Reading AND Writing Access 2 databases with SSIS

I went for a job interview this morning, and one of the scenarios that the IT manager (a former programmer) told me about was the following .... If anyone could give me any pointers that I can email him pointers to tomorrow (Wednesday 22nd) it may just help tip his decision in my direction. So there's beer in it if you answer a relevent answer, and I get the job.

Old systems using Access 2 databases. These systems are not due to be updated any time soon.

New systems need access to that data, so each night he exports information using SSIS. However, he needs to also write data back, and more often than just overnight.

However, when he connects to the database, using ODBC connections I think, he says that the app (SSIS) opens the tables / database exclusively, even if he selects the option NOT to open it exclusively.

Any ideas, suggestions or comments ?

Reading and Writing Images From a Windows Mobile Database using UltraLite 10(C#)

Periodically I get a request for information on how to read and write binary data to a database running on Windows Mobile. If you search the Internet you can typically find examples that are available on Windows Desktops or allow you to read and write to a local file system. The problem is that it can take a bit of work to get this code to work on Windows Mobile accessing a database.

Ultimately you might be asking, why would I want to store and image in a database? Well in an environment where you synchronizing data between a local mobile database and a consolidated (central) database this can be extremely useful. Imagine if an insurance adjuster went to an accident scene, took a picture of a damaged car, loaded it into his Windows Mobile database and then replicated that image up to the Insurance headquarters for approval. All of this could be done in a very short period of time when using images in the database. Another good example might be a doctor who was waiting for a patient chart to become available. If you could store the image in a database this chart could be sent down to the doctor's device once it became available.

For this article I am not going to get into how to synchronize the images to and from a remote and central database as this is typically fairly straightforward when using a data synchronization technologies like MobiLink

XML Reading and Writing

We learned to process XML files using the Document Object Model as implemented by the XmlDocument class. To go further and make XML friendlier, the .NET Framework provides many other classes for different purposes, allowing you to create and manage nodes from custom .NET classes.
Besides the XmlDocument and the derived classes of XmlNode, the .NET Framework provides the XmlTextWriter class, which is derived from XmlWriter. The XmlTextWriter class works in a top-down approach to create, or deal with, the contents of an XML file. This class writes an XML node and moves down without referring

Reading values from data access component individually

Hi,

I am trying to pick data from the database through data access layer and use those values in different text boxes on the page.Basically on a click on the form, modal popup is planned to read the database and put the values into different text boxes which can be latter changed/ updated.

 What I am unable to do is accessing those values on the form itself progamatically. I will be thankful for any ideas and help.

My data access component is as follows:

cmd.Parameters.Add(

cmd.Parameters[

new SqlParameter ("@reg_id", SqlDbType.Int ));"@reg_id"].Value=reg_id;try

{

con.Open();

SqlDataReader

Reading/writing Word documents - keeping formatting

I've done some reading about reading from and writing to a Word doc. The reading from worked without issue:

string strPath = "Test.doc";
FileStream fStream = new FileStream
    (strPath, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read);
StreamReader sReader = new StreamReader(fStream);
string text = sReader.ReadToEnd();
sReader.Close();

But of course this is just a string, without any formatting information included. Writing to the document using a StreamWriter worked, but I received errors when opening the document.

I've also read that trying to perform actions on an Office document on a server without the Office products installed on it can result in mayhem. I'm working on a MVC application that will allow users to upload documents to the server, work on them, save their work and email it around. That doesn't specifically require the need to read/write programmatically, but for certain application functions I do need this. Any helpful suggestions are appreciated.

C# newbie stuck - trying to access column data in a SharePoint list in an SSIS script task

Hello, I'm sure this is the simplest question but I can't figure it out, even with Google's help. I am trying to stumble through some C# code in an SSIS script task and I am frustrated that I can't figure out how to do the easiest things.  I eventually want to find data in a column,and then use another list as a lookup to replace that value with another where the existing value matches a value in the lookup list.  So, the data in my (multiple choice) column might be "apples; bananas" and in another list I have a row that contains two columns, the first holding the value "Apples" and the second containing "Red Delicious" and my original column should read: "Red Delicious; bananas." But, alas, I can't even figure out how to see the data that is in a column. Here is my code: /*<br/> Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Script Task<br/> Write scripts using Microsoft Visual C# 2008.<br/> The ScriptMain is the entry point class of the script.<br/> */<br/> <br/> using System;<br/> using System.Data;<br/> using Microsoft.SharePoint;<br/> using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime;<br/> using System.Windows.Forms;<br/> using Microsoft.SharePoint.Utilities;<br/> <br/> namespace ST_08becda4c05c49cd9f30ea76110076cd.csproj<br/> {<br/> [

Warning SSIS.Pipeline cannot access global memory

Hi, I'm developing a data migration betwwen two sql servers. Due to transform data i'm developing SSIS DTSX to do that. Environment: We're using sql server 2008 R2 in both source and destination data. To develop we're using BIDS 2008 we're running XP SP3 machines   The fact is that we began to develop in BIDS 2005. We transalate the packages to BIDS 2008. Everytihing is perfect. Sundely, when we add more tasks to the packages, the problems began. * After saving the packages when close the project and reopen the projects what we've done disappeared.      Yes, the task was empty. * Recreate the task and run but we have the problem of SSIS.Pipeline. * Lost the login password of sqlconnection datasources. ...     We've read the post about permissions. We're administrators of our machines. The connection to the database is under "sa" user, so more permissions... impossible. We execute BIDS as Adminstrator but nothing change.     Any help is appreciated.  What can I do?      Dharth

Error reading .config file in Windows Forms app - Access is denied

I'm attempting to read a connection string from a .config file in a Windows Forms app on a test laptop. A previous version of the application worked just fine, but now I get a configuration exception thrown - "Configuration system failed to initialize." The inner exception message says - "An error occurred loading a configuration file: Access is denied". The user I'm logged in as is in the Administrators group and there's no obvious problems with the config file. The same config file works just fine on my dev machine so it's not an issue with ordering of the XML. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.If a response to your question is helpful or answers it please mark it as such!

SSIS Execute Process Task Give "Access is Denied" error but it is not related to access control.

Hello All - I have a very weired SSIS problem. I am using BIDS in two machines - Windows 7 Professional Edition x64 bit (development workstation) and Windows 2003 Standard Edition x32 bit SP2 (server) . The visual studio version on both the machines are Version 2.0.50727 SP2. I found that my package's ExecuteProcessTask fails with "Access is denied" error in Windows2003 but runs ok in Windows 7 dev box. I then tried to debug the package in the Windows 2003 environment itself. The package failed in debug mode too with the same message. After looking for a while I found that when I shorten the Argument length of the failing ExecuteProcessTask the task did seem to work. So in Windows2003 environment if my argument exceeds 1846 characters the ExecuteProcessTask fails with message "Access is Denied". If the argument string is less than 1846 it works ok. In Windows 7 environment there is no problem at all. It does not seem like access problem but I may be wrong. Has anyone seen this? I will appreciate any reply. Thanks, Niben
