How to legally install OWSSUPP.DLL from Office 2007 in an Office 2003 environment.

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

There's one important subtlety in the Office 2007 Microsoft Sharepoint Client Support module (OWSSUPP.DLL) that isn't present in the Office 2003 version: when you click on a document link, you get a prompt asking you whether you want to just open the document Read-Only or check it out and edit it.

What I'd like to do is install Office 2007 OWSSUPP.DLL in a workgroup of about 50 people. But I'd like to do this *legally* and in such a way that it's not viewed as a hack.

Does anyone here know how to do this?

Thanks in advance

Sharepoint 2003 + Windows Terminal Server 2008 + Office 2007 problem?

Hi, We have a customer where some users runs Windows Terminal Server 2008 with Office 2007. They open documents from a Sharepoint 2003 site. When they open an excel sheet they get a button in the document which says "Server workbook: Click edit workbook to edit this workbook" and there is a button: "edit workbook" The users clicks "edit workbook" but get an error message saying there is no connection to the server.  They are able to edit the document, but not save it back to the sharepoint site. Most other users work on their local computer with Office 2003. Here, everything works fine and there are no button/message stating its a server workbook.   Is this caused due to some compatability issues between Sharepoint 2003 and Office 2007?   Best regards, Thomas Hansen ErgoGroup AS

When attempting to install "Security Update Microsoft for the Microsoft 2007 Office system updates (updates KB2277947 and KB982331)" the sintallation fails and then I recieve the error "The detection failed, this can be due to a corrupted installation database". System Info: XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3 Intel Atom CPU N270 @ 1.60 GHz I am running XP and have installed and run the "Fit It" tool, to no avail. I even tried downloading each update individually, from the Microsoft site, instead of through the automatic update. I also read this same question posted by another user (link: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/cfa66cd3-2aa2-44ee-9393-ffae41d4f70c/) only to find his info contained no answer either. How do I fix this so that I can get these updates installed?

Explorer View within Sharepoint 2007/IE7 stops working when activating an Office 2010 install.

Has anyone else experience this issue:

Office 2010 is installed on a machine with IE7 running on it.

Explorer view within Sharepoint 2007 and IE7 works fine

Office 2010 requires a product key change from a temporary key from the initial install to a permenant key.

The permenant key is installed and suddenly Explorer view within Shrepoint stops working?

problem copying list item containing office 2007 files, fine with office 97-2003 format

I created 2 document libraries, with a few fields in it, one of it is the people and group field named "Approver".  The thing is, when the document is of 97 - 2003 format, the approver field gets copied over fine, but when is of 2007 format, it does not get copied, its only the people and group column, I tried different names like Hidden_Approver, but yet it does not get copied. Am I doing something wrong here, and have anyone else faced the same error
