Maintain RBS

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I'v installed RBS and it works well. After deleting a few files from SharePoint I find BLOBs are still in storage. I excute the command "Microsoft.Data.SqlRemoteBlobs.Maintainer.exe -ConnectionStringName RBSMaintainerConnection -Operation GarbageCollection ConsistencyCheck ConsistencyCheckForStores -GarbageCollectionPhases rdo -ConsistencyCheckMode r -TimeLimit 120" and I don't get error but a few warning " <RbsId> in RBS column is not available  in table <dbo.AllDocStremas>".  I check the RBS storage, the BLOBs are not be deleted.  Has anyone suggestion for this issue? Thanks!

Enabling Users to Maintain SharePoint Content

When SharePoint is installed as a corporate intranet, there is a considerable amount of effort involved in maintaining the content to keep the site relevant. As we discussed in the first few parts of this series, SharePoint has many built-in features to reduce the burden on the site administrator.

Some areas of the site usually contain less-dynamic information. Internal memos and corporate policies are common examples of this information. One option for this information is to post these documents in a document library. Documents in a library are often stored in a few different formats: Word, Acrobat (PDF), or HTML. Each of these formats has its drawbacks.

Maintain HTML Radio Button Selection Inside GridView After Postback

Long time ago I wrote an article about getting the value of the selected RadioButtons inside the GridView control. The code did not addresssed the postback issue which means that the selected radio button was cleared after the postback occurs.

How can I maintain "state" across WCF method calls?

I need to retrieve very large portions of NTFS files (as byte arrays) from a WCF Service.  The needed portions of the files are far too large to efficiently return in a single request, so I need a "chunky" implementation that will return just a portion of the file on each method call. But the entire process needs to be very fast... specifically: I need to avoid the overhead of re-opening the file each time the client requests the next "chunk". So how can I keep the filestream open on the service-side in anticipation of the next request from the client for the next chunk? And if no subsequent request arrives, then close the filestream? That is, implement "lazy close". Or stated another way: Does the code instantiated on the service-side to service an incoming method call remain "alive" after the method returns to the caller?  Or can it be configured that way, like a Singleton SAO behaves in Remoting?? Thanks, DT

Maintain Controls State on Master Page.

I have Web Application which uses the Logged In User (Authenticated User) to query his Profile Data from Adabas/Unix using OLEDB. The application provides the user with about 21 different pages (Basic Info, Employment Info, Education, Dependants, Financial Info ...). The web application has a master page, and each profile data page is based on a User Control loaded in the Child ASPX Page. Since we are migrating our legacy applications from Adabas/Unix to SAP, the development Team has prepared web services to query for the same Profile Data from SAP using Web Services. Now, we have to modify the web application to consume the web services instead of using OLEDB to query Adabas. Since we are in the testing phase, and we have only very limited data in SAP, I have to provide temporary control to allow test query the Staff Profile for a Specified User (instead of the Authenticated User) and to select the Source: 1. SAP, or 2. Adabas.   So I am thinking to add the following "Control Section" in the Master Page:<div runat="server" id="divSAPTest" class="SAPTest"> <span>Test SAP Web Services. Enter Staff ID: </span> <asp:TextBox ID="txtSAPStaffID" runat="server" Width="60px"></asp:TextBox> <span>From: </span> <asp:DropDo

(as the debugger shows that the row count is zero). i understand that in the page cycle the rows etc added the form by the date change event of the calender are not preserved. fine. but whats the solution. please help i have been searching for a solution desperately. the source --------      <asp:Calendar ID="Calendar1" runat="server"          >         <SelectedDayStyle BorderStyle="Dotted" BorderWidth="4px" />         <TodayDayStyle BorderStyle="Solid" BorderWidth="4px" HorizontalAlign="Center"

Using jQuery .hide() and .show() on panel sets doesn't maintain status through postback. Viewstate

I'm using jQuery against a set of three asp panels.  I set up an 'onChange' function for a dropdown list that dictates which panels to hide and show based on the UI selection. When the page first loads, one of the panels will be shown, the others will be hidden.  Let's say pnlOne is showing because the dropdown has option 1 selected.  This is done on the server with this:pnlOne.Style.Add("display","block");//and all the other panels are set to ".Style.Add("display","none");" based on logic. Then, the user selects a different value in the dropdown.  Let's say they select option number 2.  With javascript and jQuery I do this:$("#<%=pnlOne.ClientID %>").hide();$("#<%=pnlTwo.ClientID %>").hide();$("#<%=pnlThree.ClientID %>").hide();switch($("#<%= ddlOptionNumber.ClientID %> option:selected").text()){case "1":$("#<%= pnlOne.ClientID %>").show();break;case "2": etc.,}The issue is when the page posts back.  I'm running client side validation only at this point.  (Even if I add client side in the future I will still run client side as well to avoid security issues.)  When the validation functions detect an issue and the page returns to be displayed, the original panel (pnlOne)

Where to maintain state on server

Hi,I am developing a feature in my app where I need to store the state of a particular series of actions between 2 users, just like an ajax based chat service. Where do I store the state? How does Twitter maintain password field on postback?

I know that for security reasons, it's generally frowned upon to try and maintain a password field on a postback, but I'd still like to figure out a way to have it done. For example, Twitter. If you try to start a new account, and let's say the username you've chosen has already been taken, the page posts back with an error. But, with Twitter, the password field does not clear. How are they doing this?

I find it annoying in a situation like this, because if the username is already taken, that means you have to go back and fill in the password field too.

How does Twitter do this?...

How do I maintain relative paths and a navigation bar with master pages

Trying to integrate Expression Web project with Visual Studio .Net project, EW for design, VS for coding.

Master pages seem to be the approved model for 'consistent design' including nav bar etc., but a master

page in root with navbar containing relative path

eg: news/default.htm

when applied to a child page in

eg: register/login.aspx

generates a composite path:

result: a href:[siteroot]/register/news/default.htm

vs intended result:

intended: a href:[siteroot]/news/default.htm

Rather defeats the object of master pages, if we can't use them 'down' the site tree, and manually building xml sitenode maps and using or coding providers seems overkill, especially since 'consistent look and feel' (including navigation) is precisely what master pages are already supposed to provide.

~/ application roots don't seem to work either (yet I used them profusely previously in custom controls for precisely this function) with web sites located under a server virtual directory

Bad enough needing ExpressionWeb dwt + master pages for a single site, but can't imagine relying on master pages (at all) until we get this basic functionality resolved. Trying hard to like Expression Web and MasterPages, and to learn to do things 'the proper way', but all th

How Do I maintain the chronological order in which Asynchronous delegate calls are made?

I have created a basic logging framework for my application that writes log messages to a local text file using an Asynchronous delegate.

My application has many threads running however, and as a result, the order of the log entries in the text file is not chronological.

So I have two competing requirements: on one hand, my WriteToLog() method has to return almost immediately so that it doesn't block in-flight code, while at the same time the log file has to be in chronological order.

Any ideas?  Some of the problems I've encountered are:

1a.  Trying to use a Queue (with a lock{ } around it) to maintain the order seems to result in deadlocks

1b.  Even if I use a Queue, at some point the Queue must be written to disk, so it seems like I'd have to frequently have WriteToLog spin off a "WriteToDisk" like method.

2a.  I've considered instantiating a new thread which polls the Queue from (1a) and writes to disk in a loop, say, every 5 seconds.  I'm leaning more towards this method.

3.  I've looked into log4net and some other stuff but it just seems like overkill, and I'd really like to have my own framework for this seemingly simple task.

How to maintain a Unity container reference in WCF

I'm configuring validation application block from Enterprise Library 5 to use validation rules from the web.config file over a WCF call.

The problem is as new calls to the WCF service occur, validation application block is spending a considerable amount of time reading the validation configuration before validating. So my first call to the service which checks if a certain username is available to use (this method also does validation on the username before checking database) take a long time, but every call after that is pretty much instant. Then when I press F5 in my browser and try again, it takes a very long time to setup (read the config validation rules) again.

I read in the Developers guide to Ent Lib 5 that I should maintain a reference to the default Unity container that is setup and use this container to resolve the references. It suggests that I should use a custom extension to the InstanceContext to achieve this but does not give any examples.

How do I do this? Does anyone have examples? I am thinking holding onto a reference to the Unity container could solve the initial speed issues of hitting the service for the first time.

I should mention that I
