Missing Service Applications

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I recently had to reinstall sharepoint server, as well as create a new configuration database, due to my last one getting messed up. I added the content database from my old site, and it does come up, but I am missing all of my service applications. Only the security token service application and the application discovery and load balancer service application are there.  I still have my old bdc database, as well as my performancepoint one. Could I just connect to those when I create new service applications, or is there a powershell command I can use to restore all of them? I am not super worried about using my old ones, but I would like to. I just want those service applications to come back.

Service Applications missing from SharePoint Server 2010 Installation

Hi Guys,

I recently completed an in-place upgrade from WSS 3.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2010 to SharePoint Server 2010. While the first half of this migration process seems to have worked from WSS 3.0 to Foundation 2010 the upgrade from Foundation 2010 to Server 2010 has left the installation with only the Foundation level service applications.

If I go to add a new service application the only ones listed are the foundation service applications but if I go to check the current license it confirms the enterprise server edition is installed. I have re-ran the product configuration wizard and if I check the patch status in central administration it confirms that all the enterprise components are installed they just aren't showing up in the service applications listing!

Any ideas on how I can add these missing services to central administration?

Windows Service Applications Tutorials

You can easily create services by creating an application that is installed as a service. For example, suppose you want to monitor performance counter data and react to threshold values. You could write a Windows Service application that listens to the performance counter data, deploy the application, and begin collecting and analyzing data.

Invalid web service call, missing value for parameter: \u0027prefixo\u0027 (AutoCompleteExtender)

Good afternoon.

I'm trying to put an AutoCompleteExtender working, but i'm having an error, that i discovered with Fiddler, that is the reason that the autocomplete doesn't work:

Customizing pages with Asp.Net Dynamic Data Domain Service Web Applications?

Hola, It used to be so easy creating new folder under CustomPages with the (Entity/Table name) and copying on it all base default PageTemplates (Details, Insert, Edit, List and ListDetails) and you will get access to those pages only for the specific table (this was the default automatic behavior of the Dynamic Data framework) When it comes to be using Asp.Net Dynamic Data Domain Service Web Applications it seems that we need to learn a new way of doing this because it is just simply different and you got a lot of errors when compiling your application if you do this the old way? What might be the new way, uh? HOW DO WE DO THIS NOW ... I MEAN ... CREATING DEFAULT CUSTOM PAGES FOR SPECIFIC TABLES (Details, Insert, Edit, List and ListDetails) with Asp.Net Dynamic Data Domain Service Web Applications? The problem arises when the definition for your newly created classes is absent from the automatically generated code when you created your domain service !!!!! . If you simply copy the PageTemplates as they are, you got a duplicated error message because the new .designer file (automatically generated) conains the definition of the class you are copying (not the newer one) so even if you rename your .aspx file the result is not what you would normally expect (the .designer class is not regenerated after renaming). The .designer file keeps the domain service definition and if y

Service Applications not showing in services on server on 2nd server

I have installed a new sharepoint farm. I have added to the sharepoint farm a 2nd server. Everything is working fine for browsing sites via the NLB address. I have created some new service applications - including search and managed meta data.  These work fine on the first server.  They do not appear under services on service in central admin for the 2nd server and therefore cannot be started on that server.  I have also notices that the associated web services do not exist under the web services iis website on the 2nd server. Can anyone provide any guidance as to why the service applications and web services are not available upon the 2nd server? Thanks

Cannot INSERT record using Asp.Net Dynamic Data Domain Service Web Applications

Hi, I am working on a 'Asp.Net Dynamic Data Domain Service Web Application' project using just 2 tables, FAQ_Categories and FAQs. The FAQs table has a foreign key to the FAQ_Categories. The steps are straight forward. Add a new project (Asp.Net Dynamic Data Domain Service Web Applications) Add folders Model ( for Linq2Sql datacontext), Domain (for the Domain Services class) Add Linq2Slql and add the 2 tables to the designer. Build the project. Add the Domain Service Class to the Domain folder. in the wizard select the DataContext, uncheck the Enable Client & Expose ODate checkbox Check bothe table & their corresponding Enable Editing tables checbox Check the Generate Metadata class Click OK. In Global.asax set Scaffold to true and add the DomainService name. Build and run.   Pages List and Detail are working fine. But if I try to insert a new record, I get the error "FaqId is required" Faq_ID is the primary key in the database table and it is set to Identiy. The Datacontext is correct, it marked the FAQ table with <Global.System.Data.Linq.Mapping.ColumnAttribute(Storage:="_CustomerId", AutoSync:=AutoSync.OnInsert, DbType:="Int NOT NULL IDENTITY", IsPrimaryKey:=true, IsDbGenerated:=true)> _   I tried this using Linq2Sql, Entity Framework, And both in VB and C# with the same result. I am using VS20

Search Service Application missing in SharePoint 2010

I installed SharePoint 2010 (Enterprise edition), enabled Enterprise features but it is missing Search Service Application when I look under Central Administration > Application Management > Manage Service Application.   When I click on New it doesn't even list "Search Service Application".    When I goto Upgrade and Patch Management > Check Product and Patch Installation Status, it tells me that "Microsoft Search Server 2010 Core" was Installed.  Under Manage services of server, "Sharepoint Foundation Search" is started.  Does anyone have an idea why the "Search Service Application" is missing and how can I install it?

SP2010- Creating an Index server which will host all the Service applications

Guys, Current Environment : 1 Sql server 2008 R2 and 1 SharePoint 2010 Server OS : windows server 2008 all 64 bit (goes without saynig) For better performance i want to seperate out Service application ( expecially Search Service application) to another windows server while keeping the existing one as a WFE hosting CA as well. From the little documentation i found i am creating an Index server(with out CA on it) 2 questions here : 1. Is this the best way to optimize my farm? 2. Is there any online documentation or any knd of link that woudl describe how to set up the index server. thanks in advance. How to get all Secure Store Service (SSS) applications in the farm

Hello everyone, I am trying to use SharePoint 2010 Secure Store Service (next SSS) in my application to get credentials to external system. Is there any way to get all possible applications (IDs) from API provided. Currently I am using next code to get all applications: SecureStoreProvider provider = SecureStoreProviderFactory.Create() as SecureStoreProvider;             provider.Context = SPServiceContext.GetContext(SPServiceApplicationProxyGroup.Default, SPSiteSubscriptionIdentifier.Default);             if (provider != null)             {                 foreach (var app in provider.GetTargetApplications())                 {                     Console.WriteLine(app.Name);                 }             } However it depends on SPServiceApplicationProxyGroup.Default and SPSiteSubscriptionIdentifier.Default parameters. So in case I remove SSS from

Cluster service takes 1 hour to bring service and applications online

We had a 1 hour outage with our production SQL cluster recently and I have been trawling through the Event Logs to try and find an explanation.  I know that a network failure actually triggered the outage, during a switch upgrade no network was available and so the cluster shut down:

"This cluster node has no network connectivity. It cannot participate in the cluster until connectivity is restored. "

There are lots of enties telling me that the cluster service is stopping and one saying that DTC is terminating unexpectedly which is fine, but then I see a log enty:

"The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur"

This is worrying - how can I be sure that my data is not corrupted?

I can see the SQL Server and SQL Server Agent services '"terminate unexpectedly" and shortly after that I can see the cluster service entering the running state and various attempts to bring clustered applications online.  These attempts give the following messsage:

"The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'SQL Server (INSTANCENAME)' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application."

Does this mean that the cluster service does no

Sharepoint 2010 Missing Managed Metadata Service

According to the following MS article, the Tags feature is linked to the Managed Metadata Service, which is required to use Tags. For some reason I cannot find this feature as described in the article where it specified Managed Metadata Service is located in the Application Management section. What should I check to make sure this feature/service can be enabled?

Multiple User Profiles Service Applications

We are trying to split our MySite users into two different groups due to their physical location. First group will be at Location A and their profiles will be in their local SQL box, second group will be at Location B and their profiles will be in their local SQL box. Two locations are connected by a VPN tunnel.

So we created two MySite hosts, Audience groups, and added Trusted Host Locations. Then we realized that on top of existing User Profile Service Application A (used for Location A) we needed another User Profile Service Application B for a second location (Location B). After creating second User Profile Service Application we went to Configure Synchronization Connections but everytime we clicked on Create New Connection we got the following error:

"Cannot navigate to the requested page because User Profile Synchronization service is not running. Please start the User Profile Synchronization service before creating a connection."

But if we try to add connection to the the existing User Profile Service Application A it works fine. We triple checked that service in question is running. We did notice that User Profile Service Application A is running Profile Synchronization Instance on

Sharepoint Service Applications question, architecture

I read an article in documentation:

When for example u want to use service applications you need to connect your service
applications to the WFE’s. This is done using a proxy (don’t think WCF/ASMX proxy… think of it
in the more generic term for now (as compared to 2007)).

I donnt exactly undestand this - so what is this proxy and what is communication Protocol between WFE and the application server?

Second question is if it is truth, then if there are two farms or more then could you search content through all of them using one Search Service Application? And would it be enough to have ONE search server in total and on the other farm there would be only some proxy to search sevice?

C# reading Java/Php/SOAP service, WSDL generated file missing some namespace information

I'm trying to use a Web Service, which I believe is Java/php/SOAP, using C#.
I can connect and send fine, but the results, which are an array of information,
is null. The return is not instant, and I can get back errors.
I believe the problem is in the WSDL translation. The actual response coming back
does not line up with the WSDL generated code in reguards to namespaces. In
perticular, 'getCategoryTreeResponse' & 'getCategoryTreeResult' do not show up
in the generated file.
I'm quite sure the WSDL file provided is poorly written but I have no control
over it. WSDL.exe only works when I pass a saved copy of the web service's
provided WSDL information due to the way it is called.
