Having trouble starting my very own MVC tutorial-sans web application.

I'm having trouble trying to understand what to do here. My objective isn't as simple as a regular old CRUD form to create a new entity, but rather a browse index page that will list all of the Evaluations in my database. Each evaluation is attached to a RegisteredCourse which in turn has a Teacher attached to it. Here is how I'd like to present the information:My table structure doesn't allow me to just invoke it simply, so I know I have to create a ViewModel to have my controller give my View something nice and useful. My question is how to create this ViewModel. I'm stumped because I've never tackled this sort of problem before. Thanks. Below is SQL schema if that helps.create table Grado( ID int identity(1,1) primary key, Nombre varchar(64) ) create table Jefe( ID int identity(1,1) primary key, Nombre varchar(128), Apellido varchar(256) ) create table Area( ID int identity(1,1) primary key, IDJefe int foreign key references Jefe(ID), Nombre varchar(64) ) create table Carrera( ID int identity(1,1) primary key, IDArea int foreign key references Area(ID), Nombre varchar(64) ) create table Docente( ID int identity(1,1) primary key, IDCarrera int foreign key references Carrera(ID), IDGrado int foreign key references Grado(ID), Nombre varchar(128), Apellido varchar(256), Carnet varchar(20), FechaNacimiento datetime ) create table Materia( ID int

touchscreen application development tutorial

I am planning ti develop a simple touchscreen application for a store with the sales item. I wish to use the SQL server 2005 as the database. But I am total newbie in developing a touchscreen application. C#, WPF is what I think would be suitable to make a good User Interface and coding.

I would really appreciate if anyone could help me with the basic starting tutorials(eBooks, links to  video tutorials) and where I can get the resources from.

Thank you in advance.

- if there is any newer version, the code gets the files (xml) and do the update.

SPWebConfigModification not updating single web application

Hi All,

We are trying to add a provider in the web.config of a particular web application and have overridden the FeatureActivated event for this. The issue is that the code updates all the web.configs in the farm.

In order to apply the changes to a single web application, we've used the following code(going by the Microsoft article : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb861909(v=office.12).aspx)

SPSite oSPSite = SPCon

baffling issue in TailSpin Tutorial -- class namespace changed

In Tailspin Spyworks tutorial #5 Building Business Logic http://www.asp.net/web-forms/tutorials/tailspin-spyworks-part-5

Here is the excerpt from the tutorial pg 38 of the full pdf

The class file that we just generated looks like this.

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Web;

namespace TailspinSpyworks.Classes
      public class MyShoppingCart

We will merge our implementations by adding the partial keyword to this file as well.
Our new class file now looks like this.

   namespace TailspinSpyworks.Classes
         public partial class MyShoppingCart

However....in the download the namespace is actually "namespace TailspinSpyworks" without the .Classes

Here is the code from the download

namespace TailspinSpyworks
    public struct ShoppingCartUpdates
        public int ProductId;
        public int PurchaseQantity;
        public bool RemoveItem;

    public partial class MyShoppingCart
        public const string CartId = "TailSpinSpyWorks_CartID";

Updating Data-Tier Application project after schema change has been made in SSMS

I have successfully created a Data-Tier Application project within visual studio. How do I update these scripts to reflect the changes made by a DBA in SSMS?  Also, on another project we use Entity Framework which drops and recreates the database from within the application. I would also like to import these changes into the Data-Tier Application project.
I can figure out how to import the database into the project the very first time. But after a change has been made using another tool, how do I synchronize the project in visual studio?
When I create a schema comparison that points from database -> project, it correctly analyzes the schema changes. Am I missing how to update the project with these changes?
Thanks, I really would like a solution to this so I can use Data-Tier Applications instead of a third party tool.

SQL Injection Walkthrough / Tutorial

SQL Injection is a trick to inject SQL query/command as an input possibly via web pages. Many web pages take parameters from web user, and make SQL query to the database. Take for instance when a user login, web page that user name and password and make SQL query to the database to check if a user has valid name and password. With SQL Injection, it is possible for us to send crafted user name and/or password field that will change the SQL query and thus grant us something else.

Microsoft's Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML) Loop

discovered an interesting error recently while working with Microsoft's Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML) that, surprisingly, had received no ink. Partly what surprises me about this is that the error may require you to rewrite large sections of your code if you haven't previously considered this SharePoint limitation. I'll start with some context, but first of all the error is:

SharePoint Tutorial - Web Parts

A page in SharePoint is comprised of web parts the exist within zones. Web parts are available for just about everything. For example in the page below there are four web part highlighted by different colors. The purple web part displays a short list of the new announcements stored in the annoucements library. The pink web part displays events from a calendar within the site. The green web part displays an image from a location the user specifies. The gray web part displays a list of links from the links list on the site.

SharePoint Tutorial - Team Sites

Team sites are small web sites that are created to store everything about a particular thing. For example a site can be created for a department in an organization like human resources. I site can be created for a particular project. A site can even be created for a meeting. Everything about the thing (department, project, meeting) like documents, lists, calendars, etc. is stored in that site.

SharePoint Tutorial - Libraries

A library is a feature in SharePoint that stores files (documents). Think of a library as a folder on your file system. For example, a library can be created to store resumes in the human resources team site. A library is usually created for a specific type of file. Libraries can contain metadata to describe the particular file in more detail and to make it easier to find.

SharePoint Tutorial - Lists

A list is a feature in SharePoint that stores a lists of information. For example, a list can be created to store web links in the human resources team site. A list is usually created for a specific type of information. Lists can contain metadata to describe the particular information in more detail and to make it easier to find.

SharePoint Tutorial - Security

Security in SharePoint is comprised of users, groups and roles.

Users, Groups and Roles

A user account comes from the authentication system. For example, if Active Directory is used to authenticate then the user accounts will come from it.

There are two types of groups SharePoint uses: domain groups and SharePoint groups.

SharePoint Tutorial - SharePoint Logical Architecture

The SharePoint logical architecure consists of nested and isolated levels. These levels provide benefits for security, navigation, search, branding and ect. depending on the level

SharePoint Farm
The base level for any SharePoint implementation is the SharePoint farm. Physically a farm can consist of one server or many servers. An organization may implement one or more farms. This usually depends on security and performance needs.

SharePoint Tutorial - Content Types

SharePoint content types provide users with a way to manage and organize content in a more meaningful way. It's a reusable of settings you want to apply to a particular type of document in a library or item in a list.

SharePoint Tutorial -SharePoint Physical Architecture

The SharePoint physical architecture consists of services running on one or more servers.

There are three types of services that together run the SharePoint farm: web, application and database services. Web services through Internet Information Server is what processes the ASP.Net and sends back the html to a user's browser. Application services is where the "brains" of SharePoint are located. All of the SharePoint specific logic and services are processed there. Database services are run by SQL Server and it's where all the data/content for SharePoint is stored.
