can any one tell me how to read the data's in the text file using sql server 2000 and 2008.
i have a text file in a server and it contains one column name with the multiple column values i need to read that informations and i need to update in a table in the database.
how can we do this.
I've just restored a db (MS SQL 2000) unto MS SQL 2008. All went well and the users for that db were also created. But they were created on the db level.
On the server level, these logins were not there. I tried to create them manually at the server level. When I try to assign the login to the db it understandably says that the user with the same name already exists in the db.
I tried dropping the login created in the db level but I can't do so as there is a schema in the database with the username.
How should I go about getting the same login unto 2008 without dropping any schemas as I am trying to keep everything the same as it was in 2000 for testing purposes in 2008.
Thanks in advance.

Hello, I am having some trouble upgrading an existing SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services installation from an old server to a new one commissioned for this purpose, which is running SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services. I have been following the instructions here:
but after trying to connect with reporting services 2008, i get this error:
The version of the report server database is either in a format that is not
valid, or it cannot be read. The found version is 'C.0.6.54'. The expected
version is '147'. (rsInvalidReportServerDatabase)
before starting the process, I ran upgrade advisor and got back the following results:
DescriptionSetup can upgrade a SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services instance that uses a SQL Server 2000 Database Engine in the same instance. However, upgrade is blocked if the report server database is in a different instance, on a remote instance, or runs on a remote SQL Server 2005 instance in SQL Server 2000 compatibility mode.******note, our reporting services IS in the same instance as the SQL Server 2000 database engine. However, upgrade advisor still reported that this instance can not be au
Hello we have a WSS 3.0 on a Windows Server 2003 with a single site, and we are trying to migrate it to another server with Windows Server 2008. All database are on a Microsoft SQL Server 2000.
We installed WSS 3.0 from scratch on the new server. We put the default databases on a server with Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
Then we made a backup in the production server with the following command: stsadm -o backup -url
https://portal -filename musa.bak
After that we restored the backup in the new server with the following command: stsadm -o restore -url
https://uymvd18 -filename c:\sharepoint\portal-2010-10-05-21-00-06.dat -overwrite
(portal is the name of the old server and uymvd18 is the name of the new one)
Everything worked ok, but the when we try to do a search in the new se
I plan to migrate a SQL 2000 instance with everything in it to another SQL2000 server, and eventually in the future to SQL 2005.
I've pretty much figured out how to migrate everything execept the linked server configuration (there're many linked servers configured in the old server with different security credentials).ÃÂ I'm wondering if there's way I can save the linked server configuration and restore it to the other server.
Could anyone tell me the features comparision between sql server 2000, 2005 and 2008 in the table format like below.

In SQL server 2000 and 2005, I used to have a nice practical list of all SQL Server sessions and list of locks with useful details make troubleshooting quite easy.
In SQL Server 2008 list of locks are taken out from the “Management” section of SSMS and there is a clumsy “Activity Monitor” option which
doesn’t provide information about sessions and locks in the nice way we used to have in SSMS 2005.
Using SSMS 2008, Is there any way to get the same list of locks and sessions similar to what we had in SSMS 2005?
