IE9, Site Specific Browsers, and adding your own Jump List Items to Pinned Tabs

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Site Specific Browsers aren't a really new idea. In 2005 there was an app called Bubbles I ran for a while that would let you run a website with minimal "browser chrome." Mozilla Prism (né WebRunner) is a Firefox add-in that does a similar thing. Google Chrome includes the idea of Application Shortcuts. The idea of all this is that some web apps are really applications and you think about them as applications. For me, I think of Gmail and Facebook and Twitter and Basecamp as applications not necessarily as browser tabs. The notion of Site-Specific Browsers is definitely arriving. Internet Explorer 9 Beta (IE9) is out now and includes a featured called " Site Pinning " which is a effectively Site Specific Browsers. It's...(read more)

Way of adding items in Drop Down List or List Box using Javascript

The article Way of adding items in Drop Down List or List Box using Javascript was added by raja.s on Sunday, June 06, 2010.

Hi,script type="text/javascript"> function AddItem(Text,Value) { // Create an Option object var opt = document.createElement("option"); // Add an Option object to Drop Down/List Box document.getElementById("DropDownList"

User Alert Management for a specific list versus entire SharePoint site?

It seems that to be able to manage User Alerts, one must have Full Access to the entire SharePoint site - and then use => Site Settings > User Alerts. Ideally, I would like to be able to grant access to users to only be able to manage alerts for a specific list. Is this possible (without having to do any programming) and, if so, how? If such access is only available at the site level, I will simply create a Permission Level that allows one to only "Manage Alerts" Thanks in advance for any assistance. Dave

Adding Items to existing list using CAML

Does anyone know how to add list items (not files) to a SharePoint list using CAML?  I know how to do this in code but I was curious if it was possible in CAML. We can add files using the Module element quite easily and so I thought, why not list items?  It is possible to add list items to a new list using the Data element, but I am trying to add items to a list created earlier by another feature.

Adding windows forms controls to the display of list items

I'm new to Sharepoint development, and was wondering if I could get some brief pointers to get me going in the right direction.  I'm required to add a button to list items that on submit does some manipulation of the data in the fields inside the item and then sends that data off to an external webservice.  The complexity is sufficient to warrant managed code, i.e. C#.

What I'd like to know is how to approach integrating this code into Sharepoint.  I've read about web parts, but viewing list items doesn't involve web part pages on my installation so I can't include my own.  What other ways are there of doing this?

Cheers all

Adding custom list to site definition

Hello All:

First I will explain what I was trying to achieve.

I wanted to create a site definition or site template with some common features e.g. document library with custom columns and then create many sub sites using that template or site definition.

But the idea is that once all the sites have been created and up and running, if it is required in future to modify the document library to either add or remove some columns then I will simply modify the template/site definition and then apply it globally and all the sites will get updated automatically which were created using that template/definition.

I discovered that I can not get it done using site templates as they are just snap shot of sites and any modifcation can only be applied to new sites created based on template not the ones which were already created.

So, if I go with Site Definition option, what is the best way to do it. Create a custom document library and then create list template based on that and then add it on site definition ?

Or create a feature and do it via code in feature activation.?

Or perhaps there is another better way to do it?

Any help is appreciated

Adding List from another Site Collection

I want to add a list to as a web part on my page in Sharepoint 2007.

The catch is that the list is part of another site collection.

How do I sort this out.

I tried to go to the Data Source Library through Sharepoint Designer and tried adding a new Library.

But the lists from that Site Collection doesn't show.

Is there another way to do this?

Incremental Content Deployment is not removing the deleted list items from target site

I am trying to do an incremental content deployment. The incremental content deployment is not removing the deleted items from target site. I checked the export log. But I did not anything there.

Please give me some pointers. Also in case of deletion how incremental content push works. I mean, one user deletes an item and now it is inside his/her recycle bin, now how incremental content deployment put this in export log.

Is it possible to authorize users on on specific list items?

I need your help with an authorization probem in my application. Suppose I have 3 users - Peter, Paul and John in my application. Peter is in charge of Europe sales and Paul in charge of North America sales. When they login to the application, only Europe sales figures should be visible to Peter, while Paul can see only North America sales figures. Both of them report to John, who can see sales figures for both North America as well as Europe.

I've been trying this hard, but since I'm just a novice, I've been messing it up. Really sorry if I sound dumb.

Site Analytics - how get specific list item id to display in Top Page Results

We have created a new Site to store Knowledgebase Articles. The articles are being added as items in the list. We now want to find which are the most viewed items. When I look at Site Analytics, I find several pages being returned including what I believe are the Items viewed. When I look at the details under the graph or when exported to Excel, this the is extent of the Page URL (/lists/kbarticles/dispform.aspx?...). There are several occurances of this same URl which I expect are separate items that have been viewed. How do I get the ID of the item or other information, so I can track it to the specific Knowledgebase Article? Additional information: I can click on the URl and it will take me to the unique Knowledgebase Article.

Creating Sites/Lists/List Items under Current User Context in SharePoint By Using SPUserToken

Usually we do this by performing the action under RunWithElevatedPrivileges method and updating the listitem using SPListItem.SystemUpdate() method (see here). but this approach has its own flaws like (RunWithElevatedPrivileges will run under system account, we cannot use SystemUpdate for SPSite,SPWeb,SPList, since it runs under system we will "CreatedBy" by as SystemAccount).

Get pixel format, raw format, property id list and property items image in VB.net - C#.net.

Adding new items to a Repeater control with transitions?

I am currently in the process of writing a facebook type 'activity feed' for a site. Currently I am binding the last 10 items to a repeater control, which contains a usercontrol representing each item. This works fine but there are a couple of requiremnts that are giving me problems and wondered if the the good people of the forum could make some suggestions.

The requirement is that when a user clicks a refresh button any new events are added to the top of the list, the previous items drop down and the equivalent number of old items drop off the bottom, all with nice slider transitions.

I have put the repeater inside of an update control and are able to handle the transitions by using RegisterStartup script to drop jquery calls onto the page for the slider. However I cannot find a way to dynamically add or remove new datarows to the repeater. I need the old items to stay in the repeater and be pushed down by the new items, so completely refreshing the datasource seems like a bad idea.

I was thinking about maybe storing the datasource in the viewstate and adding rows to that, maybe with an extra column on the end which stores what transition is needed on the databind for my jquery, but there will be a 'View more items' link at the bottom of the page, so I am worried that the list could get pretty large and there

Create web site specific to mobile device, how to detect?

I have a website that is written in .Net 2.0 which uses all the nice rich functionality of the web (Ajax, javascript etc..).  However I have noticed that the site does not display very well on mobile devices.

So therefore I would like to create a more streamlined version of my site that is better tailored to these devices.  However how do detect that the user has come to the site via a mobile device and how can i redirect them to my tailored page

Many thanks in advance
