Out of memory error during processing of OLAP database

Hello We have a problem with processing our customer's database. When we use processing in one transaction, processing often fails with out of memory error. This doesn't happen if we use seperate transactions for each processed object. Is there any way, how to predict (count) necessary memory, needed for processing the OLAP db?   Thanks a lot!!!   Martin Honajzer

On Using RAM Drive/USB Memory Stick for tempdb Data and Log Storage

128GB USB memory stick is around $400 (2010).

Since there are restrictions on the number of independent disks for a server, can RAM drives or memory sticks be used for tempdb?  Thanks.

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

Export Visio Database Table Names to Excel

If you use the Enterprise Architect edition of Microsoft Visio for data modeling regularly, then there is a good chance that at some point you've wanted to export just the table names into Excel. You might want to do this to map logical ERD entities to physical data model tables, track project status by entity, or track overlap between database versions.

How to detect and avoid memory and resources leaks in .NET application

Despite what a lot of people believe, it's easy to introduce memory and resources leaks in .NET applications. The Garbage Collector, or GC for close friends, is not a magician who would completely relieve you from taking care of your memory and resources consumption.

I'll explain in this article why memory leaks exist in .NET and how to avoid them. Don't worry, I won't focus here on the inner workings of the garbage collector and other advanced characteristics of memory and resources management in .NET.

SQL Server Database Transaction

A transaction is a group of SQL commands executed together as a single component of work to be accomplished. If all of these commands succeed, then a transaction is committed - the changes to the data are made final. If any of the commands within a transaction fail, then the entire transaction is cancelled, or in SQL Server terms, the transaction will be rolled back.

Transactions are one of the things that keep your data safe, but they're not necessarily easy to understand. Here's some help:
