2005 SP3 Cumulative Update

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I noticed that cu should apply to affected system that with specific issues with fixes.  cu4 contains fix that allow to use "Locked pages in memory".  Is that safe to apply cu just for that?

Cumulative update 1 for SQL 2005 SP3 issue

Lately i applied CUmulative update 1 for SQL 2005 SP3 in one of our production sharepoint database clusters.Today some users reported that they cannot open the macro's enabled excel spreadsheets in sharepoint. spreadsheets that do not have macros or other file formats do not have any problem.I wanted to check if this issue could be due to SQL CU1 patching.

Please help.

SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) update is successful but repeats installin

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) (update 1 of 1) This update seems to be stuck in a loop of installing, each time it successfull installs acccording to automatic updates. Then says it requires installing again straight away. This has been happening for 10 days now. I have tried a manual update from the website rather than automatic updates, no change. Any ideas why? Have posted in Windows update which is where I think the problem lies but they have suggested I post here also.

MSAS 2005 vs 2008 - different results of an UPDATE CUBE instruction

Hi ALL!   When moving from SSAS2005 to SSAS2008 I have a problem with write enabled cubes. On SSAS2005 UPDATE CUBE instruction occures almost instantaneously but on SSAS 2008 this takes few seconds. I created a cube with one dimension and one measure for testing. No aggregations, fact table initially empty, measure has 3 elements. Profiler shows that SSAS2008 UPDATE CUBE instruction initiates cube processing, but SSAS2005 doesn’t do this. What's wrong? Please, help! SharePoint 2010 Cumulative Update - Install sequence - Foundation required or not?

For a SharePoint 2010 Server (not Foundation) environment, is it necessary to install the Foundation Cumulative Update as well as the Server Cumulative Update?  (In the same way that with 2007, you install the WSS update and then the MOSS update) The nearest I have found to an answer is here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sharepoint/ff800847.aspx where it says 'We recommend that you always install SharePoint Foundation 2010 patches before installing SharePoint Server 2010 patches. This best practice ensures that you will always be successful when installing updates.'   In this regard, should 2010 Foundation be thought of as a pre-req, or underlying component, for 2010 Server?   The same question applies to the use of the Updates folder in the install media - for a Server install, should we be extracting both the Foundation and Server Cumulative Updates there, for a correct slipstreamed install?   Thanks.   Rob

Problem installing Cumulative Update 6 for SQL 2008 SP1 on Windows XP

I am attempting to apply SQL Server 20008 SP1 Cumulative Update 6 on my Windows XP desktop. The update executable is unpacked and I get a brief flash of a Command Screen and then nothing. I have searched for any update files but have not found any. My Desktop Configuration: Windows XP SP3, Windows Installer 4. SQL Server 2008 SP1 Developer Edition. I am also attempting to install the Client Tools for SQL 2008R2 on this same desktop and am getting the same results. I click on SETUP and get a brief flash of the Command Screen and the installation does not continue. Internet searches speak of a problem with a registry entry in the Boostrap Key for a valid Setup directory, but this key exists in my desktop registry. Thanks,

Cumulative Update Webcasts

Is Microsoft planning to have CU webcasts (like Project/Project Server) to describe the CUs in more detail and allow Q & A?  It is VERY useful and informative.BT

Version not changed after installing Cumulative Update

I installed the August Cumulative Update, but the version number didn't update on my system.  The install processed successfully (at least no errors showed up).  How do I confirm the installation?

Thank you.

SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 available on Microsoft Update (MU)

Service Pack 2 for SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2005 Express, Server 2005 Server 2005 Express Advanced, and Server 2005 Express Toolkit has been published to Microsoft Update at http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx.

If a SQL Server 2005 component is not on SP2 then the SP2 update will be offered for each language and platform that we support. This update is only available as an optional update on the Microsoft Update web site. To see the update you need to choose "Custom" scan.

The Express updates; Express, Express Advanced, and Express Toolkit will be automatically download and installed, if you have accepted to receive updates through Microsoft Update and you have enable automatic updates on you Windows machines. You can also see the update directly on the Microsoft Update web site.

All of these updates will be available through WSUS so an IT admin can control deployment of these updates through their enterprise.

Customers can optionally obtain SQL Server SP1 through Microsoft Update if they hide the SP2 update.

Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 (KB970892) could not be installed

Auto updates picked up this update to install but it wouldn't install. I tried doing it manually with no success. Anyone run across this?I have the service pack 2 with updates already. What would cause this?

Cumulative Update 5 - wrong SQL 2008 version number

Hi all,

I installed Service Pack 1 for SQL 2008 on one of my servers. This server has multiple instances. In this case, it is the instance "SHAREPOINT2010" that is giving me difficulties.

For Sharepoint 2010, we need to install cumulative update 5. This update fails due to the fact I do not have the correct SQL version. It is expecting version 10.0.2531 (SP1), but it says I have the 10.0.1600 (RTM). When I check in my management studio and via the @@version, I do see the confirmation I have version 10.0.2531. (also see attached screenshot).

Does anyone know why the cumulative update fails to see the correct server version ? If I try to install it on another SQL 2008 SP1, it works fine..;

Thank you !

Removing SQL 2008 R2 Cumulative Update 3

Cumulative Update 3 completely destroyed my SQL 2008 R2 installation.  We were hoping it resolved some of the issue we are seeing with R2 but unfortunately now SQL will not start.  Is there any way to completely remove cumulative update 3 from the server?  We are running SQL 2008 R2 on Server 2008 r2 x64.

Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

SQL Cumulative Update Failing

I installed a new Virtual Machine running Server 2008 and SQL 2008 on a 2 node Cluster.  This was to replace an existing Virtual running the same (which we had issues with so decided to replace).  Once I installed SQL on the Primary Node I then installed SQL Service Pack 1 which installed fine.  The next step was to install Cumulative Update 5 (we are using this version as its the only one we have fully tested with all our Databases).  However it would not install this Cumulative Update, the error I got was:

“The patch installer has failed to update the shared features”.

I referenced KB 1216468 but nothing worked that was suggested within this article.

Can anyone please offer some advice on what the problem may be?
