Central Administration not Available, STSADM password reset errors "job-admin-apppool-change" alread

Hi Everyone,

I think I've shot myself in the foot by not properly following set up instructions.

I have a two-fold problem.  Firstly, my Sharepoint Central Administration V4 site is showing Service Not Available.  This seems to be related to the credentials the Central Administration V4 Application Pool - hitting Test Settings within IIS Manager for the site shows an Authentication and Authorization error for the credentials due to a bad password.

My reading indicates that I should run something to the effect of:

%STSADM -o updatefarmcredentials -userlogin DOMAIN\username -password <new password as set via AD>

This runs into the following Error message

Error deploying administration application pool credentials. Another deployment may be active. An object of the type Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPAdminAppPoolCredentialDeploymentJobDefinition named "job-admin-apppool-change" already exists under the parent Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPTimerService named "SPTimerV4".  Rename your object or delete the existing object.

Getting unknown errors in central administration. Site backups always fail. OWSTimer Errors.

Originally we had a 1 server standalone MOSS2007 install. (All service packs applied)

Then we added another server to the farm to act as a web server.

We decided to take the web server offline. So that ideally we would be back to our 1 server standalone setup. All our sharepoint sites still work fine after we did this, but things on the central administration side are horribly broken.

1. The web server still appears in farm topology even though it is offline, no longer exists. It also appears as "Windows SharePoint Services Database".

2. Trying to go into "Servers in farm" under Operations causes an unknown error.

3. Trying to go into "Timer job status" under Operations causes an unknown error.

The error log displays the following each time I try to access "Servers in farm" or "Timer job status"

OWSTIMER.EXE (0x199C) The following error occured while trying to read the ConnectionString property.  Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Now before I try to do some serious reconfiguration I would like to backup my sites. If I use the "Perform a backup" feature in central administration, it tells me the backup job has been scheduled, but after waiting for hours it still hasn't started, and doesn't look l

Turning off Crawling the Central Administration site?

There are 2 places that "Search Visibility" can be set on WSS3 servers:

Default > Site Settings > Search Visibility

Central Administration > Site Settings > Search Visibility

What are the ramifications of "hiding" the Central Administration site from search?

Can Web Services be blocked by Central administration ?

I am a Site Collection administrator. I am thinking of using Web Services (_vti_bin/Lists.asmx etc.,) and display some data regarding Lists, Permissions, SubSites on some pages. My question is whether accessing these web services at site level can be blocked by central administration or not. If they cannot be blocked, then I would like to go forward on what I have mentioned above. Can anyone please clarify. Thanks.

Central Administration no longer accessible by any account after changing Farm Account in SharePoint

I have a problem, that I no longer can access Central Administration Website, only the Sharepoint itself. I was running installation of Sharepoint 2010 Server with administrative account ImTheAdmin, who is a Domain Admin in the MYDOMAIN domain. Using ImTheAdmin I installed Sharepoint 2010 on one of the Windows 2008 R2 member servers. Besides that, I made ImTheAdmin the primary administrator of the Sharepoint. ImTheAdmin became the only user of this Sharepoint 2010 server after installation.  I installed everything on one box with default installation settings. I used builtin SQL server, not Standard or Enterprise. What then happened is: Using ImTheAdmin account, I opened Central Administration Website, and it said, that I need to change the Farm Account, as the account for Farm was the default one (I think it was network service). So I created a regular domain user in AD Users and Computers called MYDOMAIN\SPFarmAccount. Then using IE, I went to the Central Administration Website page, which is meant for changing farm account usernames. I put in MYDOMAIN\SPFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pressed Change. Browser worked for a while, and after that nothing seemed to work. Neither my Sharepoint, nor Central Administration website. When going to Central Administra

So I created a regular domain user MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccount. The account name was too long to be as a Windows 2000 name, so it showed there without last 't', e.g. MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccoun. I thought, Windows 2000 is long gone, so I didn't pay much attention, I think everywhere the account SID is important. I don't know if that is the real problem with my failure later, but it might be one of the reasons. I put MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pre

Claims to windows token service wont start in Central administration

Not sure if this is a bug or some setting I just dont understand but I cannot get the claims to windows token service from manage services to show as started. When I click start I get this error in the event viewer: An attempt to start/stop instance of service Claims to Windows Token Service on server <SERVERNAME> did not succeed. Re-run the action via UI or command line on the specified server. Additional information is below. c2wts (DOMAIN\sp_farm) I have searched and searched for an answer. This thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepoint2010setup/thread/6b865ead-970b-4460-9dcf-1cc6d6d8530b talks about needing a connection to the internet, but my server is connected to the internet so i think i can rule that out. Also I have read that c2wts depends on the crypto service. I have run this command with no success: sc config c2wts depend= cryptsvc I can start the c2wts service through services.msc and it is succesful. But central administration still shows it is stopped. I have also re-run the installer in repair mode, and re-run the initial configuration wizard, maintaining all of the same settings as the previous installation. That didn't help. Basically, I'm out of ideas and I cant find much about this on the web. Any ideas?

Central Administration Could not retrieve ISAPI filters

I am having trouble with CA. When I try to open it errors pops up in event viewer  - Could not load all ISAPI filters for site 'SHAREPOINT CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION V3'.  Therefore site startup aborted. - The update cannot be started because the content sources cannot be accessed. Fix the errors and try the update again. Context: Application 'Search', Catalog 'index file on the search server Search' SO I wanted to add those filters and I went to ISAPI filters of CA but whe I try to open ISAPI , I receive following error  Filename \\?\C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config , line number 3155 Cannot add duplicate collection entry of type 'filter' with unique key attribute 'name' set to 'ASP.Net_2.0.50727'  Config Source:  <isapiFilters>                 <filter name="ASP.NET_2.0.50727.0"  path="C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_filter.dll"  enableCache="true" preCondition="bitness32"/> <filter name="ASP.NET_2.0.50727.0"  path="C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_filter.dll"  enableCache="true" preCondition="bitness64"/>             </isapiFilters>

Reporting Services Sharepoint Add-in not showing links in Sharepoint Central Administration

Hi. I've just installed RS Sharepoint Add-in on Sharepoint farm and have the issue, that links to configure RS in Sharepoint are not showed in Central Administration Site->Application Management, and RS features can't be activated for web app. My configuration is: A separate DBMS on Windows 2008 SP2 x64, SQL 2008 SP1 x64, with MOSS and RS dbs. Web frontend: Win 2008 SP2 x64, Sharepoint 2007 SP2, RS 2008 SP1. What I did: installed RS and RS Sharepoint Add-in on web frontend, configured RS to Sharepoint mode (http://frontend:portnumber/Reportserver displays reports catalogs, reports shows message about configuring RS to Sharepoint mode), tried to set Sharepoint from central admin - links were not displayed. Reinstalled the add-in and tried to configure again - links not displayed. Reinstalled the add-in from the account used to install MOSS - links not displayed. Please help.

ASP.NET Ajax client-side framework failed to load = No Ribbon :( JS errors on Default and at Central

Looking for suggestions to why my ribbon crashed, and I'm unable to edit or add pages to my SharePoint 2010 Site.  Machine is Win7 Ultimate, IE8, SP2010 beta, VS2010 RC. Running a copy of Central Administration on a second server, how do you do this?

According to Microsoft's details on capacity management and planning below - you can have a copy of Central administration running on a second server, I always though you could only have CA running on one server. How do you have a copy running on a second server? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607864.aspx Quote from site - "App-2 is a dedicated Search query server. It also contains a copy of Central Administration and For high availability, Central Administration is also installed on a front-end Web server on another host." Obviously you don't run the installation software as you have multiple copies of the CA database and config databases but you couldn't have a restored site collection either as this would be out of date as soon as you installed it so how do they propose you do the above, they actually state having two copies and the original in the link above?

Backup through Central Admin fails; works using stsadm

Hi, I'm trying to schedule automatic backups of my SharePoint 2007 site.  I wrote a .vbs script that does the backup with the following line:   objShell.Run "cmd /c stsadm.exe -o backup -directory """ & BACKUP_DIR & SITE_DIR & """ -backupmethod full -item ""Farm\Windows SharePoint Services Web Application\SharePoint - SharePointSites"" > """ & CURR_DIR & "log.txt""", 0, True   I ran the vbs script from the command line and everything worked fine.  I used the Windows Task schedule to run the script as a scheduled task.  The script ran fine and the backup completed successfully (according to the logs), but now if I go to the Central Admin page and try to do a restore, I get the error:   The backup/restore job failed. In order to rerun the backup/restore the timer job must be deleted from the Timer Job Definitions page. Failure Message: Backup or restore is already running.   The odd thing is I can do another backup or restore using stsadm at the command line and it works fine.  I can also run the scheduled task to do another backup and that works fine too.  I just can't do any backups or restores from Cetnral Admin anymore.   Any suugestions or ideas? Thanks. -Cynthia

Lost access to Central Administration Page

After trying to troubleshoot why all the e-mail alerts stopped working, I ran the best practices analayzer and ran the commands it suggested the paragraph below. "The same account that you use to run SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration must be configured as the SharePoint Timer Service. If they are not the same, the system may not be able to send Alert Notifications and you will not be able to add a content database to a web application using the Manage Content Databases page. Although there are built in mechanisms to keep these accounts synchronized, it is possible to manually change the SharePoint Timer Service account. If the account that you are using to run SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration is the correct account, you can log on to the Web server where the SharePoint Timer Service running as the wrong account. From a command prompt change to the directory where the SharePoint Timer Service is running, this is typically C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN, and run the command: stsadm -o updatefarmcredentials -identitytype configurableid -userlogin domain\account -password password. Although you could directly update the SharePoint Time Server account by opening Administrative Tools, Component Services, you should use this approach only as a last resort.
