SQL 2005 Enterprise, Windows XP Pro, VB6, Concurrent Users

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I am using a VB6 application as frontend on client machines and SQL 2005 Enterprise as backend database installed on Win XP Pro machine (4GB Mem/Core2Duo 2.6GHz).

Through the VB6 application, we use the following string to connect to SQL 2005 database.

login.connstring = "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Password=pwd123;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=sa;Initial Catalog=MYDB123;Data Source=XPProMachine"

The VB6 application, connects to the database, queries the database, displays the results, disconnect from database.

Installing SQL Server 2005 Enterprise in Windows 7 Professional

i have Windwos 7 Professional Installed in my computer. also i have installed Visual Studio 2008 as well.

last week i wanted to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition in my computer so i came to know that u need the SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 for this as well.

after obtaining both the Enterprise Edition Setup and the SP3 Setup of SQL Server 2005, i began the installation. first i installed the server. and selected The Server and Workstation components. but when the installation was progressing, it gave a message that the workstation componenets could not be installed and hence only the MSSQLSERVER Service got installed. i take think this so seriously hoping that client tools (workstation componenets) can be installed after the SP3 is being installed. so after the setup completed, i installed SP3 as well. even there, the client tools were disabled.

after SP3 installation and System Restart, i couldnt find Managament Studio; so i again went to the SQL server 2005 setup and selected the client tools to be installed. but just before the installation started, an error message prompted saying that "one or more componenets could not be installed" and then exiting the setup..

please advise what i am missing. i tried the same thing using SQL Server 2005 Standard but the same thing happens.

Intranet Users Challenged When Using Windows Integrated Security

We've setup an intranet site using Windows Integrated Security. Its up and running and users can access it. However, they are being challenged with a login dialog for the server when they initially access the site.

Isn't is possible to configure the server so that the users aren't challenged AND are recognized as being already authenticated by Windows? We're trying to go with a seamless experience, whereby all they have to do is login to their machine like normal and then go from there.

Windows Management Instrumentation: Administering Windows and Applications across Your Enterprise

This article provides an overview of Windows Management Instrumentation, a technology that exposes a wide variety of system and device information through a standard API. With WMI, management information is exposed by following the object oriented structure outlined in the Common Information Model (CIM), which relies on inheritance for reuse and standardization of object classes that represent system devices. This article briefly describes querying WMI for information using a query language much like SQL called Windows Management Instrumentation Query Language (WQL), existing system classes, handling system events, and security in WMI.

Forms based users being prompted for windows authentication login for My Sites photos in user lists

Here's an issue I didn't see coming for our forms based authentication users.

We have a web application extended to an external url to handle forms based authentication for users outside of our domain. Our setup looks like this...

Internal Users/Windows Authentication - moss.domain.com
External Users/Forms Based - mossext.domain.com
My Site for Internal Users - mysites.domain.com

When our forms based users are accessing user lists, or discussion pages that display user pictures, they are getting a windows authentication login for our internal users (mysites.domain.com) who have populated their my site with personal photo.

How do we fix this?

Can't connect to SQL 2005 Enterprise using Management Studio with Server Name (only (local) works

This is a test system, everything running locally & no domains. Win 2003 Ent. Server & SQL Server 2005 Enterprise. I can't log into SQL Server Management Studio using the server name & using either Windows Authentication or SQL login. If I change the name of the server in the drop-down list to "(local)", I connect just fine (both Windows & SQL security modes). Shared Memory, Named Pipes & TCP/IP enabled in both server & client. Remote connections allowed. I have IP adresses (both & external IP) in my hosts file pointing to the server name. Does SQL require a DNS server? This wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that I can't install SQL 2005 SP3 due to authentication failure since there's no way to enter (local) as the server name. SQL tools (management studio, SP install) seem to see the SQL server running but won't authenticate the user through any means other than setting server name to (local). This is driving me crazy!!!

SQL-Server 2005 x64 / windows server 2003 x64 crashes during file copy

Hi We are running: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard - 9.00.4294.00 (X64) Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 We have gigabit interface. Today we copied a file (using robocopy) from our databaseserver to another server (backup-server). The copy was started from the backup-server and source were specified using UNC. The copy were using about 20% of the bandwith (about 200Mbit). During the copy, sql-server reported several errors, for example: AppDomain 15 (mp.dbo[runtime].14) is marked for unload due to memory pressure. The client was unable to reuse a session with SPID 75, which had been reset for connection pooling. This error may have been caused by an earlier operation failing. Check the error logs for failed operations immediately before this error message. ***Stack Dump being sent to [PATH\SQLDump0005.txt Resource Monitor (0x1384) Worker 0x000000008000C1C0 appears to be non-yielding on Node 0. Memory freed: 0 KB. Approx CPU Used: kernel 15 ms, user 218 ms, Interval: 428541. So to me it appears that sql-server crashed during a file copy. We have 27 GB ram. With 24.5 GB dedicated to SQL-Server. The files we copied were quite large, some over 50GB. I found a similar issue about this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920739/ Do you think the issue above could be the cause of the sql-server crash? ///Patrik

ODBC connection to SQL Server 2005 Standard (on windows xp) with Windows authentication does NOT wor

I reviewed lots of postings, still could not find an answer. If I choose Windows authentication: - with TCP/IP and "Dynamically determine port" checked, I get the following error "The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection; - with Named Pipes, Server Name & Pipe Name as "VSAXAONG", I get two errors, one after the other on the same pop-up:       Connection failed  SQL State 01000  SQL Server Error 1385 [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [Named Pipes] ConnectionOpen (Connect()).       Connection failed  SQL State 08001 SQL Server Error 17 [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [Named Pipes] SQL Server does not exist or access denied. If I choose SQL Server authentication and fill in the password - the ODBC connection works fine. I have to say that I created two different logins on the server, one for Windows authentication, and one for SQL Server authentication - both for the same Windows user name. I would appreciate any help I can get on this.  Thank you all in advance.
