Unhandled exception in XAML editor from control that accesses database. - "System.Data.SqlServerCe.S

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF

Hello,

Im having a bit of difficulty with some WPF/C#/SQL Server CE code.

I have a WPF User Control with the following line of code in the constructor:

MyDatabase database = new
 MyDatabase("Data Source=|DataDirectory|\\MyDatabase.sdf"
 );

where MyDatabase is a class generated using SQLMetal.exe from MyDatabase.sdf.

When I added this control to other controls, the application runs fine and I'm able to access my database. When I try to edit these parent controls,  the XAML editor throws the following error:

>System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException
>The database file cannot be found. Check the path to the database. [ Data Source = D:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\MyDatabase.sdf ]

Why does the XAML editor redirect my DataDirectory to "D:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\" and why does the XAML editor execute my database access code?

How can I fix this so I can use this control in a XAML editor?

Thanks,

Greg S.

SQL Compact 3.5 Database Opening on Windows Vista - Unhandled Exception

I have written a Visual Basic 2008 application that utilizes SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5. On my Vista (32-Bit) development machine, I can install this application and have it connect to my SQLCE Database just fine. However, if I deploy the application to any other Vista computer (32-Bit or 64-Bit), I get the following error message when trying to connect to the database.

Unhandled exception has occured in your application.....

Opening a database as read-only requires a temp path to be specififed. [Db name = C:\users\bob\Documents\MyDatabase.sdf ]

The users who are running the application are in the local machine Administrators group. Running the application "As Administrator" does not resolve the issue.

I've used various connection strings suggested in other threads with no luck. The one I'm currently working with is:

Data Source=C:\users\bob\Documents\MyDatabase.sdf;File Mode=Read Only;Temp Path=%TEMP%;

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Character counter with Editor control?

Has anyone made this work?  I'm trying to implement a character counter that counts the total text and markup in the Content property of the Editor.  It's easy to do with a button control and feeding Editor.Content.Length to a label but that doesn't give the user a running count.

I tried several javascript character counters, including this one:

<script type="text/javascript">

      function pageLoad() {
      }

      maxL = 255;
      var bName = navigator.appName;
      function taLimit(taObj) {
          if (taObj.value.length == maxL) return false;
          return true;
      }

      function taCount(taObj, Cnt) {
          objCnt = createObject(Cnt);
          objVal = taObj.value;
          if (objVal.length > maxL) objVal = objVal.substring(0, maxL);
          if (objCnt) {
              if (bName == "Netscape") {
                  objCnt.textContent = maxL - objVal.length;
              }
              else { objCnt.innerText = maxL - objVal.length; }
          }
          return true;
      }
      function createObject(objId) {
          if (document.getElementById) return document.getElementById(objId);
          else if (document.layers) return eval("document." + objId);
          else if (document.all) return eval("document.all." + objId

Help with updating database with values from Repeater control using c#

Hello, I'm new to ASP.NET 3.5 with C#. I really need some help.

I used a Repeater control to create a simple (editable) list where, when a user logs in, they can edit their list of expenses.  The ASP page works fine.

 My issue is with the code-behind.  I am really confused with how to extract the values from the repeater control. The FindControl method does not seem to be working.  Also, the code I am using resets my 'Amount' values back to 0.00. (0.00 is the amount the user sees when they first encounter the page).

 Here's a portion of the code on the ASP page:

<asp:Repeater ID="Repeater1" runat="server" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1"

            onitemcommand="Repeater1_ItemCommand">

.

<ItemTemplate>

.

<td><asp:Label ID="lblExpId" runat="server"  Text='<%# Bind("ExpId") %>'></asp:Label> </td>

 <td><asp:Textbox ID="lblExpense" runat="server" Width= "190px" Text='<%# Bind("ExpenseName") %>'></asp:Textbox> </td>

 <td><asp:Textbox ID="txtAmount" runat="server" Width= "100px"

Hi All,       I have written a WCF service which is hosted as a Managed windows service. I consume this service in a web application. The service is built using a httpBasicBinding and security Mode ="none". I'm now getting the following exception, after which the service stops  "An unhandled exception ('System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception') occurred in CMMonitorService.exe [1812]. Just-In-Time debugging this exception failed with the following error: Debugger could not be started because no user is logged on." I had tried changing the security mode to Transport/Message. with windows credential then I get a access to the path denied error. Can anyone provide hint on what am I missing and what would be the appropriate security mode and client credential to use along with basichttpBinding?

Good day Sirs,   As the title is saying, I cant seem to connect to my SQL Server Express Database using "sqldatasource" control in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express Steps Taken: clicked "configure data Source" option in the Sqldatasource then "New Connection..." Changed my Data source: to " Microsoft SQL Server Database File (SqlClient) Here comes the problem: 1. I am choosing a Database file name but a problem keeps on popping:     "ServerName This file is in use: Enter a new name or close the file that's open in another program" 2. Then I tried to choose a detached database file (mdf) and it was attached now another problem pops:    "ServerPath cannot be opened becuase it is version 661. This server supports 655 and earlier.   I am using windows Home Edition: does it contribute to my problem? IDE hangs when loading the Fluent XAML Control page

Hi All, This question is related to the MS Fluent WPF RibbonControl samples at http://fluent.codeplex.com. My OS is Vista. But the Fluent suite 1.3 is supposed to be stable. Nevertheless, the 3.5 NET sample apps will execute OK... but when I try to view the "window.xaml" code page in the VS2008 Pro IDE, the page loader hangs (the devenv.exe process consumes 50% of the CPU time) and never completes. Is the IDE configured properly? I'm new to Fluent and just installed the Samples. Also, I installed and uninstalled the MS Ribbon Control samples for WPF. If anyone can help... Please do! Thanks, King

Adding XAML via control property

Hi, I'm attempting to create a custom chart control that has 1 or many line series within it. My question is, is it possible to create a property of that control, that when checked in the designer, will automatically add the line series xaml within the chart series? For example, if you click on the "Add Test Series" check box, which is of type boolean, it will then add <chartingToolkit:LineSeries /> into the xaml of the control as well as to the series of the control.   <local:TestChartControl> <chartingToolkit:LineSeries /> </local:TestChartControl>     Thanks
