Here Juval Lowy discusses the benefits you'll get when you implement transactions in your non-database applications, with a little help from volatile resource managers in the .NET Framework 2.0.

Why can't I load an an external resource dictionary that contains type converters?

Basically what I'm doing is putting a bunch of type converters as resources in a ResourceDictionary contained in an externally referenced assembly. Let's call the assembly WpfCommon. I'm directly referencing the assembly from my main application. In the App.xaml:       <Application.Resources>         <ResourceDictionary>             <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries>                 <ResourceDictionary Source="pack://application:,,,/Common.Wpf;component/Wpf/ResourceDictionaries/Converters/Converters.xaml"/>             </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries>         </ResourceDictionary>     </Application.Resources>   Converters.xaml:   <ResourceDictionary xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"     xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"     xmlns:Common_Wpf_Converters="clr-namespace:Common.Wpf.Converters">     <ResourceDictionary>         <Common_Wpf_Convert

resource type SQL Server & SQL Server Agent missing after setup

Hello,

after the SQL setup I noticed that the resource types "SQL Server" and "SQL Server Agent" were missing. (one node setup, 2nd node was joined later) Well I was able to manually create them but they won't start. The OS is Server2008 R2 and SQL is SQL 2008 - NON R2, yet.

The resource "SQL Server" is in a failed state (please find the error message right below)

(An error occurred while attempting to bring the resource 'SQL Server ('instanceName')' online.Error Code: 0x8007139a
The cluster resource could not be brought online by the resource monitor).

"SQL Server Agent" is offline due to its dependency, the resource "SQL Server".

I already tried to repair the installation,  compared the properties of the 2 resources with a a working SQL2k8 cluster but with no success.

Does anyone have any idea what I could try next?

Thank you in advance

Masl

Most Common SharePoint Extension Type

Hi,

I am considering several extension options to overcome some of the limitations of the built-in web services. I looked at custom web services, .wsp solution packages, and web parts. What is the most commonly used extension method by customers? since this will be used by other organizations I'd like to use the most common extension method. Are there other extension options that let me access all sharepoint objects from a remote machine?

Any recommendations/suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Tsvika

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:

Anyone have any idea why this may be or how to resolve it ?

Nested transactions, rollback causes error "Transaction count after EXECUTE indicates that a COMMIT

Hi,

I have a stored proc that does something that requires a transaction, and so I've put in the begin tran, commit, and rollback on error logic in it. That works as expected. But what if I now want to use the proc in the context of a larger transaction, such as calling it multiple times or doing other things as part of the same transaction? This seems impossible to achieve without either raising an error (throwing an exception) or having SQL Server do so on my behalf, rather unhelpfully.

For instance, I wanted to test a proc and reckoned a simple way to do so would be to start a transaction, execute the procedure, and roll back the transaction if the procedure didn't abort it:

begin transaction
exec someProc
if XACT_STATE() = 1 rollback

This works if someProc doesn't encounter any errors (so it begins and commits a transaction and the transaction count is 1 at entry and exit of the proc), but crashes and burns if the procedure rolls back the transaction, producing SQL error

Msg 266, Level 16, State 2, Procedure ExecuteImport, Line 0
Transaction count after EXECUTE indicates that a COMMIT or ROLLBACK TRANSACTION statement is missing. Previous count = 1, current count = 0.

I don't understand why that is. To my mind, it is perfectly normal that the transaction count can go from any level at entry to ze

Type or namespace error.

Printing resource files

Hello,

I have some resource files for localization and would like to print them. When I try to print them in Visual Studio (with File -> Print...) the button is disabled. Does anyone know how to print them? (Without copying each into word or excel)

Thanks and regards,

Bug: Does not change column type from nvarchar to ntext

Scenario: If you create a table with a column of type nvarchar, populate it with some content and try to modify it using the WebMatrix editor, from nvarchar to ntext, it does not display any error message or warning that this is not possible. It silently saves and reverts the change, back to nvarchar. Wasted some hours on this issue as I thought my column was ntext, but in fact was still nvarchar.

Expected behavior: It should change to ntext, or if SQL CE doesn't support that, it should notify the user that no change was applied.

The number of members in the conceptual type ... does not match with the number of members on the ob

 Hello,

I've added a scalar property to an entity and now ASP.NET Dynamic Data scaffolding throws this error:

The number of members in the conceptual type 'TrainingModel.Users' does not match with the number of members on the object side type 'TrainingModel.Users'. Make sure the number of members are the same.

This happens at the following line in global.asax:
model.RegisterContext(typeof(TrainingModel.TrainingEntities), new ContextConfiguration() { ScaffoldAllTables = true });

Please help!
Thanks
