I think these Workflow related questions should go here

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 22, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I posted these in another forum but just discovered this workflow area so I'm hopeful this is a better target audience to ask these questions to:

1)      When in a workflow an email notice is sent to multiple people that a document needs to be reviewed is there a way to do the following:

a.       If notice is sent to 4 people and person #2 accepts the task, can a file be “checked out” or “locked” in some way so that the other three people cannot edit the document or accept the task?  Is there a way to notify the other three that that person #2 has accepted the task?

Workflow is clearing a non related field upon update

Hello :)

I have a custom workflow in SPD that updates a field "Approved by" when another field "Review Date" = "today". This feature works fine, however at the same time, it clears the "Review Date" field, which is not what I want to happen. I don't have any actions in the workflow to clear the field, any ideas as to why this is happening? I can see that it happened at the same moment in the version history of the document.

Multiple questions about Workflow Designer

I have following questions:

1. I have Toolbox for Activity where I have Activities listed and on right side I have designer where Workflow designer is placed. From my Toolbox I can drag and drop Activites into designer It works fine. Now to increase the usability experience I want to double click on Activity in toolbox and it should be added automatically into desinger as the last activity in sequence workflow ? How can I do this ?

2. I have long running workflow which runs for 3-5  minutes; I want to give flexibility to end user to Cancel/Stop/Abort workflow while workflow is in execution. How can I do this ?

3. I am using Toolbox where I have listed down activities; at top of Toolbox it gives Searchbox; This search box gives search based on first letter; now I want to search for anywhere in the text...

Display Related Data in an ASP.NET GridView

Typically when you display a datagrid you will want to show data from a related table. There are 3 different ways to accomplish this with NetTiers. You can use a custom stored procedure, deepload functionality from the code behind, or a strongly typed datasource control. We'll provide an example of each

Free Series of SharePoint Workflow How-to Videos

This is the series of "How to" Document Workflow with SharePoint using Visual Studio 2008 (using the .NET Framework 3.0 for backward compatibility to Visual Studio 2005). I have created video's that show the most common requests that I have seen around MOSS/SharePoint 2007 workflow & document workflow.

C# Interview Questions

C# Interview Questions
This is a list of questions I have gathered from other sources and created myself over a period of time from my experience, many of which I felt where incomplete or simply wrong. I have finally taken the time to go through each question and correct them to the best of my ability. However, please feel free to post feedback to challenge, improve, or suggest new questions. I want to thank those of you that have contributed quality questions and corrections thus far.

There are some question in this list that I do not consider to be good questions for an interview. However, they do exist on other lists available on the Internet so I felt compelled to keep them easy access

Linq qry with order by basic questions

I have never tried a group by with linq, now I do and I'm stuck.

I try to convert this sql statement to its linq counterpart :

SELECT COUNT(tb_Mailer_Smses.Id) AS [cnt], tb_Mailer_mailing.Id As [Id]
,SUM( CASE WHEN tb_Mailer_smses.DLRStatus = 200 THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) As [Delivered]
FROM tb_Mailer_mailing INNER JOIN
tb_Mailer_Smses ON tb_Mailer_mailing.Id = tb_Mailer_Smses.MailingId
WHERE tb_Mailer_mailing.ApplicationId = 1
GROUP BY tb_Mailer_mailing.Id

Is there some one who can me show me the convertion process ?

How to display related tables in one crystal report and how to link this report with combobox?

Hi! I want to display a crystal report in my vb.net application. Suppose I have tables named student details, student marks, student address, etc... Now if I want to display all these details (fields of all tables) in one crystal report (with page breaks if necessary) then how will I achieve it. I will be providing a combo box in my application that contains list of student names. How can I link this combo box with the cystal report to dynamically display report for different student on selected index change of combo box? Help me friends. An example would be appreciable.

Questions about getter and setter

I created a getter and Setter in Visual Basic. I have some questions though. Please look at the code below.
Here are my questions.

A.) At line 1 below, should "pieces" be declared as Private?
B.) In the IDE at lines 4 and 7 the IDE keeps changing those variables to uppercase so that the property name "Pieces" is the
same as the variable name "pieces".Should I instead define the integer pieces with an underscore: _pieces ?
That is the only way I can get around the IDE forcing the variable to become uppercase.

1  Dim pieces As Integer

2  Public Property Pieces() As String
3  Get

4  Return pieces
5  End Get

6 Set (ByVal values As String)
7   pieces=value
8 End Set
9 End Property

Workflow Services: Visual Design of Workflows with WCF and WF 4

The .NET Framework 4 makes it easier than ever to implement WCF services using WF. We'll demonstrate just how easy it is by modeling a long-running, durable and instrumented workflow based on a real-world business case without having to write any code.

Foundations: Workflow Services for Local Communication

This month's column describes how to use WCF for communication between a workflow and a host application in Windows Workflow Foundation 3. This knowledge should help developers with their efforts using WF3 and prepare them for WF4, where WCF is the only abstraction over queues (referred to as "bookmarks" in WF4) that ships with the framework.

Foundations: Windows Workflow Design Patterns

Design patterns provide a common, repeatable approach to solving software development tasks, and many different patterns can describe how to accomplish a certain goal in code. When developers begin working with Windows Workflow Foundation (WF), they often ask about how to accomplish common tasks with the technology. This month's column discusses several design patterns used in WF.
