difference between Set Field in Current Item versus Update List Item?

Is there a technical different between Set Field in Current Item and  Update List Item if the field in the item being updated with in the same list the workflow is attached to?  It seems like there wouldn't be any difference - that you could use one or the other.  But I'm having trouble with my workflow.  It completes without error, but the field in my current list item isn't being updated (getting the value from another list in same site).
There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

ClickOnce: Deploy and Update Your Smart Client Projects Using a Central Server

ClickOnce is a new deployment technology that allows users to download and execute Windows-based client applications over the Web, a network share, or from a local disk. Users get the rich interactive and stateful experience of Windows Forms, but still have the ease of deployment and updates available to Web applications. ClickOnce applications can be run offline and support a variety of automatic and manual update scenarios.Learn all about it here.

SQL Server CE: New Version Lets You Store and Update Data on Handheld Devices

Handheld device users need to be able to synchronize with a main data store when it's convenient and, preferably, when the back-end database server isn't busy. SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition allows you to build a traveling data store that can be displayed and run on a variety of devices. SQL Server CE supports a subset of the full SQL Server package, and can be used as a standalone server or in tandem with SWL Server and IIS. The architecture of SQL Server CE, along with data manipulation, synchronization, and connectivity issues, are discussed in this article. Topics such as making your data public, choosing the right type of replication, and handling errors are also covered.

SharePoint Batch Update Auto Increment Field Value

Hello All,

I am making use of SharePoint List Batch Updating methodology in order to update the items in bulk. I build the query dynamically for each and every item using StringBuilder and process the data ultimately using 'ProcessBatchData' Method.

Now, I have a requirement where I have to increment a particular field value in the query while iterating through each item for building the query. How can I auto-increment a field value for each item in the batch query?

How to use server side validation to ensure image field is not null

I'm having trouble accomplishing the above. Below is all the mark up and code. I'm not getting error messages, but the validate image function is not working (fileupload portion is working ok).

In my attempt below---not sure if it's the simplest or best validation approach anyway---the "UserId" parameter appears during rendering to be empty---but in most methods I have it successfully containing or referring to the logged-in user's identification.

Following is the control that refers to the image field (page = advertisement.aspx):

<asp:Image ID="Image" runat="server" ImageUrl ='<%#Eval("UserId","Image.aspx?UserId={0}") %>'

Following is the successful code behind for the page image.aspx referred to above (page = image.aspx.vb):

Partial Public Class Image

Public Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load

SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) update is successful but repeats installin

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) (update 1 of 1) This update seems to be stuck in a loop of installing, each time it successfull installs acccording to automatic updates. Then says it requires installing again straight away. This has been happening for 10 days now. I have tried a manual update from the website rather than automatic updates, no change. Any ideas why? Have posted in Windows update which is where I think the problem lies but they have suggested I post here also.

Server-side validation on an Entity Framework required field (property) does not work!

Has anyone had issues getting server-side validation on an Entity Framework required field (property) to work? The data type is a string (nvarchar). Server-side validation for required fields of other data types WORK fine. Only string fields have issues. I get the following error on UpdateModel(obj); of my POST method within the controller. Exception Details: System.Data.ConstraintException: This property cannot be set to a  null value.Source Error: Line 4500:                OnTextChanging(value);Line 4501:                ReportPropertyChanging("Text");Line 4502:                _Text = StructuralObject.SetValidValue(value, false);Line 4503:                ReportPropertyChanged("Text");Line 4504:                OnTextChanged(); I've even tried data annotations like this but it seems to get ignored.     [MetadataType(typeof(ObjMD))]     public partial class Obj     {

Sys.Data.DataContext.saveChanges method doesn't send update to server after DataServiceException ex

Hello,I have a page with a simple form that updates a single record in a table in my database. The database is accessed via WCF Data Services. To load and save data from/to the server, I usethe Sys.Data.DataContext object provided by the ASP.NET AJAX library. When the "save" button on theform is clicked, I use the saveChanges method of the Sys.Data.DataContext object to send all changes to the server. Also, at the server side, I use an interceptor that checks the "Price" fields of the record, and throws a DataServiceException exception when the contents of the field is a negative number. Both the JavaScript and the interceptor (in C#) are copied below. Here is the interesting thing:When I enter a negative price in the form, the interceptor throws the exception and my form shows an error message. Good. However, if I then make one of the other fields in the form a bit shorter (for example from "abcd" to "abc"),the saveChanges method doesn't send the data to the server. But it does call the success callback that I passed in to saveChanges, creating the impressionthat the data has been saved. This happens while the Price field is still negative. I used Fiddler to make sure thatno message is sent to the server. Also, the interceptor doesn't get executed. The weird thing is that if I make one of the fields a bit longer instead (for example &q

Time difference : Hosting Server and client

hi All,I have asp.net/c# web project. How to manage the time difference between the server and clientFor instance, I am at India, and Server is located at UK. So if do any activity, like "comment on friend's photo" etc. the time stamps is UK's time. So if do some activity from India at 10.00 AM, the time stamp would be 5.00 AM. So if the user who sees his activity at 10.00 AM sees it as if it was done at 5.00 AM.If user whom he acted upon (like friend whose photo got the comment) too see 5.00 AM. this is ok if the friend is at UK, but causes confusion if he was at other time location like Australiahow to handle this
