How to return a specific field from the last record entered

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have two tables, Discrepancies and Actions that are linked by a field called JobNumber

What I need to do in a stored procedure is return a date field from the last record entered in the Actions table where the JobNumber is the same

The Actions tables primary key is an Identity field.

I'm trying to make a subquery but am stuck on the syntax.

Any help would be appreciated, this is just a bit beyond my skill set. Thanks.

[newbie] How to return a data record from a webservice (wsdl)?

vs2010, .NET 4.0

I have a webmethod which I want to return a data record (for example: name, surename, address, age, zip etc)

I wonder how to accomplish this. I think the solution is about creating an object which contains all the records serialized. And then the webmethod returns this serialized object. I'm not 100% sure how to accomplish this, if some of you good provide me with some tips, tutorial or link to an article explaining it, that would be great

How to return back to a specific page in a gridview list?

Hello,  I have a gridview with paging. So for instance, I'm on say the page number 10, and I open the form details on a specific record_id (link). After I update/submit the form, it returns to page number 10. But, if I go to another page, for instance page 5, and submit the form, it returns to page 10. I've tried some things, for instance history.back(), but it returns to the first page I went to, in this case page number 10 (or whatever the first page I go to). Hopefully this code helps to understand what I'm asking: <asp:GridView DataKeyNames="Referral ID" ID="gvList" runat="server" CellPadding="4"     ForeColor="#333333" GridLines="None" OnRowCommand="gvList_RowCommand"     OnRowDataBound="gvList_RowDataBound" OnRowDeleted="gvList_RowDeleted"     OnRowDeleting="gvList_RowDeleting" AllowPaging="True" PageSize="20"     AutoGenerateColumns="False" OnPageIndexChanging="gvList_PageIndexChanging"    OnRowCreated="OnRowCreated" AllowSorting="True" OnSorting="OnSort"> protected void gvList_PageIndexChanging(object sender, GridViewPageEventArgs e)        {   &nb

Print a specific Access Report with selected GridView record

I have my code output a gridview with all the data with an option to select records. I'm trying to make a code which would allow me to select a record, and then print this record using a specific Report stored in MS Access. I've located the code to print the Report it self, but it prints ether all the records or a range. Any ideas?

How to create a View to return all multiple child fields in one record?

I have an application where the users can define up to 5 extra fields for a particular table (e.g. tblMaster). The custom data is all held in one table (e.g. tblCustom) so there could be up to 5 records in tblCustom for each tblMaster record. In my application I build a select statement based on the number of custom fields so that I can get a single row of data for each tblMaster record (sample below). I am now adding new features to the application and I want to expose an SQL View to the users for a report writer that will achieve the same result but still cater for the variable number of custom fields. I realise this needs to use probably a RIGHT OUTER JOIN so that NULL is returned if there is no matching field but I can't work it out. If I had five separate files it would be easy as each one would be a RIGHT OUTER JOIN for each. I could build 6 views (e.g. with no custom fields, with one custom field, with two custom fields etc) but that is not very efficient. I don't particulaly want to restructure the database as there would be a lot of work and retesting.
Any help would be very welcome!

How to hide a gridview when no new record entered

In my aspx page, I have a formview and a gridview. I am using the insert template of the form to insert an application number and applicant name both of which the user will enter.

I have a insert stored procedure that checks if that same number exist, it won't enter one, if not it will. ID of that table is autoincrement.

If a new number entered, it should show in the gridview as in my query I am asking to show the max ID. The applicatin number in the grid is a hyperlink which allows the user to go to a details page.

My problem: Whenever I click the save button in the formview, the grid becomes visible with the last created number. It is ok if the system allow to enter a new record. But if the number is a duplicate and the system does not enter a new number, still the grid shows with the last created number.

How can I implement what I want to do.

The stored procedure is:

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[InsertNewChurchApp]nvarchar

does sp_executesql output return more than one record

Does sp_executesql return more than one row outputs.
I am having a issue with it:

my code is supposed to return 2 rows in the output but it is returning onyl one row(second row).
I guess, the first one is being overwritten by the second one. I am using sp_executesql because the sql string is being dynamically built.

the output is supposed to be like
sno sname
 1   clay
 2   teri
instead it is showing like this
sno sname
 2   teri

any idea on this?

Re: InfoPath 2010 dataconnection to SPList (LookUP field return id)

I designed a form in infopath 2010, created a dataconnection to Sharepoint 2010 List, query and data fields include lookup field.

When i expand field tree (Secondry), i can see following data on mouse hover of the field.

MyXYZField (Field)

DataType (Lookup)

Default Type (None)

I then added a dropdown control on the form , using dropdown properties wizard configure MYXYZField as the source.

When i preview the form i only see dropdown filled with LookupID (1,2,3 etc) instead of the text of the dropdown.

I must be missing something here, please help.

Returning record from History Table as it would have existed at a specific date/time

I have a table that uses a trigger to save changes (old values) to a history table. This process is working fine, and I have reports that detail the history of a record for the end user. My problem is that the end user now wants a report that will retrieve how the record looked at a specific date/time.

Source Table:

Id	First	Last	Active	Date
1	John	Doe	1	10/25/2010
2	Jane	Smith	1	10/25/2010

History Table:

Id	SourceId	First Last	Active	Date
1	1 Jonathon	NULL	NULL	5/1/2000
2	2 NULL Gray	NULL	10/1/2000
3	2 NULL Smith	NULL	6/15/2003
4	2 NULL Doe	NULL	11/23/2008

If the user queries for SourceId 2 on 1/1/2009, they need to get:

Id	First	Last	Active
2	Jane	Smith	1

I've used COALESCE searching multiple fields, but I need to figure out how to

select record where field = variable?

Hi, I'm very new to SQL so please excuse how simple this problem is:

I've got a web page which contains a form, the form holds the following boxes:

  • Latitude
  • Longitude
  • Accuracy
  • Update
  • UserName

I have also got an access database , containing one table (Table1) which has the fields:

  • Latitude
  • Longitude
  • Accuracy
  • Update
  • UserName

The "UserName" field is the primary key (containing an email address)

What I want to do is select the record that has the same email address as entered into the form and update the rest of the fields with the data entered into the form.

The problem I'm having, as I see it, is that I can't seem to compare a string to a record UserName?

When I enter the email address manually it works and updates the record but it won't pull the email address from the variable string?

Here is my .asp code:

'Dimension variables
Dim adoCon 'Holds the Database Connection Object
Dim rsUpdateEntry 'Holds the recordset for the record to be updated
Dim strSQL 'Holds the SQL query for the database
Dim email 'Holds the current users email address

email = (Request.Form("UserName"))

Set dbConn = Server.CreateObject(
