Activating Publishing Infrastructure at the Site Collection level

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

My task is to my company's branding solution to two new sites. I can upload the solution but I cannot activate it. I can't activate it because SharePoint Publishing is turned off on the sites. When I attempt to turn on SharePoint Publishing, I get this error:

The feature being activated is a Site scoped feature which has a dependency on a Site Collection scoped feature which has not been activated. Please activate the following feature before trying again: SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure f6924d36-2fa8-4f0b-b16d-06b7250180fa
The Site scoped feature being activated has a dependency on hidden Site scoped feature 'FeatureDefinition/22a9ef51-737b-4ff2-9346-694633fe4416' (ID: '22a9ef51-737b-4ff2-9346-694633fe4416'). Hidden features cannot be auto-activated across scopes. There may be one or more visible Site scoped features that auto-activate the dependent hidden feature.

I can't seem to locate the Publishing Infrastructure feature. The Site Collection List provides information about each site collection but no access to their features. How do I turn on Publishing Infrastructure?

Why they disable the top level site collection? for what purpose?

Programmatically activating an admin-approved form template to a site collection?

I am currently programmatically generating infopath forms with code-behind, and for each generated form, I need to be able to host the form template as a content type. Since I have a farm solution, I know that I would usually have to publish manually to admin-approved form template as opposed to form libraries or content types directly and afterwards create content types which reference those form templates. I was wondering what I would need to do to achieve the following results:

1) Programmatically activate a form template to a site collection (this is the big question mark for me)

2) Programmatically generate a content type which references said form template (I believe I already have this part down using the SP Object Model)

The environment I am building in uses SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Edition, InfoPath2010, .NET 3.5, VS 2010.

Any assistance would be MUCH appreciated.

SharePoint 2007 activating Office SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure

We turned on the Office SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure feature on our MOSS 2007 (after we already had sites created) to allow users to be able to use features like excel services and reporting which both require this be activated the Publishing feature to be turned on,  In order to do this you have to activate the Office SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure feature at I beleive the top level site, however when we activate this feature it changes the templates and navigation for all the existing SharePoint sites in our collection.

Is there a way to turn this feature on with out impacting existing site sites?  Or am I doing something wrong that is causing this to happen?  Basically I need to know how I can activate this option (Office SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure) to just specific sites but not all or turn it on so it does not impact all sites?

permissions at the site collection level

I am the collection administrator of a site collection called "Teams" .  By default, when the collection was created, Teams Owners, Teams Members and Teams Visitors was created.  Do these permissions only apply to the site collection "home" page, or do they apply to any new sites added to the collection (unless inheritance is broken during the creation of those other sites in the collection)?

There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what your are trying to accomplish.

Added Metadata (Taxonomy) to Document Type at Top Level Site Collection; How to break inheritance at

We're really loving the ease with which we can add site columns to content types, and have them propagate through all lower-level sites. This is awesome, especially when combined with taxonomy in the term store!

However, our Intranet is to feature a publishing site with subsites to house inter and intra-departmental, private working groups who develop material outside of the public Taxonomy term store and outside of traditional requirements for taxonomy data. This covers a specific area of navigation; the RED HIGHLIGHTED navigation and sub-navigation (not pictured) should all exist without the taxonomy column requirement required of all other sites and subsites.

Example: http://ctnation.citizenschools.net/DotNetNuke/images/WOW_Sample.jpg

In building the site template for the Workspaces sites, I want to remove all requirements for all content types for the public-site-wide-taxonomy. However, when I edit the content types at the sub-site level, there seems to be no ability to break inheritance from the parent information, and thus, all content types require the taxonomy column (as defined at the root-site level).

Given the need to remove the site column from all content types, libraries and lists in this Work

Activating Publishing Feature for Team Site Template in SharePoint 2010

A new site collection has been created and uses SharePoint 2010 team site template. How can you activate the publishing feature on it?

I have activated the publishing feature at site collection and site level but I still can edit pages etc without requiring check out and approval/publishing. There are probably settings I need to activate on other doc libraries but I wanted to know the best practice for this scenario and how to configure it.

External Data Option Not at Site Collection Level

Hello all,

It appears that I can only create an External Data field at the library level for a content type. Can anyone validate if this is true. Following a good practice of creating all content types and site columns at the Site Collection I used for my Content Type Hub allows me to create content types/columns only once and have them sent across to any libraries they have been added to.

In the current scenario, if I need to use a Content Type with External Data, in lets say, 12 other libraries, I have 12X the work!

SharePoint Server Publishing feature--Can't activate on site (activated fine at site collection lev

I have five site collections and one of them seems to have an issue with the SharePoint server publishing feature, which is activated at the site collection level. On any of the sites underneath that site collection, the Server Publishing feature is not activated and throws this error when I try to activate:

One or more field types are not installed properly. Go to the list settings page to delete these fields.

Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation.

Correlation ID: f1915aff-39e6-4e99-ba2f-34faf71f3102

If I try to create an Enterprise Wiki, I get the same thing:

One or more field types are not installed properly. Go to the list settings page to delete these fields.

I won't be able to create the wiki until I can get the SharePoint Server Publishing feature activated.

Any one have any ideas? the other 4 site collections are fine.

Custom Timer Job provisioned at Site Collection level

Is it possible to have a custom timer job provisioned at the site collection level?  In writing my custom spjobdefinition, it looks like you can only create the timer job at the web application level:

    public KBRankingTimerJob(string jobName, SPWebApplication webApplication)
      : base(jobName, webApplication, null, SPJobLockType.ContentDatabase)
      this.Title = jobName;

My feature receiver is defined as a site collection feature, so I can activate it at a site collection level, but my timer job is being provisioned and running once for each content database within the web application (it seems).  I'd like the timer job defined for just one particular site collection (the one the feature receiver is activated at).  Is this possible?  Or am I stuck at the web app level?

If I am stuck at the web app level, how has anyone created a timer job to run against 1 particular list within a site?

Top-Level Search Scope not showing in Sub-Site

I've got a site 'B' created under site 'A' in SharePoint. When I'm at Site A, I can search and find things that exist in both A&B. However, when I'm in B, the 'highest' search scope I can pick is 'B.' I'd like to be able to select one step higher so that I can search A&B from any page. Is this possible?

Site Collection Usage Summary: No Data Available

Usage analysis processing is enable for my farm in both Central Administration and in the SSP.

I've checked TImer Job Status and the three timer jobs responsible for doing the log analsis are all running.

I've also checked the log file locations and the log files are being generated.

Yet when I browse the "Site collection usage summary" report (SpUsageSite.aspx) I get the following:

No data is available for this report. Usage analysis might have been enabled only recently, or there might have been insufficient usage to result in any values for the report.

My farm is running 2007 Enterprise SP2 (

Can someone confirm if this issue was fixed with one of the CU's that were issues post-SP2?

Site Collection Usage Report Include Outlook?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if the Site Collection Usage Report includes activity that occurs from Outlook? For example, if a user contributes to a discussion board without ever physically touching the site or if the user just reads list content from Outlook, is this included?

ANY help at all is greatly appreciated.

Portal Search Work - Site Collection Search Does Not

In our SharePoint installation we have an SSP which indexes local office sharepoint server sites.  However there is a problem, although we can do portal searches which reveal search results it is not able to do local searches at the site collection level and as a result we are presented with the typical error below.

No results matching your search were found.

  1. Check your spelling. Are the words in your query spelled correctly?
  2. Try using synonyms. Maybe what you're looking for uses slightly different words.
  3. Make your search more general. Try more general terms in place of specific ones.
  4. Try your search in a different scope. Different scopes can have different results.

I am unsure as to why this strange event is occuring.  We do not have the WSS Search component running in the MOSS environment as the SSP service should be able to index and server search queries at the portal and local site collection level.

Any thoughts to this?
