Need help with configuring simple search - Getting 404 Error

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I am trying to setup search such that I have 3 scopes: This Site, All Sites, and People. I have got to this point by selecting "Use custom scopes. Display richer results using the following Search Center: /SearchCenter/Pages" in Site Settings > Search Settings - Then, when I search on All Sites or People, I get a 404 Not Found. Does this mean I have to create some sort of Search site (aka SearchCenter)?

Please advise.

Error in / Application after adding employee search in webpart

Hello everyone,

I am working on sharepoint 2007 and I was editing the webpart of the software and after adding the predefined employee search table, the server has crashed while trying to access the server remotely with the following error message:

Error in / Application

However, while trying to login locally I have no problem and can easily login.

What will be the course of action in fixing this error.

Also the site is complaining of an invalid certificate even after adding an exception.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Chris Stanko

"Your search cannot be completed because of a service error. Try ..."

i have a problem with search function where everytime i search any file/doc the error message "Your search cannot be completed because of a service error. Try your search again or contact your administrator for more information." occurred. I realized that there are items in central admin but it is "not available" in my site. I already follow several guides that had been provided in this forum but still the same. Even, i already create new SSP and configure the search scope, content source and also crawling.

FYI, i used Microsoft Sharepoint 2007.

Hope anyone could help me to solve this problem. Thanks.

full-text search error

I have created procedure for full-text search and it works in SQL Management Studio 2008 (SQL Server 2008 Express) but in Visual Studio 2010 not - I have error:

Full-Text Search is not installed, or a full-text component cannot be loaded.

I have read somewhere that only admin can use full-text indexes - so how I can use full-text search in VS2010 ?

RPC Unavailable error when configuring SPF2010 on DMZ

I'm having trouble configuring SharePoint Foundation 2010 in a DMZ environment.  My SharePoint web and application server is on the DMZ, along with an Active Directory Read-Only Domain Controller.  My target database server is on the internal network, as is the AD domain control referenced by the RODC. When running the SharePoint Configuration Wizard, I answer all of the questions and it starts chugging along, creating an admin database, but the progress bar never advances past "task 3 of 10" before failing with the error: "An exception of type System.InvalidOperationException was thrown.  Additional exception information: An error occurred while getting information about the user netportal at server mydomain.net: The RPC server is unavailable" The RPC service is running on the web server, database server, and RODC. Is there some sort of temporary opening of AD access that needs to occur in order for SharePoint to successfully configure?  Should I configure the web/application server inside the corporate network, then move it to the DMZ afterwards? I'm thinking that SharePoint is having a problem with the RODC, but I'm not sure what. Has anyone else run into a situation like this?

Search Server 2010 Express Error when crawling LOB Data with BCS Error while crawling LOB contents.

Ok so search server is crawling our BCS external data source which has some columns that allow null. When it hits a null in one of these columns it dies out with: Error while crawling LOB contents. ( '.', hexadecimal value 0x00, is an invalid character. Line 94, position 11. ) This is in the crawl log Is the a Fix / Update / Work around for this (other than modifying the table, taking off allow nulls and using a "blank" default value)

BDC model in Search Server 2010 indexing error - Error while crawling LOB contents. ( Not a valid Wi

I have created a .NET connector assembly that pulls data from an in-house .asmx web service.  I have successfully created an external list in a search center site that displays this data without problem.   However, I've run into an error and a warning when indexing this list in search server 2010 for which I cannot find much information.  I've configure a content source with LOB data as the content source type and select my external data source from the list. After running a full crawl, I receive this error: Error while crawling LOB contents. ( Not a valid Win32 FileTime. ) And this warning: The content for this address was excluded by the crawler because this item was marked with a no-index meta-tag. To index this item, remove the meta-tag and recrawl. My .NET connector assembly looks like this:   public static WeatherEntity ReadItem(string id) { foreach (WeatherEntity entity in GetAllEntities()) { if (entity.LocationAbbreviation == id) { return entity; } } return null; } public static IEnumerable<WeatherEntity> ReadList() { return GetAllEntities().ToArray(); } public static List<WeatherEntity> GetAllEntities() { List<WeatherEntity> weatherEntities = new List<WeatherEntity>(); WeatherService.WeatherWS service = new WeatherService.WeatherWS(); WeatherService.DsWeatherDa

Error accessing Search Settings and search returns 0 results

Quick summary - my MOSS 2007 server died. I brought up a new server, installed MOSS, service pack 1, service pack 2, created the new config database, then attached my existing content database (I have a separate physical server for the databases). After a few tweaks to get most of the other settings back in order, (most) everything seems to be working somewhat as it should except for Search. Whenever I try to access Search settings I get an error: "An error occurred during the processing of . The resource object with key 'S2SearchAdminDashboard_Title' was not found". I created a new SSP with it's own unique account for the service and app pool (read online that it should be different than SharePoint account because of the timer service conflicting with search), I tried copying the files (listed here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointsearch/thread/1a93ef86-be5a-44ad-a814-14613fd0a78f) from my test environment with no luck, I've made sure the permissions to the Task Scheduler were correct (found a Google blip about that somewhere), I've deleted and re-installed the SSP multiple times, ran the Configuration Wizard more times than I can count, but no matter what I do it never changes and always gives the same error. Also, whenever I try to access Central Admin it tries redirecting me to http://servername:portnumber/_admin/SearchServerW
