script to test speed of connection.

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Does anyone have any article or sample code they can reference for writing something that can test the speed of a connection between a client and a server. I specifically need to point to a perticular webserver within my corporate environment. The purpose of this project to to indicate to users the current connection speed to the server so to give them an idea of what time of experience they can expect visually.

But I am having a hard time figuring out what to do. Should I try and download files locally to a client machine from the server and see how long it took. This cannot be a webform because the webserver might have a fast connection to the network but the client that might be vpn'ed in might have a slow connection. So I think it needs to be javascript or some type of scripting.

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

101 question - New to VS 2010, create connection string to perform test with Oreilly txt book

Hello, I have installed VS 2010 Ultimate and it came with SQL 2008.  I am trying to figure out what version it is and also how to create a connection in place to keep using the Oreilly examples to hopefully learn how to develop in C#.  I have been learning but it is getting more difficult.   I try to follow the steps but it just does not make sense.  If anyone could provide some easy steps to check version and connection method to sql using 2010, I would be grateful. I did see a post for sql management(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=08e52ac2-1d62-45f6-9a4a-4b76a8564a2b&displaylang=en).  I am going to download to hopefully be able to view the database.  We have sql server 2008 at work and I have used the studio management for sql to run queries and would like to do the same with the version that was installed with the installation of 2010 ultimate.Hopefully I can get the connection to the database so I can start learning how to build a dictionary and list for some queries.  My goal is to create a aspx file that will show entries in a database we have at work.  Trying to take baby steps. Thanks for the help.

A connection cannot be made to the database. set and test the connection string

Hi All,

i have configred SSRS with Sharepoint integration mode everything was successfull. Now when iam trying to create sample report which pulls the data from lists. i have done the below steps.

1) Business Intelligence Projects -> Report Server Project
2)Right-click on Shared Data Sources and select Add New Data Source
 General tab
 Name: DataSource1
 Type: Microsoft SQL Server
 Connection String: http://localhost:3000/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx?op=GetListItems

 Credentials Tab
Selected radio button: Use Windows Authentication(Integrated Security).
Clicked Ok.

3)Right-Click on Reports (New item-> Report)
4)Dataset: selected new dataset
 Query Tab

database connection test

I'm trying to incorporate a database connection test into an application I'm writing.   In the connection function, I would like it to loop connection.Open() a certain number of times before it throws the exception.   is this possible?

permission granted to user are insufficient for performing this operation - test connection

I (think) i migrated a 2000 reporting service database over to 2008. I say i think because i'm getting some weird behavior. I have a folder where i place all the datasources. On most of them, if i click manage, and then test connection, i get an error of:

The permissions granted to user <my login> are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)

I am listed as the system admin and system user under site settings, security. I tried changing it to just sys admin. That seems to have given me access to test at least some of the data sources.

I compared the security settings on the ones i can test vs the ones i cant, and they are the same. I have no problems running the reports attached to this datasource.

Is this a permission issue on the source database? Because i tried creating a new datasource to the same source db and got the same error. But wouldn't the test connection button use the credentials supplied if i have NOT selected the otion to use windows credentials? Although one of the databases that i CAN use the test connection button on, i do not have permission to connect to using my windows login.

So i really have no clue why i seem to be unable to 'test connection' on some of the datasources. Any suggestions?

Test Connection Failed because of an error initializing provider

I have a question as to why I cannot connect to my SQL Server.  I am no SQL man so please bare with me.  I was initially creating a sharepoint site and trying to configure a database but the Configuration Wizard would fail stating it could not find a user.  I was then informed I could created a .UDL file to attempt to test my connection.  That is where I am at.  I can see the SQL server, and when I use Windows NT Integrated security, my connection is successful.  When I use a specific user name or password, I cannot connect to it.  The only connection that is successful is the sa user.  Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I should check my permission levels?

I checked on my server roles and security roles on SQL and the account that is being used to create the sharepoint site is a securityadmin, dbcreator, public and sysadmin.

Surface Area configuration is allowed to have remote connections for TCP and Named Pipes.  I even ensured that DTC is allowed to have remote connections on both machines.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

php script using LDAP Test server

Can someone tell me if there is a place where I can have access to a .asp server for testing purposes only for logging in to testing LDAP??

Is this possible to test a script for logging on to a ASP server?  I would like to test username / Password for logging on to a ASP server.

I am crossing my fingers that such a server is available for testing a php script.

Thank you in advance for any help on this

VB Script to SQL connection error

I have a new Windows 2008 R2 64bit server running SQL 2008 R2.  I have an ASP web application using VB Script to connect to an SQL database.  I am receiving an error when the application tries to connect to the database.  The connection string is “conn.Open "DSN=SQLServ;Uid=******;password=******".  The error I am receiving is “Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'  [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified”.

The application was developed many years ago on a Windows 2003 server using SQL version 8.0 and has no problems connecting to the database.  We are moving the application to the new Windows server.

Set Connection of OLE DB Source component at run-time in a script

Is it possible to set the Connection property of an OLE DB Source component at run-time using a script task? The Connection Manager exists at design time but based on different development/production databases, I need to set which connection manager should be used for the OLE DB source at rum time. If possible, how do I accomplish this?

SQL Connection String

We can learn or know how can we connect the database from our .net. This will help for freshers or .NET beginners!

Rendering ASP.NET Script References into the Html Header

One thing that I've come to appreciate in control development in ASP.NET that use JavaScript is the ability to have more control over script and script include placement than ASP.NET provides natively. Specifically in ASP.NET you can use either the ClientScriptManager or ScriptManager to embed scripts and script references into pages via code.

Test your skill in SQL Server

You will be given a series of 10 SQL Server related questions that are randomly selected. Since the questions are randomly selected, you will receive a different set of questions each time you start a test. At the end of the last question, you will be given your score. You can then start a new test session if you like.

abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

ASP.NET provides a configuration system we can use to keep our applications flexible at runtime. In this article we will examine some tips and best practices for using the configuration system for the best results.

The element of a web.config file is a place to store connection strings, server names, file paths, and other miscellaneous settings needed by an application to perform work. The items inside appSettings are items that need to be configurable depending upon the environment, for instance, any database connection strings will change as you move your application from a testing and staging server into production.

Let's abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

*.axd script references not being rendered to browser

I'm running VS2010 with .net 4.0, and am running into issues with the .net ajax script tags mysteriously not being rendered to the browser.

So far I've reduced it to a scenario where I set the DataSourceID property of a databound control.  More specifically, I've only tested it on a Gridview and a DropDownList.

This can be reproduced fairly easily on my machine by following these steps:

1. Create a new empty Web Application Project

2. Create a new Web Form

3. Add a ScriptManager inside the form

4. Add a DropDownList and a DataSource (I used an ObjectDataSource)

5. Set the DataSourceID property of the DropDownList to the ID of the DataSource.  This can be done either declaratively on the .aspx page, or in the code behind in the aspx.cs page, and both produce the same results.

6. Open the page in a browser and watch as you get a javascript error stating "Sys is not defined" and notice that the page source contains no script tags referencing *.axd scripts.

Here's my source code showing my set up:

<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="ScriptResourceFAIL.Default" %>

Client script not running

Dear all,

in my MVC 2 application, and in the shared Master Page I wrote this little script for menu handling :

             $('ul', this).slideDown(100);
        function () {

The script, that shows menu items when the

connection string question from a newbie

when publishing  in the webmatrix dialogue it asks for "destination connection string" for my "database.mdf"

I was not sure what it was so I pasted this from my web.config file :

Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True

it all published ok, but wont run, so I guess it has somthing to do with this connection string or some kind of configuration issue.

My question is this, What should go in the field for "Destination connection string"
