Item;
SPContentType myCType = workflowProperties.List.ContentTypes["ContentType 2"];

    currentItem["ContentTypeId"] = myCType.Id;

I'm thinking this will work but not sure.

What version of VSExtensions for WSS is needed if our dev environment is changing from VS2008 to VS2

We currently are using VS2008 with WSS3.0 SP2 and the VSE1.2 installed. We will be converting to VS2010 in the next couple of days, so my question is -- do we still need to install WSS3.0 SP2 and VSeWSSv1.2?  My guess is that we would still need to install WSS3.0 SP2, but not sure about the VSeWSSv1.2... Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Custom VS2008 Workflow "An error has occured in Workflow" - Error Occured

The problem: a custom workflow associated with InfoPath form in a document library on SharePoint 2007 fails to fire on the new server. We get "Error Occurred" as workflow status every time.  History Logs are not informative, here's one example:

Travel Workflow

Access Denied error when attaching VS2008 workflow debugger to 64-bit IIS if VS2008 user differs fro

I am trying to attach VS2008 to debug a workflow hosted in IIS (using the workflow debugger option so I can step through the visual workflow designer breakpoints, not the managed code debugger).  It is actually a WF 3.5 WCF workflow service hosted in IIS but I don't think that is the issue.  When I attach from VS2008 I always get the error "Unable to attach to process.  Access is denied."

I can attach for managed code debugging no problem.  Also, if I configure the IIS worker process app pool to use the same account as the account I am running VS2008 under I can attach not problem and debug using the workflow debugger.

So my remaining problem is that I would like to be able to attach while running VS2008 as my normal user account and leave the w3wp.exe app pool running as the usual networkservice account so that my debugging represents how the w3wp.exe will act in production.  I'm on Vista SP1 64-bit with .Net 3.5 SP1 and VS2008 SP1.

Q: Is there a special privilege I can grant the worker process account so that I can debug while using a different user account?

I saw a very old post here http://blogs.msdn.com/sonalic/archive/2006/05/10/594703.aspx that hinted there is something special for 64-bit.  Does anyone know if there is something special about 64-bi

Changing the Deployment server of a sharepoint sequential workflow

Apologies if i have posted this in the wrong forum. I have a couple of sequential workflows that i have created and deployed to our test sharepoint site and am now ready to put them onto our live server which is on a completely different machine.

How do you change the deploy location of the workflow so that when its deployed its sent to the new server rather than the one set when first creating the workflow.

VS2008 Workflow Designer is Very Slow

Yes, I realise that this is a known issue. And has been known since VS2005.

We, too, are experiencing very slow response in the WF designer, running VS2008. It happens on both XP and Vista. (We are using grunty computers, running Subversion, with a local repository, and ReSharper.)

Will increasing CPU power or RAM or HD speed have any impact?

While this has been acknowledged by Microsoft as a "known problem" it would help immensely if someone from Microsoft could say that it is under investigation and that one or more people have been assigned the job of sorting it out for a later (unspecified) release.

Otherwise the advantages of a DSL are outweighed by the pain during development, and what appears to be a good choice of tool may have to be put aside for an alternative approach that is more productive.

Any answers?

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

Free Series of SharePoint Workflow How-to Videos

This is the series of "How to" Document Workflow with SharePoint using Visual Studio 2008 (using the .NET Framework 3.0 for backward compatibility to Visual Studio 2005). I have created video's that show the most common requests that I have seen around MOSS/SharePoint 2007 workflow & document workflow.

Convert English to Arabic number without changing any regional settings in .net

Well, most applications that I worked with was multilingual that supports English UI and Arabic UI.

And one of the major issue that we have faced is displaying Arabic numbers without the need of changing the regional settings of the PC.

So the code below will help you to display Arabic number without changing any regional settings.

Problem with changing language using culture info

I'm using the following msdn article to use different languages in my web application:

I'm following the instructions step by step in VS 2010, and it creates the resource files exactly how it's supposed to.

However, when I run the program it just doesn't apply it. I don't see the different values from the resource file.

If I leave my resource file name as sample.aspx.resx, it works. But when I change it to sample.aspx.en-us.resx, it doesn't work. I'm supplying culture from the aspx page's Culter and UICulture properties. I'm being very careful in choosing the correct file name, as that could be the issue,  but it just doesn't work. I also tried changing the culture in the backend code this way:

Changing direction of pop-ups/alerts in RTL

Hello All,

I am not able to change the direction of popups/Alerts in Arabic culture which should be RTL direction.

Rest of my application is changed in above culture, only problem is with popups and alerts.

Thanks in advance.

Changing from Local to WCF

I've been handed an application thats connection string implies a local host connection.

I want to make this connection a remote connection, to a database located on a Server.  I want the client and server to be able to communicate with one another remotely, instead of a local connection.

How does one create the Data Service, and establish end points to Server and Client?  Is it as simple as creating a contract (which I have limited knowledge on constructing), between the two locations, setting up the dataservice, security, and ratifying the 'connetions'?

A smidge of insight, please ;-)

web deployment project (WS_deploy) on VS2008

I am building a asp.net webservice in VS2008 and the web service compiles and debug fine. The project should be using : Net 3,5

 I have

  1. VS2005 and VS208 installed
  2. .Net 1.1 - 3.5
  3. WebDeploymentSetup for VS2008 (and most likely a version for VS2005 as well)

But when I add a web deployment project the fun stops. The .WS_deploy project will not compile and I cannot find any precompiled output.

Changing classic asp.net Menu to CssAdapterMenu

Hello Friends,

I have been using asp.net menu control that is programmatically binded at runtime and has n child node levels. Now i want to use CssAdapterMenu instead because the menu control contains more than 1000 menuItems(in the near future it can also be more 2000 menuItems) and has very slow response in IE 6 or IE 7.

Now my question is how should i change the classic asp.net menu to CssAdapterMenu. What should be the steps? Any samples example of n child node levels would be helpful

Workflow Services: Visual Design of Workflows with WCF and WF 4

The .NET Framework 4 makes it easier than ever to implement WCF services using WF. We'll demonstrate just how easy it is by modeling a long-running, durable and instrumented workflow based on a real-world business case without having to write any code.
