Accessing data from Data Conversion task

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Hi,

I am new to SSIS. I am creating a package which does the following:

1. Get data depending on a SQL Query (in SSIS I did this as a OLEDB Source with SQL Command)

2. Data conversion

3. Then insert the data into a SQL table.

For Step 3, which task Should I use. Id I Use OLE DB destination, into a table, it is giving me Errors.

So Can I access the Output of the Data conversion step in Execute SQL task, if I use it instead of OLEDB destination?

Data Conversion Task Error

Hi All, i have a table in excel as below. and i am trying to move records from excel to SQL.

I have simple SSIS package with Excel Source, data conversion task and OLEDB Destination. and in data conversion i have given the data type string(DT_STR) for each of the column and length of data type same as each column is having in sql database but still it fails at data conversion task and gives the following error:

Error: 0xC02020C5 at Data Flow Task, Data Conversion [2329]: Data conversion failed while converting column " ExportType" (3519) to column "Copy of ExportType" (3533). The conversion returned status value 4 and status text "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page.".

SSIS Derived Column and Data Conversion Task

I am passing down a variable, filename, as  string and then using Derived Column to pass it down to the destination. The filename is numeric (date) like such: 20101010. So, I need to convert the filename into a date formmat before I pass it to the destination table. Therefor, I am using a data conversion and converting it to a Date format. I tried using both database date or the date format and it keeps failing.

Here is what the failure report:

[Data Conversion [42297]] Error: Data conversion failed while converting column "DateAdded" (29685) to column "Copy of DateAdded" (42310).  The conversion returned status value 2 and status text "The value could not be converted because of a potential loss of data.".

Any ideas to resolve this issue?

Thanks

Accessing SharePoint 2010 Data with Server-Side APIs

Accessing SharePoint data in server-side solutions is one of the most common tasks that you will perform as a SharePoint developer. SharePoint 2010 provides powerful server-side APIs that enable you to retrieve, add, edit, and delete SharePoint data programmatically. SharePoint 2010 also includes the new LINQ to SharePoint technology that enables you to work with SharePoint data efficiently and easily.

Best practice? Accessing subset of data based on user

I have a DB and associated Asp.net 3.5 web app. The database holds information on our clients. We're adding client access functionality and I need to know how best to restrict user access to data only pertaining to their client.

The clients are stored in a hierarchy and each user can be associated with multiple clients. The user should only be able to access the data for their associated clients and any sub clients thereof.

My initial thought is to add a collection of clients to their profile, then use that to filter all queries; however, my gut instinct tells me that using the profile for such a security function is inadvisable.

Could anyone provide any insight on a best practice for this? I'm sure it must be a pretty common need.

Thanks!

How do I add two XML tasks to a Data FLow task?

I am new to SSIS and am developing a package which takes input from an XML file and then populates an existing SQL table with these records.  However, this is a very large XML file.  I keep getting an Out of Memory exception.  (This file is 210 MB)!  So what I tried doing was separating this XML file into 8 smaller files.  Now, I can successfully load data from these smaller files one at a time.  But how can I do all of them in the same package?  I connected two XML tasks to the Data Flow task and get the error below.  I also increased my timeout and number of errors to no avail.  Advice? Error: 0xC002F304 at XML Task 1, XML Task: An error occurred with the following error message: "Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.". Task failed: XML Task 1 Warning: 0x80019002 at zSkywardEnrollment: SSIS Warning Code DTS_W_MAXIMUMERRORCOUNTREACHED. The Execution method succeeded, but the number of errors raised (1) reached the maximum allowed (1); resulting in failure. This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number specified in MaximumErrorCount. Change the MaximumErrorCount or fix the errors.
