Import from web service into MOSS user profiles

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

We have a problem which is kinda explained in this article:

We have company portal MOSS 2007 based, and a HR database (not sql server based) which has all employee data. Right now this data is manually typed into Active directory when new employee is hired, then it gets imported into MOSS (automatical import).

We would like, for example, to import birth date, which has no field for in AD, directly from HR, and we also would like to import other fields from HR database. I can write custom web services in the HR base to give out this data.

I tried to read the article above but i understood nothing. Author tells to write some xml but i dont understand where do i put that xml. And it seems that he is importing from SQL server database but in my case it will be an xml output of a web service!

There is also an article by the author about writing custom code  here

User Profiles Service Application and Import of SharePoint 2007 SSP data

I have setup a test SharePoint 2010 Farm. I will be using this as a test upgrade of a current live SharePoint 2007 Farm. The database attach method will be used. I have replicated the web application and AAM settings of the SharePoint 2007 Farm to the SharePoint 2010 Farm and have made the 2010 Farm a DC in a new Forest. I don't want to join this to the current domain at the moment. It also has SQL server 2005 with SP3 and cumulative update 3 installed. I have just setup the User Profiles Serice Application and when I go to Manage it, I get this. Error An unexpected error has occurred.   Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation. Correlation ID: a1760e87-372f-4711-afac-3ceba34bc599 Date and Time: 8/31/2010 4:22:56 PM I have verified and configured the following. Created the Managed Metadata Service. The status is started via Service Applications and Services on Server. Created the User Profiles Service Application and ensured status is started via Service Applications. I started the User Profile Service and User Profile Synchronisation Service via Manage Services on Server.

SharePoint 2010 Server: Cannot manage all user profiles from upgraded MOSS SSP database

I have upgraded an SSP database to SharePoint 2010 and successfully performed User Profile Synchronization with Active Directory, however I cannot manage ALL of the user profiles in the database. I go to "Manage User Profiles" in Central Administration and perform a filtered search (i.e. I want all DOMAIN accounts beginning with "j" so I search for "DOMAIN\j" in Manage User Profiles), but I don't receive ALL the user profiles back. I receive about 8 in return when I know there are about 20 starting with "j". If I create a new AD account beginning with "j" it is successfully synched with SharePoint 2010 and I see it in the Manage User Profiles. I ran an stsadm -o sync to clear any old synchronization information, and the Forefront Synchronization Service appeared to pull in many changes to existing accounts (including ones I can't currently manage), but I still cannot manage them using "Manage User Profiles". I really need to be able to manage all the profiles so I can manually edit some fields. Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance.

Automatic deletion of "missing from import" user profiles ?

Hi everybody!Can someone help me about his subject.When I delete a user in AD, he is marked as "missing from import" in MOSS user profile database after a full import.I read that for SPS2003, after the 3rd full import, if the user is still missing, he is automatically deleted from MOSS user profile database.I tried with MOSS2007, but the automatic deletion does not seem to work.Is there something to configure in order to make it work, or how to make the deletion automatic ?Thanks a lot for your answers.jerome

How do we create new User Profile Synchronization connection so that we can import profiles from AD

We have a requirement to authenticate users against Active Directory LDS in our SP 2010 farm and also import their profiles in user profile store. We are able to setup FBA using AD membership provider to authenticate against AD LDS.

I am interested in importing the users in AD LDS to SharePoint user profile store.

When I try to create a new connection the options that I am provided are
1. Active Directory
2. Active Directory Logon Data
3. Active Directory Resource.
4.SunOne (LDAP) 5.2
5.Novell eDirectory (LDAP) 8.7.3
6.IBM Tivoli (LDAP) 6.2

If I select any of the options 1/2/3 I am asked to provide Forest Name and Domain Controller name. Since this is AD LDS there is no Forest or Domain Controller. It’s just a generic LDAP server.

So the question I am struggling with is: what are the steps required to create a User Profile Synchronization connection to import users from AD LDS and not from AD DS?

We are not able to find any information how to do that in SP2010… From other blog entries I am assuming it was supported and documented for MOSS2007.

There is NO “LDAP Directory” connection type in SP2010.

I am wondering if this is supported in SP2010.

Could not import user profiles from AD

I set up a new MSS2010 farm. I struggled with some errors such as User profile synchronization service stuck at "starting" etc., and set everything I know about. The user profile application works, I have My site host set, the user profile sync connection established, BUT...when I try syncing the profiles, only 2 profiles are imported, out of 70 in the domain.

I dont have any clue where to look. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Multiple User Profiles Service Applications

We are trying to split our MySite users into two different groups due to their physical location. First group will be at Location A and their profiles will be in their local SQL box, second group will be at Location B and their profiles will be in their local SQL box. Two locations are connected by a VPN tunnel.

So we created two MySite hosts, Audience groups, and added Trusted Host Locations. Then we realized that on top of existing User Profile Service Application A (used for Location A) we needed another User Profile Service Application B for a second location (Location B). After creating second User Profile Service Application we went to Configure Synchronization Connections but everytime we clicked on Create New Connection we got the following error:

"Cannot navigate to the requested page because User Profile Synchronization service is not running. Please start the User Profile Synchronization service before creating a connection."

But if we try to add connection to the the existing User Profile Service Application A it works fine. We triple checked that service in question is running. We did notice that User Profile Service Application A is running Profile Synchronization Instance on

Error upgrading MOSS 2007 SSP database/user profiles to 2010

I am trying to use the new-spprofileserviceapplication powershell script to do a db attach/upgrade of my 2007 SSP to upgrade the user profiles.

New-SPProfileServiceApplication -applicationpool User_profile_service_app_pool -Name "User Profile Application" -Profiledbname prodsspconfig2 -Profiledbserver dbname\int

It gets a certain way and then errors out with the following error:

Problem Import Pictures into User Profiles from Active Directory

I have problems with getting the pictures from Active Directory (Field "thumbnail Photo") into my Sharepoint User Profile Store and displaying it in the MySites.

Profile Synchronization is working fine, the field Picture is mapped to thumbnailPhoto.

Then for finishing the process I execute the following powershell command:

Update-SPProfilePhotoStore -CreateThumbnailsForImportedPhotos 1 -MySiteHostLocation "http://mysite.vz.ch/my"

I execute this command under the user context from the account which has all the necessary AD-Rights. I do this with "start-job -Credentials $cred -ScriptBlock $sb" where -Credentials for the AD Sync Account and $sb for the above Powershell Script (Update-SPProfile....).

For this I had to give rights to the sync account on the user profile service application (administrator and permission button, I know). Also I had to give "db-owner"rights on the Configuration Database and also on the MySite Database for this sync account. I found this out via ULSLogViewer.

Now it is working as far that the scripts enumerates all user profiles and tries to process the images. But in ULSLogViewer I have the following error message:

"Error processing the photo URL User Photos/Profile Pictures/0c37852b-34d0-418e-91c6-2ac25af4be5b_652.jpg for user ZH01\BEr: System.U

How to fill out a form as another user , while using profiles database

I have created an InfoPath 2007 form. It works great.. I have 5 data connections to sharepoint lists and profile's database. The form displays public data (profile database) about the user, such as name, manager.. etc.

What I would like to do is have an option on the form that says " If you are not this person , click here" , manually type the persons last name , and bring up their information.

Basically , there are some people who will have someone else fill the form out for them. But I don't want them to be giving out their username and password to the system.

I want the ability to fill out a form as another user without logging off sharepoint.

BDC User Profiles

HI I have a database table which has three columns "username", "certificate" and "date_objected". One employee have multiple certificates.

in the User Profiles I want to mapped with username and display all certifcates that this employee have.

Anyone have any suggestions/samples on how to do this? I was able to display one-to-one fields but I am stuck with one employee to display multiple rows.

Any good samples out there?

stsadm Import command + include user security

When I move sites from test to staging to production, I am using the stsadm –o export command with the –includeusersecurity option in the staging environment.  In production environment, I then use the stsadm –o import command with the –includeusersecurity option.  I was assuming that this option was bringing over the security on the exported site only.  This does not seem to be the case.

Last night I exported one sub site to produtction.  Today, I was notified that the security groups on other sub sites have been altered.

So why is it when using the –includeusersecurity option effect all sub sites and not just the one sub site being moved from staging to production

Crawler fails to register date properties of user profiles with the month of January, April, August

This seems to be a bug when the crawler search the user profiles in MOSS 2007.  When crawled, user profiles with a SPS-HireDate in the months of January, April, August and December will be detected, but a full-text (SQL) search returns those profiles without the HireDate field.

User profiles with HireDates in other months work correctly, returning the HireDate in the search.  And changing the month of a problematic user profile also fixes the problem.

This problem is also reflected in the fact that while we have 499 user profiles using the SPS-HireDate property,  the managed property page from the search section only has 350 items with the HireDate property.

We're running MOSS 2007 32bit with SP2 with an English language base and the Spanish language pack. I'd considered date format problems, but I can't imagine how some months would work, while others wouldn't.

Any ideas?

Error Consuming Web Service - Unable to import binding xxx from namespace ...

In VS2008 / C# / ASP.NET 3.5, I wrote a test web service app. Here is an extract from the code:

namespace emed.MathWebService
    /// <summary>
    /// Sample Math Services For Learning Web Services Deployment
    /// </summary>
    [WebService(Namespace = " http://localhost/MathService")]
    [WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)]
    public class MathService
        public float Add(float a, float b)
            return a + b;

I have published this to an IIS virtual directory named MathService, and when I try to launch it with the URL http://localhost/mathservice/MathService.asmx is works fine and displays all the operations (Add, Subtract etc) in the service.

I then created a test web application in VS2008 (named WebSvcTe

WCF Service stops after throwing a unhandled exception :no user is logged on.

Hi All,       I have written a WCF service which is hosted as a Managed windows service. I consume this service in a web application. The service is built using a httpBasicBinding and security Mode ="none". I'm now getting the following exception, after which the service stops  "An unhandled exception ('System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception') occurred in CMMonitorService.exe [1812]. Just-In-Time debugging this exception failed with the following error: Debugger could not be started because no user is logged on." I had tried changing the security mode to Transport/Message. with windows credential then I get a access to the path denied error. Can anyone provide hint on what am I missing and what would be the appropriate security mode and client credential to use along with basichttpBinding?
