Modified By Permissions

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Good Afternoon folks,

I need to better understand what permissions are required to view all entries in the modified by field of a document library. Currently i can view all documents that i have edited but the rest are blank. If i log in as a farm admin i can see all of the modified bys filled in by all of the different users editing them.

Any thoughts here? I can provide some screen shots if neccesary

Access Control: Understanding Windows File And Registry Permissions

Understanding the ACLs that govern permissions and rights before an operation is allowed to proceed is critical to enhancing security.

Security in .NET: The Security Infrastructure of the CLR Provides Evidence, Policy, Permissions, and

The common language runtime of the .NET Framework has its own secure execution model that isn't bound by the limitations of the operating system it's running on. In addition, unlike the old principal-based security, the CLR enforces security policy based on where code is coming from rather than who the user is. This model, called code access security, makes sense in today's environment because so much code is installed over the Internet and even a trusted user doesn't know when that code is safe.In this article, Don Box explains how code access security works in the CLR. He discusses the kinds of evidence required by policy, how permissions are granted, and how policy is enforced by the runtime.

Setting permissions of a specific SharePoint workflow

We have a very simple workflow whereby an document placed in a public library (INBOX) is moved it to a private library (VERIFY) and then deleted. The workflow works correctly when someone who has access to the VERIFY library drops a record into the INBOX library.  However it does not work when the user does not have access to the VERIFY library.

I was told that I need to "set the AD group associated with a specific SharePoint workflow" but cannot find any reference to this in SPD.

Info Path form when modified by using UTF-8 encoding having issues with existing 'iso-8859-1' char

I am modifying the infio path form 2007 from my state machine workflow to constantly update the status fields in the request form.

below is the method i created for the same..

private void updateInfoPathRequestForm(string xpathNode, string nodeValue)
            SPUserToken token = workflowProperties.Web.CurrentUser.UserToken;
            using (SPSite _site = new SPSite(workflowProperties.Site.ID, token))
                _site.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true;
                using (SPWeb _web = _site.OpenWeb(workflowProperties.Web.ID))
                    SPListItem item = _web.Lists[workflowProperties.List.ID].Items[workflowProperties.Item.UniqueId];

MOSS 07 Installation Quirks - SSRS Connectivity & SSP Permissions

I'm new to MOSS 07 and am currently learning it.  I've done clean installs and post-install configuration a few times now and I've noticed 2 quirks associated with a fresh install.  I'm not sure what is going on or the best way to "fix" them.

1 - I install SQL 05 with SSRS prior to installing MOSS and I always check to make sure that SSRS is configured and I can connect to it in the SQL Management Studio.  Once the Default port 80 Web App is provisioned, however, I can no longer connect to SSRS via the SQL MS.  I understand that this is related to the fact that the default Web App that hosts the SSRS sites is the Default 80 Web Site and that this port is taken over by the SharePoint 80 portal.  My question is, how to handle this.  I understand that I can configure SSRS to run via SP Integration.  However, when I install SSRS 05 initially and prior to installing/configuring MOSS, should SSRS be installed under a separate Web App and Port than the Default?  Does SP Integration restore the ability to connect to SSRS via the SQL Mang. Studio?

2 - In an attempt to get used to a "production" way of doing things, I create Domain Service accounts for both installing MOSS and running the services.  My problem is with the results of using an installation account.  I call it "spinsta

How to write an event to manage permissions on a document while uploading, depending on custom field

I am trying to find a solution to manage permissions on a document, while uploading it into a document library. This event has to be fired if a custom field is populated (it's a check box field).

How to write an event for this, i tried writing ItemAdded event, but this is getting fired as soon as a document is uploaded, before coming to the page, where we populate all the fields and hit check in.

can i capture Check-in event.

Please advise.

MOSS 2007 - "next 100" link missing from permissions pages

We're running two MOSS 2007 environments that are (should be!) identical for Development and Validation.  We don't have Production set up yet to compare...

In DEV, when you go to the Site Settings > View All Site Settings > People and Groups > Groups, you see a "1 - 100 >" link at the top right to page to the next 100 groups.  In VAL, we do not see that link even though we have more than 100 Groups (the list ends on the first page with the letter "l").

Everything we have looked at between the two systems looks identical, has anyone seen something similar and has a fix?  At this point we're waiting until we get the PRD environment set up to compare because we're stumped.  Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

This page has been modified

I have a spin on a well documented problem.  I have several sub sites that have this issue.  Quite often when a new list item is being created, the person clicks new, types in some text and then clicks OK, they get an error that says "This Page has been modified since you opened it. You must open the page again."  If you click back and click OK again you get the same error.  You have to cancel and click new again to get around it.  This doesn't always happen, I'd say about 20% of the time.

This is not on a new page, not adding a webpart, not editing a content editor.  This is a brand new task in a task list.
This will also happen when an item is being edited.  A task is edited, click OK, get the error saying it has changed.  No other person is using the list. Again this doesn't always happen.

Any ideas?

Access denied to folder in ASP.NET project either though I have granted all users full permissions !

Modified column missing when sorting

I resently updated few document libraries on my sharepoint site.  What I did I removed "Content approval" from those libraries and now my modified and created columns are missing from the columns of the list (appear to be hidden ).  So, I need to be able to sort by these columns and I have seen many people asking about this same question but I haven't found any answer to this issue.  The columns are still there but I they dont show up in the columns of the library.  I can still create a view with this columns but i cant sort by them.

Is this a bug or is there a reason why sharepoint does this?

jQuery modified ListBox not posting back modified values

Hi everyone,

I have an ASP.Net ListBox that I'm trying to populate via jQuery, using the following snippet:

        $("#MyList_btnAddAll").click(function(e) {
        $('#MyList_lstAll option').appendTo('#MyList_lstSelected');

The code has two ListBoxes in fact, one a "source" and the other a "destination".  As you can tell above the ListBoxes are MyList_lstAll and MyList_lstSelected.  These are rendered in the browser as <select> elements, as you'd expect.

The jQuery is working great, the items are moving from one ListBox to the other, the DOM is updated but when I submit this form (not using jQuery), the ListBoxes don't reflect this change on postback.

I realize my modifications via jQuery aren't available in ViewState but I thought since the DOM was updated these changes would be part of the postback data?  But in the codebehind after postback the ListBox contents haven't changed.  Does anyone know what might be going on and what I can do about it?  Many thanks.

UserPrincipal.FindByIdentity Permissions

I'm attempting to use the System.DirectoryServices.AccountManagement library to obtain the UserPrincipal for a particular Active Directory user. I've got the following code: PrincipalContext context = new PrincipalContext(ContextType.Domain, "DomainName"); userPrincipal = UserPrincipal.FindByIdentity(context, IdentityType.SamAccountName, username); This code is running as a valid domain user, but when I execute it I get the following exception: System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryServicesCOMException (0x8007052E): Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. What's interesting is that I can make the following call, using the same context, without a problem: context.ValidateCredentials(username, password, ContextOptions.Negotiate) Ideas?

How to check effective permissions for a user or group for a SQL server object or whole server?

Guys, How do I see effective permissions for a user or group for a SQL server object or whole server? For example, a user is not listed in security/logins, but he is a member of few groups and some of them have assigned permissions on SQL server (again either directly or through membership in other groups) Even when I select an object (a table), check properties/permission – it doesn’t let me select any principal, except those listed on security/logins… Anyway, what is the right way to see effective permissions for a user or group? Sorry for asking such a simple question, I’ve searched but found nothing relevant.
