SharePoint ItemUpdating EventReceiver and Office 2007 documents -- columns not updated

We've created an ItemUpdating EventReceiver that sets various properties (columns in the library) on the document based on user selections in a couple other properties.  This code works fine and for all file formats in a Windows 2003 Server/MOSS 2007 environment.

In a Windows 2008/MOSS 2007 environment, however, when we upload MS Office 2007 documents (e.g. docx, xlsx, pptx) these updates are not made.  What's interesting is that the code does actually execute (we've compared logging statements for non-MS Office 2007 files to MS Office 2007 files, and all settings being equal, the code executes exactly the same way on both files, but when the library list view is refreshed, the pre-MS Office 2007 document HAS the values, but the MS Office 2007 documents do not!.

Anyone have any idea why this code is not able to "commit" the values to the documents?  Again, the code works fine (per our logging output), it's just that the values do "not take".....Is there something in the Windows 2008/MOSS 2007/Office 2007 "integration" that might be interferring or that would prevent values form being updated?

Publish Office 2007 documents with metadata to SharePoint 2010?

Hi. I have SharePoint 2010 Enterprise based Intranet solution. We are publishing office 2007 documents to various document libraries there. When uploading documents normally to the document library, I can enter managed metadata to the documents which are later sorted and filtered by this metadata. But how can I enter metadata at the point where I'm publishing the document(Publish->Document Management Server)? I can get the document management pane to show my metadata -column in word as a textbox after the document is published, but the textbox is colored grey and says that I should modify that data on the server i.e. from sharepoint.

Long delay opening Word documents from SharePoint 2007 with Office 2010


The first time a document is opened it's fine, opens in just a few seconds.

Subsequently, there is a long delay (about 20 seconds) in the "Contacting server for information..." step.

This happens to all users and all documents, each one will open fast the first time then slowly the second and subsequent times (until, we think, the app pool is recycled - there is no schedules iisreset/reboot).

This does not happen when using Office 2007.

IE6 and 7 exhibit the same behaviour.

All documents open as Read Only in Office 2010 from SharePoint 2007


I have recently installed Office 2010 and now when I select "Edit in Microsoft Word" from a SharePoint document library, the document will only open as Read Only.  I am running SharePoint 2007 SP1, I have admin rights to the workstation, server, sharepoint list and document.

I have tried the registry entry " OpenDocumentsReadWriteWhileBrowsing = 1 " but that has made no difference.  I have also run webfldrs.msi with no effect.  The website is a trusted site and I have switched off all of the protected view options.

Any help welcome!

How to prevent Sharepoint 2007 from adding Custom XML to Office 2007 documents

Unable to save Office 2007 document to SharePoint My Site Personal Documents document library


...also when Office documents are saved to document library they open as Read-only and cannot be saved back to the same document library.

This only happens in my production SharePoint 2007 environment from client XP and IE7 machine.  It does not happen in developement environment (which mirrors production) from client XP/IE7 machines.

Save works fine to SharePoint document libraries from client Win 7 and IE8 machines in both production and development environments.

This only happens when attempting to save to a My Site Personal Documents document library.  Any other document library this behavior does not exist from XP or Win 7 machine.

What settings controls ones ability to save to a personal My site document library.  What setting could be different between prod and dev installations?  It only happens

In sharepoint excel working fine in office 2007 but not in office 2010


Hi All,

we receive error  while trying to create excel sheet using the template we have uploaded on the SharePoint 2007.


This occurs on a machine that has Office 2010 installed. Earlier the machine had Office 2007 and everything was working fine.

Office 2010 will not open Office 2003 Documents on SharePoint

Going directly to a document in the document view and selecting any of them will present the Read Only/Edit prompt and when clicking Read Only Word or Excel 2010 depending on the document type will open to a blank page and just sit there. If you do a search and then click on the documents that are returned in the search results, it opens as expected.

Sharepoint 2003 + Windows Terminal Server 2008 + Office 2007 problem?

Hi, We have a customer where some users runs Windows Terminal Server 2008 with Office 2007. They open documents from a Sharepoint 2003 site. When they open an excel sheet they get a button in the document which says "Server workbook: Click edit workbook to edit this workbook" and there is a button: "edit workbook" The users clicks "edit workbook" but get an error message saying there is no connection to the server.  They are able to edit the document, but not save it back to the sharepoint site. Most other users work on their local computer with Office 2003.
