Newsfeed does not show all types of information

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Ok, so I have created two users, and user1 has added user2 as his colleague. User1 has everything checked off under "Activities I am following" in his profile, so intuitively, he should see everything that user2 does.

Logged in as user2, I do the following updates:

  • Create some notes
  • Create some tags
  • Add a picture
  • Add a blog post
  • Update the "says" field
  • Add some details to the pofile, e.g. phone number etc.

I then trigger the "User Profile Service Application - Activity Feed Job" service manually to see the changes.

The only things showing up in user1's newsfeed, are:

  • User2's notes
  • User2's "says" field
  • User2's profile details, e.g. phone number
The rest is mysteriously not showing. If I browse to user2's profile page, I can see his picture and blog posts under "Content", so the permissions are not the issue there. Under "Tags and notes", I see only notes, which may indicate a permission issue. However, the tags are not marked as private by user2.

We experience the same behaviour both on a release candidate installation and on the rtm version. I have tried to

Show web applications build version information

I would like to make the build information for the running web application but I dont know where I set or configure this nor do I know how to retrieve this information.

In a project you may set the  build information in the file AssemblyInfo.cs under the projects Properties folder. Here is a snippet of the AssemblyInfo.cs file:

// Version information for an assembly consists of the following four values:
//      Major Version
//      Minor Version
//      Build Number
//      Revision
// You can specify all the values or you can default the Revision and Build Numbers
// by using the '*' as shown below:
[assembly: AssemblyVersion("6.3.0")]
[assembly: AssemblyFileVersion("6.3.0.*")]

But there is no such file for an web application project, so I have to get this information from one of the compiled DLLs that is in the same assembly as my web application then? Or how is this done?

The reason I want this information is because my customer would like to have a webpage within the web application where he could see the current version. This is also nice to have when testing and debugging etc.

How to show random information with C# from a SQL Database?

I have to do the following in my web page.  Any advice and how to do this please with C# I have a table where I have a column for different states (NY, NJ, etc).  People can join the group (in my page) for each state (the state where they live).  So I have to display the newest members for each state. So the way it should work is, every time the page is refreshed/reloaded it should show the state name as a header text and the first 5 newest members for that state.  This should be random, for example initially when the page is loaded say it will show state: New York and the 5 recent members like Stacy, Laura, Mike, Sam, Mathew. Then when the page is refreshed it will show another state like State: california and the recent 5 members All the information comes from the database How should I do this?

Hello, I have these tables....   CREATE TABLE test( codeTest int IDENTITY(1,1), name varchar(100) not null, PCK varchar (15) not null, AK varchar (15) not null, testdate datetime not null, CONSTRAINT testPK PRIMARY KEY (codeTest), );   CREATE TABLE subtest( codeSubtest int IDENTITY(1,1), codeTest int not null, name varchar(100) not null, ps1 int not null, ps2 int, ps3 int, ps4 int, ps5 int, maximumpeek char(1), fullsocketsps1initial int, fullsocketsps2initialfull int, fullsocketsps1final int, fullsocketsps2final int, CONSTRAINT subtestPK PRIMARY KEY (codeSubtest), CONSTRAINT subtestFK FOREIGN KEY (codeTest) REFERENCES test (codeTest) on delete cascade, );   CREATE TABLE scheduler( codeScheduler int IDENTITY(1,1), codeSubtest int not null, ps int not null, step varchar(10) not null, task int not null, cycletime real not null, maxdelay bigint not null, maxexecutiontime bigint not null, maxcycletime bigint not null, lostscans bigint not null, inputtimeouts real not null, outputtimeouts real not null, comments varchar (50), CONSTRAINT schedulerPK PRIMARY KEY (codeScheduler), CONSTRAINT schedulerFK FOREIGN KEY (codeSubtest) REFERENCES subtest (codeSubtest) on delete cascade, );   I want to show, the maxcycletime when task=2 for every test: so this I can do it... SELECT    MAX (scheduler.maxexecutiontime) AS [MAX CYCLE TIME]   ,test.codeTest AS

Custom Information Panel and content types

I am using WSS3.0 and created a CIP using infopath.  I would now like to remove the CIP and have it use the default out of box properies panel.  How do I make this change?  It appears that the CIP is associated with the content type and not the word template.  I do not see any settings in WSS3.0 to manage the panels associated with the content type.  Am I missing something?

Any idea if Information Rights Management (IRM) will support additional file types in future version

In Sharepoint 2007, IRM supports Excell, Word and PowerPoint out of box...

Any idea if there will be additional out of box support for filetypes such as PDF, TIFF, Outlook Emails (.msg)...?

I am hoping to avoid creating custom protectors to protect the files and building an add-ons to software such as Adobe Reader to understand the RMS licences...

Looking forward to additional suggestion as well...

SharePoint Tutorial - Content Types

SharePoint content types provide users with a way to manage and organize content in a more meaningful way. It's a reusable of settings you want to apply to a particular type of document in a library or item in a list.

UML Diagram Types

UML provides a number of diagram types as a mechanism for entering model elements into the model and showing overlapping sets of models elements and their relationships. UML does not specify what diagrams should be created or what they should contain, only what they can contain and the rules for connecting the elements. The diagram types include:

UML Diagram Types - 2

Further diagram types include:

Activity Diagrams - a generic flow chart used much in business modelling and sometimes in use case modelling to indicate the overall flow of the use case. This diagram type replaces the need for dataflow diagrams but is not a main diagram type for the purposes of analysis and design.

GridView control to show master-child or master-slave data, written in c#, asp.net

I previously made a master slave datagrid using Visual Studio 2003 .Net (original article) that would allow users to show data to clients using collapse and expand features. These features however did not carry over to gridview for many users. This tutorial will explaing how to create a collapsable/expandable gridview in frameworks 2.0 and higher

How to get more information about the exceptions that can happen in SharePoint 2010 projects?

In case there is an exception anywhere in the SharePoint 2010 project (most common place an exception would happen is during deployment of your SharePoint project, custom deployment configuration or custom deployment steps), there's a registry key EnableDiagnostics available for you to use.

Ready made List Types provided by SharePoint

SharePoint provides some out of the box List Types. Some of the most used ready made list types that SharePoint provides currently are listed below:

Tuples, Anonymous Types, and Concrete Types

Tuples can save you a great deal of repetitive tasks. They can also lead to completely unreadable code in a language like C#. Tuples are data values that contain N items. The .NET framework supports tuples containing 1 to 8 members. To use tuples with more than 8 members, you use another tuple for the member of an octtuple

Content Types in MOSS 2007

In this article I will try to describe the one of the best feature in Microsoft office Share Point 2007 called Content Types.

Content types are simply collection of contents.Each content in a Content type can have different settings.Basically it is a reusable collection of settings which you want to apply to a particular category of contents.

Data Types - Date and Time in SqlServer

Date and time values can be stored with either the DATETIME or SMALLDATETIME data type. The difference between the two is that SMALLDATETIME supports a smaller range of dates and does not give the same level of precision when accounting for time. The DATETIME data type can hold values from January 1st of 1753 to December 31st of 9999. The time is stored to the 1 three hundredths of a second and each value takes up 8 bytes of storage. The SMALLDATETIME data type can hold values between January 1st 1900 and June 6th of 2079. The time is tracked to the minute and each value takes up 4 bytes of storage. The majority of business applications can live happily with SMALLDATETIME, however, if you are in an environment where each second matters or you need to make estimates to the distant future (or past) then you have to resort to DATETIME. If you fail to specify the time when inserting a value into a DATETIME or SMALLDATETIME column, a default of midnight is used. If you fail to specify the date portion the default of January 1, 1900 is used.
