Expose data contract used in two services as a single type on client side?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WCF

I have a .dll that contains my data contracts and I reference this dll in two different services.

Now, on the client side I don't want to add this dll because I need both WPF-clients and Silverlight clients. So, what I want is to be able to use a single data contract on the client side and not with different namespaces for the different services. As I understand this should be possible but I don't know how.

Can someone explain how I can generate a single data contract on client side that can be used for calls to both services?

Thanks for help!

Client Side Data Manipulation

I have a web page that displays a listing of links.  A treeview control displays a hierarchy of tags with checkboxes that act as filters... when checked,  the list is 'filtered'.  This all works fine but what I really need is for this page to be lightning fast.  Right now, checking a box fires an event and a postback, etc.   I'm wondering if there is a way to do all of this on the client side.  For example, could you start out with a complete listing (dataset) of all possible hyperlinks,  and then apply filters to that list all on the client side so as to eliminate any lag/postback?

Dynamically (on client side) populating data control (repeater) when dropdown item is selected

Hello!I'm currently working on a project and I want to make as much things as possible performing on client side - with as little loading as possible. The project consist of three "main" pages. On one page I use jQuery DataTable plugin which is working great. One page has tabs (using jQuery). I want to put datacontrol (repeater) on this site and when  user selects one item in dropdown, data in repeater loads on client side, without performing the action on server.I wonder if this is possible and if somebody can give me some case to help with? Thanks!I hope I was clear enough. all the best

How to expose an enum type to a client via WCF if it isn't used as a param type in any service oper

Hi,   I want to 'expose' an enum type from my server via WCF so that my client can access it. This happens automagically if I use the enum as a parameter type within a service operation, however, what if the particular enum isn't part of any service operation?   In other words, I've defined serveral enums within my Server that are quite useful to my client (even though they don't appear in any of my paramter declarations for the service operations).   The only way I can get this to work is simply create dummy service operations that contains these enum's as arguments. The MEX page then exposes these types for my client to use, but this seems a bit naff.   Thanks   Paul.

Data Annotation not triggering the client side validation when used on an overriden model property

Hi all, This is a saga from a post that was recently answered:http://forums.asp.net/t/1598187.aspxMy main problem is the lack of client side validation when we use a child model class, the server side validation works like a charm whether you use the virtual/override solution or the new attribute on the child class with the getter and setter linking the property to the base class's one.The client side validation does not work with none of the solutions presented below. This is a sample code of the first solution: [Serializable] public class DateViewModel { ... [Display(typeof(App_GlobalResources.Messages), "Date_Year")] public virtual int? Year { get; set; } ... } [Serializable] public class BirthDateViewModel : DateViewModel { ... [Display(typeof(App_GlobalResources.Messages), "Date_Year")] [YearRange(ErrorMessageResourceType = typeof(App_GlobalResources.Messages), ErrorMessageResourceName = "Validation_Range")] public override int? Year { get; set; } ... } This is a code sample of the second solution : [Serializable] public class DateViewModel { ... [Display(typeof(App_GlobalResources.Messages), "Date_Year")] public int? Year { get; set; } ... } [Serializable] public class BirthDateViewModel : DateViewMod

In Reporting Services: Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermissio

Hello all,In Reporting Services through http://myserver/mydbinstance/Pages/Report.aspx blah de blah blah, I get this error:Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.Actually, the report runs just fine, but some fields had the famous #Error in them. I put some old fashioned debug in my report to TRY, CATCH, END TRY and get the problem to the report so that I could see this report finally run in production. Yes, it runs just fine in VS2005. I have custom code in the report code window that does its own custom connection to an SQL database through "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection" and "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand" to pull in data that is not part of any of the datasources in the report. When I execute the report through the Report Manager or Report site under IIS, the report will run, but I get these errors in every field that uses functions to populate the data.I have searched the web for 3 days now, and the best answers involve using either CASPOL or the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration wizard in Administrative Tools on the server. (I understand that the wizard does the same thing as CASPOL, just through a GUI.) I have followed those steps, but still get the error.I do not know what I need to do to make these DLLs th

How to insert SQL2008 date data type using ADODB.Recordset and Native Client?

I am working with a classic ASP application that we are trying to keep hobbling along while it gets rewritten.  The underlying database has been upgraded many times and is currently running on SQL Server 2008.

Recently a column of table was updated from a smalldatetime (with a check constraint to ensure it didn't have any time values) to simply the date type, but the code now does not work.  I was originally using SQLOLEDB, and was confident that treating the date as a string would be find with our client.  Unfortunately it does not, nor does it work using the SQLNCLI10 client.

This is the stripped down code:

Set adoConnection = aspServer.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
adoConnection.Open "Provider=SQLNCLI10"  ' Details Removed
Set adoRS = aspServer.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
adoRS.CursorLocation = adUseClient
adoRS.Open "SELECT * FROM TestTable WHERE id = 0", adoConnection, adOpenKeyset, adLockOptimistic, adCmdText
adoRS("datecolumn") = "09/20/2010"

On the update line, I get the following error:

Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 10.0 error '80040e07'

Excel Services data connection issue. Single environment, none authentication

I really need someone's help to configure my SharePoint 2007/ Excel services connectioon to SSAS 2008. It surely cannot be that complicated???

MOSS on server 1
SSAS 2008 cube on server 1
Trusted data provider created (OLE DB, MSOLAP.4)
Trusted data connection library created
Trusted File location created - children trusted, allow external data = "Trusted data connection libraries and embedded"
Unattended Service Account - setup

I use Excel and create a new .odc file with athenticated type = NONE and save it to the Trusted data connection library. Using the odc I open a new workbook. I firstly get a security warning saying that "MS Office has identified a potential security concern. Data connections have been blocked. If you choose to enable data connections..."

I click on Enable, and now have access to my cube. I create a pivit table and chart and publish the workbook back to a child folder in the Trusted File location. All okay so far!!

Now I open the new workbook, and as soon as I try and interact with it, I get the dreaded error "Unable to retrieve external data for the following connections:

The data sources may be unreachable, may not be responding, or may have denied you access

Change data type of library field from Single Line Text to currency

I have an InfoPath 2010 form that has a field listing the amount of currency on a meter. It is a Decimal form in Infopath but publishes to SharePoint as a Single Line of Text.  It will not let me modify the column in SharePoint and it will not let me select the allow edit from the Publishing Wizard.  I need the column as a currency so my Excel Queries work.

java/J2EE web services data type serialization compatiblity

Use jQuery and ASP.NET AJAX to build a client side Repeater

By sending only data to the client, you can profoundly reduce the size of what you send and see a substantial increase in performance. You also allow yourself the ability to easily add features like light-weight sorting and paging on the client. This can not only improve your users' experience, but reduce server load and bandwidth requirements.
